François Nars Answers your Questions

How do I wear a bold lip? What’s the must-have NARS nail color for the season? Get your burning beauty questions answered, and meet the legendary makeup artist, François Nars when he appears in store during his new book tour for Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself. Can’t be there in person? Ask your questions in the comments below by April 25, and we’ll share his answers in a follow-up post on May 5.

Nars’ eponymous line is known for its vibrant colors and rich textures—perfect for a chic, sophisticated woman with a taste for a bit of adventure. In his new book, Nars proves how makeup can go a long way by photographing stunning transformations of real women and men of various ages and ethnicities. More than simple text and beauty shots, the book demonstrates the actual makeup application by including “before” images overlaid with clear acetate “after” diagrams.

The book, along with Nordstrom-exclusive Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself Makeup Sets, will be available in May.

Meet François Nars at Nordstrom Topanga on Saturday, May 14 or at Nordstrom Michigan Avenue on May 21, or ask your questions below! Also, watch for more of Nars’ exclusive tips on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

I love your makeup! The Parrot Green Eyeliner in Celebrate is beautiful! I also love your concept of lipstick in the form of a crayon. What was your inspiration behind these products? BTW, Red square is THE red lipstick that I use now. After 15 years of searching for a red lipstick, this is my shade.

I need help with blending eyeshadow so I can create a subtly shaded look (for day or night) without looking like I let a 3-year-old help me.

Are there certain brush techniques and tools I need to use to achieve a perfectly blended eyeshadow look?

And is there a rule for layering light (like a highlighting shadow) and dark (the color that gives your eye more drama) shadows so you don’t go overboard? Obviously, I need a lot of help. ;-)

Thanks!
