The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the most fishnet-filled, glittery rock musical to emerge from the 1970s. Obviously, I love it. My hometown movie drive-in holds a midnight Rocky Horror showing each August, where fans grab some toast and umbrellas and lie in their trunks to watch the movie.
It is absolutely necessary to dress up for a Rocky Horror event, revealing your inner glam-rock queen. For the movie, I pulled on ripped tights, a rhinestone-embellished blazer and a long, black slip—with red lipstick on, of course.
My costume was mild in comparison to my fellow Rocky viewers. The girls who worked concessions looked awesome!
Because everyone goes all out, Rocky Horror creates this strange and beautiful community of misfits. We’re very proud of the movie’s success, like the fun aunt crying at her favorite nephew’s graduation.
Going ’70s or ’80s glam is so fun and expressive. Bright makeup and glitter, big hair and high heels, it’s a blast! If you feel like adding a touch of glam to your life, I suggest what I like to call Stardust Nails. Paint a clear layer of nail polish on your nails, and then dip them in loose glitter. You can buy glitter nail polish, but I think loose glitter creates an edgier look.
You may not be heading to The Rocky Horror Picture Show anytime soon, but you can still add a little glam to your everyday look and feel like dancing the Time Warp all day long.
