I love pairing Talk That Talk Lipstick, a dark plum retro matte, with sparkly cocoa browns for the eyes, like the shades featured in the Her Cocoa Eyeshadow Quad.

Complete the look with these M·A·C products:
Eye Kohl in ‘Teddy’
Lip Pencil in ‘Nightmoth’

Cool in color, RiRi Woo Lipstick is a super-wearable red matte and looks incredible on everyone. Rock it with a flick of Liquidlast Liner in ‘Point Black’ on the eyes. Finish the look with a tomboy bushy brow, using Veluxe Brow Liner and Brow Set, and you’re ready to demand attention.

Channel your inner icon and dare to go dramatic with a cobalt-blue satin eye. Why not flip that matte red lip for a shine by layering RiRi Woo Lipglass? After all, one of the impressive things about Rihanna is her ability to change her look in an instant—and own it every time.

Complete the look with these M·A·C products:
Eyeshadow in ‘Electric Eel’
Eyeshadow in ‘Plumage’

Now’s your chance, shine bright.

Chantecaille’s gorgeous new Wild Horses Palette includes three eyeshadows and one blush in perfectly on-trend colors for fall—plus a world-changing bonus: a percentage of all palette proceeds will be donated to The Humane Society to support its mission to help wild horses run free in America. We spoke with Chantecaille Creative Director and spokesmodel Olivia Chantecaille to learn more about her family’s efforts to make a difference through the company.

BEAUTY BLOG: Olivia, tell us why you support this particular cause.
OLIVIA CHANTECAILLE: There’s an urgent need to help our country’s wild horses roam freely. Embodying the spirit of freedom, wild horses have graced the American landscape for centuries, reminding us of our deepest connection to the earth. Sadly, in just the past 40 years over 22 million acres of wild horse habitat has been lost in the U.S. To make room for cattle, gas and oil production, the government has been systematically placing wild herds into captivity, which costs taxpayers upwards of $78 million per year. By conserving our public land for our wild horses, we not only help save the herds, but we also ensure that the land will be preserved for future generations.

How does The Wild Horses Palette reflect the cause it supports?
The palette reflects not only the colors of the wild horses, but those of the magnificent landscape they live in. It’s a striking yet neutral palette that perfectly complements the trending colors in this fall’s fashion—warm earthy browns, rich neutrals, grounding black, camel and pops of red.

Beauty and heart: Olivia Chantecaille models The Wild Horses Palette.

This isn’t the first time you’ve created a palette inspired by a cause [last spring the company released its Save the Sharks Palette; in years past it has created palettes to benefit endangered tigers and elephants in Africa].
Yes, we have always sought to raise awareness for environmental causes that are most urgent and require immediate attention. This is an integral part of our brand and our way to give back to nature. Each season we launch a ‛cause-metics’ collection, and are particularly passionate about our commitment to the oceans and endangered species.

Of all your recent charitable efforts, which cause has held the most significance for you and your family?
It is impossible to choose one cause over another. Each one is vital in its own right, and when you look at the larger picture you realize that everything is connected. There is one unifying message that comes from all of these causes: We need to respect Nature and be aware of the negative influence we play.

Are there skincare or other makeup products that work best with the Wild Horses look?
Our new Le Stylo Ultra Slim Liquid Eyeliner and the new lash-defining Supreme Cils Mascara really highlight and complement the neutral shades of the eyeshadow palette. On lips, Persimmon Hydra Chic Lipstick is a bold tomato red with a flattering burst of orange that is the perfect modern take on a classic red lip. Complete the look with Future Skin Foundation and a spritz of our Pure Rosewater.

Our Global Fashion Trend Reporter, Crystal Nicodemus, took a break from her street style coverage on The Thread to take us backstage at Topshop Unique.

Topshop Unique is one of London Fashion Week’s most coveted tickets, so it was a dream to be granted access to the backstage area. Witnessing the behind-the-scenes mayhem of a huge fashion show was a privilege, even if it was totally overwhelming!

