Stylist Spotlight: Stacey Schannon

HERO

This month, we’re shining a light on Stacey Schannon, one of our original Beauty Stylists hailing from Nordstrom Horton Plaza in San Diego. She’s giving us the lowdown on everything from her favorite 2014 trends to her top five must-have beauty products.

Helping out my client Devra before her holiday party.

How long have you been a beauty stylist, and what are your specialties?
Stacey Schannon: I started working in cosmetics in June of 2003 with stila. Since then, I have also worked for Caudalíe, Becca, Trish McEvoy, philosophy, M·A·C and Bobbi Brown. I have been a Beauty Stylist since the program launched in 2010. I love my position because I have the beauty world at my fingertips! I also love teaching makeup lessons and doing beauty makeup.

What are your favorite products from 2013?
Stacey: CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Shadows are a favorite, because they are a really classy way to add some glitz to your evening look without going overboard with glitter.

As someone who is on her feet all day, I am obsessed with my CLARISONIC Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation Kit. My feet have never felt softer, and paired with any butter London nail polish and Deborah Lippmann Gel Lab, they are always sandal-ready!

Any products and/or trends that you’re looking forward to in 2014?
Stacey: All the nectarine and nude colors launching in January. Now that the holiday parties are over, I am looking forward to retiring my darker colors and lightening up my look with glowing skin and peach tones!

Before & After: My client Ana’s holiday party look.

What are your beauty resolutions for the new year?
Stacey: Just like food in your fridge has an expiration date, so does your makeup. I plan on cleaning out my makeup bag and discarding any foundations or moisturizers that I have had for over a year, sharpening my lip and eye pencils and opening a new tube of mascara.

Any tips for keeping skin healthy and radiant during the winter months?
Stacey: Use your CLARISONIC daily to cleanse your skin. Imagine that you’ve brushed your teeth every day with your finger and one day someone gives you a toothbrush. Your teeth will feel super clean and slippery, right? The same scenario is true for your face: It, too, is not a flat surface and cleaning with your favorite cleanser and your CLARISONIC will ensure that you are removing all your makeup and any dirt and oil that settles in your pores.

Invest in philosophy’s microdelivery peel and you’ll not only exfoliate but also deliver vitamin C and peptides to the skin, resulting in a more radiant complexion. This once-a-week, two-step lunchtime peel takes less than 5 minutes, and your skin will thank you afterward. Follow all cleansing rituals with a moisturizer—even if you are oily!

Any favorite beauty secrets that every woman should know?
Stacey: When doing your eye makeup, always use a shadow base from lash line to the brow (my favorites are M·A·C Pro Longwear Paint Pots and Laura Mercier Eye Basics). This will act kind of like Velcro for anything you put over it. Start applying a white or off-white shadow under the brows and work down, applying a skin-tone matte shade in the crease next and finally your lid color. You will do less blending and your color will pop more!

When choosing a blush, the key is to find a shade that matches your natural lip color. Apply your color two fingers back from your nose to keep the center of your face illuminated.

What are your 5 must-haves?
1. A good concealer that neutralizes any darkness under the eyes: I use Bobbi Brown’s Corrector and Concealer to eliminate my dark circles.
2. Mascara that doesn’t run or flake: I love Trish McEvoy’s High Volume Mascara.
3. Sun protection: Even when you don’t think you are in the sun, the sun’s rays have a sneaky way of finding you! Shiseido’s Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector is a lightweight option.
4. A moisturizing lip treatment: Try La Mer’s The Lip Balm to repair and rejuvenate seriously dry lips.
5. A cleanser with a built-in makeup remover: I swear by philosophy’s purity. When used in conjunction with my CLARISONIC, I know my skin is squeaky clean!

Recently, on a work trip to San Diego, I had some time to spare and found myself exploring the beauty department at Nordstrom. I had an awards ceremony to attend that night and had toyed with the idea of getting my makeup done. I am usually hesistant to having my makeup done because of so many nightmare experiences in the past. However, I came upon Stacey working on another client and saw what a beautiful job she had done. I decided to give it a go and am so glad I did! Stacey’s work was PHENOMENAL. She listened to what I said and translated it into a beautiful, glowing evening look. My favorite product that she introduced me to is my new Vincent Longo foundation. Stacey, you are a rockstar!!!

Thank you for the excellent advice. My current cleansing and exfoliation routine hasn’t been working as well, and I’ve purchased the Clarisonic and philosophy items you mentioned. I’m looking forward to clearer, smoother skin.
