Yves Saint Laurent’s new ‘Volume Effet Faux Cils’ Baby Doll Mascara may be girly, but there’s nothing ‘little’ about it. On one side, thick, spaced bristles coat lashes and create volume; on the other, fine, close bristles hit even the tiniest lashes to create a lush fringe. The effect: a wide-open look that’s seductive and stunning. To promote the mascara’s launch, the brand created this video starring model, actress and all-around It Girl Cara Delevingne.

Naughty and nice: The mascara comes in four playfully named shades: Fetish Black, Indiscreet Purple, Audacious Blue and Wheedler Brown.

Close-Up and Personal: Kristin and Smashbox Pro Lead Artist Lori Taylor backstage at the shoot

Prime-Time Players: Vloggers Andrea Brooks, Kandee Johnson, Camila Coehlo and P’Trique

In “KRISTIN PRIMES FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME,” the singer and actress teams up with Internet sensation P’Trique (hilarious star of YouTube’s “Sh*t Fashion Girls Say” series) for this promo on primers. Joining them are top beauty and fashion vloggers Kandee Johnson, Andrea Brooks of Andrea’s Choice and Camila Coelho of MakeupbyCamila, whose takes and tutorials gather millions of views every month. The video, which will be hosted on YouTube channel The Platform, goes live Monday, July 8.

On set for the shoot last month, Kristin took five to give us the who/what/why scoop on the video. We were thrilled to hear her famous Oklahoma twang over the phone—and were secretly hoping she’d break out in a rousing number from Wicked (Kristin originated the role of Glinda the Good Witch on Broadway).

BEAUTY 24/7: Why a makeup video?
KRISTIN CHENOWETH: Honey, I’m a girlie-girl—I’ve got beauty in my soul. All I need is friends, faith and a little primer!

Why primer, specifically?
KRISTIN: I have always loved Smashbox’s primers—their Luminizing Primer is my fave. It really does make a difference, and now that I’m in my early 40s, I can use a little extra help. My face just looks smoother and feels better when I’m wearing it—honestly, I never want to take it off! I’d wear it to bed if I could…then I’d wake up with my perfect face on already.

What about women in their 20s and 30s?
KRISTIN: Smashbox primers are made for women of all ages. Even if you’re younger, you can still get great benefits like sunscreen or oil control from a primer. Bottom line, primer helps your makeup stay on—who wants to keep redoing it all the time? Everyone should use it; it’s the best.

Last question: Do you ever spontaneously burst into song, like in one of your Glee episodes? (Hint, hint.)
All the time—in my head! (Dang.)

Check back with us on July 8, when we’ll present “KRISTIN PRIMES FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME”—for the very first time! In the mean time, you can shop our complete selection of Smashbox primers.