There were a million photographers, models and stylists running around, and the vibe was chaotic and exciting. Then Jourdan Dunn and Cara Delevingne jumped into the mix and the scene got even crazier! Watching the talented stylists prep all the models and seeing what goes into the making of a runway show gave me a new appreciation of Fashion Week.

I had a blast backstage, and I hope you all enjoy this little glimpse into the inner workings of one of London’s biggest shows!

xo,
Crystal

Face: Topshop Bronzer was used to create a nice summer tan + a pop of Blush in the center of the cheek. The face was kept simple, as the look was all about the eye….

Eye: Metallic Eye Pencil in Pocket Money (spring ‘14) was applied in the inner corner—we love this inner-eye shimmer that we’ve been seeing for spring! Next, apply Grunge Stick in Unkempt (Spring ‘14) over Kohl Pencil around the eyes.

Then apply brown shadow (try Topshop Eye Duo in Woodland Walk) with a clear gloss across the lid, and top it off with Volume Lash Mascara.

Lip: With the emphasis on the eye, the lips were kept nude—try Topshop Lipstick in Nevada or Lip Bullet in There She Goes.

Nails: Metallic Nail Polish in Heart of Gold with Glitter Nail Polish in Ice Crush on top.

Our beauty trend editor, Kate Fannin, dishes on all her favorite spring looks and trends from New York Fashion Week last week.

Armed with sunscreen, my trusty iPhone, an old-school notepad and my favorite lip gloss, I survived the backstage madness at NYFW (and even a few shows). I couldn’t be more excited about spring, and it helped that New York’s weather was indeed very spring-like. Our national beauty director Debra Redmond and I saw new products, techniques and tips and, best of all, we have since developed our take on the newest beauty trends to watch for in spring 2014. Here they are!

A White-Hot Season

Jouer for kate spade new york Spring 2014

From matte nails and eyeliner to inner-corner shimmer on the eyes (which I’ve already acronym-ed as “ICS,” I’m so excited about it), get ready for a clean slate. Gone are the days of putting Liquid Paper on your nails; this new white is soft and beautiful and completely wearable, I promise! There’s no question about it: White is making a statement.

Shop the look with these products:
-Dior Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in White: This kohl pencil is formulated with a super-smooth texture to dramatize the eye and highlight the color of the iris. Its easy-glide formula allows for maximum comfort and outstanding staying power, while its integrated sharpener makes it a practical beauty essential. Beauty tip: Apply along the inside of the lid for greatest intensity.

ICS for Prabal Gurung Spring 2014

-M·A·C Eyeshadow in Crystal Avalanche: Vibrantly toned. Velvety soft. Shimmeringly metallic. Veluxe eyeshadow, overlaid with high-shine pearl.

butter LONDON nails for Band of Outsiders Spring 2014

-Ciaté ‘LA Confidential’ Paint Pot: A natural, off-white crème to complement any skin tone.

Texture Mix

NARS for Carmen Marc Valvo Spring 2014

The spring skin buzzword was “demi-matte” or “neo-matte.” Translation: a beautiful, luminous face that appears creamy and natural. More than one artist described this lit-from within healthy glow as looking as though someone drank 20 glasses of water a day. Skin wasn’t matte, and it wasn’t glossy—just gorgeously radiant!

Shop the look with these products:
-Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Eye Serum: This product contains hyaluronic acid and antioxidants that help attract and retain moisture and immediately illuminate skin tone and complexion.
-Laura Mercier ‘Spellbound’ Face Illuminator: Apply directly to the top of the cheekbone, sweeping up and around the brow to give just the right amount of radiance. Be careful to not overuse by applying all over; the intent is to offer a radiant highlight, not to add all-over shimmer to the face.

Lancôme for Jason Wu Spring 2014

-YSL Rouge Volupté Sheer Candy Glossy Lip Balm: This is like a sheer veil of color with ultra-light texture, and it keeps lips hydrated for up to eight hours.

butter LONDON for Milly Spring 2014

-butter LONDON Matte Finish Shine Free Topcoat: Matte Finish has become the talk of the season! Create a new look for every lacquer by using this shine-free topcoat. Turns any color matte, flat and utterly beautiful.

Orange Influence

Kevyn Aucoin for Clover Canyon Spring 2014

From bright tangerine and bold tomato to sun-ripened peach and soft coral: lips, cheeks and even eyelids sported this juicy hue.  Whether it was just a pop of color in one place or swept in a softer way across the face, orange tones give spring beauty a major dose of vitamin C!

Shop the looks with these products:
-stila Convertible Color Lip & Cheek in Gerbera: stila’s ingenious lipstick and blush prove irresistible—this versatile favorite brightens cheeks and lips with creamy, translucent color. Tap the sheer tint onto cheeks for a natural glow and press onto lips for fresh, radiant color. The two-in-one compact holds the key to easy, monochromatic makeup.

Golden Spice

M·A·C for Monique Lhuillier Spring 2014

With a slight nod to the ’70s (think earthy suede, not glam-rock disco), spicy colors like cinnamon and nutmeg were a fresh take on brown for eyelids and even lips. But the Midas touch was also evident in gold lids, ranging from glitter (somehow overt yet gorgeous and wearable) to soft metallic dusting.

-NARS Lipstick in Heat Wave

Lancôme for Jason Wu Spring 2014

-Estée Lauder Pure Color Gelée Powder Eyeshadow
-Smashbox Waterproof Eyeshadow Liner in Metallic Marble

-Lancôme Artliner-24 Hour Precision Point Eyeliner in Gold
-Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani Lipstick in #201 with a touch of Guerlain Maxi Shine – Gloss d’Enfer Lip Gloss in No. 400 Gold Tchlack

Blue Streak

Shiseido for MARC BY MARC JACOBS Spring 2014

It’s the Pantone color of the season, and it started to emerge in the form of ethereal, watery blue on nails (softened by a thin top coat of shimmer pink = gorgeous!), and bold, statement-making eye shadows. With a range of light to intense, everyone can play in this pool.

Jason Wu Jets In for Lancôme

heroJason Wu should be exhausted. After weathering the whirlwind of New York’s Spring 2014 Fashion Week (where his latest runway looks garnered love and air kisses from the fashion press), Jason flew into Seattle yesterday to celebrate the launch of his new, exclusive-to-Nordstrom makeup collection for Lancôme. Inside our flagship store, we caught five minutes with the design star—who looked cool, collected and anything but jet-lagged.

BEAUTY BLOG: Jason, you’ve just finished the Olympics of fashion on one coast, and now you’re on the opposite coast to talk beauty. How are you still standing?
JASON WU: (laughs) I’m used to it—doing all these personal appearances is like a sport. I’m already starting to train for my next collection! It’s all good; I felt great about how well received my spring collection was, and how my creative vision came through.

I’m also so excited about doing makeup now—it’s been something I’ve always wanted to create. I’m known for making sophisticated, feminine clothes and part of the whole look has to be the beauty aspect. Color is something that has always been important to my work and part of my design process (I always start with the colors), so translating that kind of vision into makeup palettes, from eye shadows to lipsticks to nail polish to mascara, was organic and came naturally to me.

Why Lancôme?
Lancôme was just the right match for me because their product is beautiful and sophisticated and their brand has really rich history and is very luxurious. I couldn’t think of anyone better to collaborate with, actually! This collection is so versatile and glamorous—I love the idea that you can transform yourself through a little bit of makeup.

Your birthday is coming up—any plans?
I’m going to be in Europe, which will be really fun, but no plans yet. I’m just trying to get through the next few weeks!

Happy Birthday, Jason!
