BP. Pick of the Week: Destroyed Boyfriend Jeans Fri, 29 May 2015 19:15:08 +0000 With summer just around the corner, we can’t wait to lounge around in casual-chic style. We love these destroyed boyfriend jeans for just that reason—they’re ultra-casual and totally trendy.

destroyed boyfriend jeans | $52

Why we love them:

The dramatic destruction. As you can see, these jeans are completely torn up. We love how relaxed the look is, plus you get to show off extra summery skin.

The white denim. The clean white of the denim nicely balances the rugged destroyed details. It achieves that cool, artsy look without overdoing it.

The boyfriend fit. The always-chic borrowed-from-the-boys look is alive and well, and these jeans are no exception. The slouchy fit contributes to that casual style we know you’ll wear all summer long.

OOTD: Tea Bar with Clare Fri, 29 May 2015 17:00:15 +0000

This weekend Clare, Will and I went to our local tea shop to catch up. The three of us have very busy lives, and as graduation approaches the opportunities for us to spend time together are limited. With the help of Will’s amazing camera work, I got a great OOTD pic of myself and Clare.

I hope everyone’s finishing the year strong and getting excited for summer like I am.

My Art Portfolio Thu, 28 May 2015 17:00:00 +0000 Hey, y’all! School is finally coming to an end, Advanced Placement (AP) exams are over and I can almost taste summer. One AP class I took this year was Studio Art. Art has always held a place in my heart and I’d love to share that part of myself with you lovelies.

This art class gave me complete and total freedom, and really allowed me to explore more as an artist. I’m not sure how Studio Art classes work at your school, but if you’re also passionate about art, I definitely recommend taking the AP class.

Here’s a glimpse of my 2D portfolio—GIF style!

If any of you have a blog or tumblr or Instagram account where you post your art, comment below! I’d love to check it out. :)

Things to Do This Summer: Part 1 Wed, 27 May 2015 20:43:40 +0000

Hey, guys! So summer is upon us, and although it’s amazing to not have school for a whole three months, let’s face it: summer can get boring. For a busy bee like me, having nothing to do and very few commitments just isn’t my thing. That’s why I’ll be showing you some stuff to do when you’re bored this summer!

Having a day…actually, many days…where you lay out by the pool and relax is always a must. But, of course, you have to have some supes adorable pool toys while doing it, right?

My bestie, Sam, and I couldn’t get enough of this donut floatie. It looked seriously good enough to eat, haha!

And here is Sam, happy as can be, on a giant floating pretzel. I think we can all agree that anything food related is instantly 10 times better.

Nothing beats the feeling of a nice, cold pool on a hot day. Just remember to apply sunscreen—ALWAYS—especially if you think you might doze of while adrift in the pool. Hey, better safe than sorry.

Stay tuned for more ideas of what to do when you’re bored!

Yours truly,

OOTD: Girly/Sporty Tue, 26 May 2015 17:00:46 +0000

I love mixing girly pieces with sneakers. Here I took a flowy tank that has slits up the sides and tucked it in to show off the ruffle detail on the sides of my shorts. To add that sporty factor I like so much, I finished the look with my Nike Roshes.

Top 5 Favorite New Swimsuits Mon, 25 May 2015 17:00:52 +0000

Happy Memorial Day! This holiday weekend means that summer break is ridiculously close—what better way to get into the summer spirit than by swimsuit shopping? If you’re heading to any beautiful beaches this summer, or planning on hitting the pool, one thing’s for sure: You need a new swimsuit.

Here are five of my favorite swim pieces out right now:

1. I’m usually shy about prints. I almost always stick with solid colors. But for some reason, I was attracted to this subtle tie-dye print and actually fell in love with the mandala print on the reverse side. Did I mention that it’s reversible? Win. Win.

Reversible Print Bikini Top

2. And now for the solid colors. How cute is this bright pink bikini? It’s simple with little details like that tiny cut-out on the back, and it comes in two more pretty summer colors if pink ain’t ya thing.

Solid Bikini Top

3. I love everything about this top. The higher neck and cropped style is different than your average triangle bikini top, and the criss-cross strap at the back is pretty cute, too. And that baby turquoise color just screams summer.

Crop Bikini Top

4. Scallop detailing and a crazycool orange hue? Yes, please.

Scalloped One Piece

5. This last bikini top is nothing crazy, but it just happens to be my favorite. That’s probably because it’s black. I think every girl needs a simple black top to mix and match with printed or plain bottoms. Also, the wrap style adds an athletic-inspired touch.

Now, let’s hear it: Which style is your favorite?

Friday Dance Party Fri, 22 May 2015 21:53:03 +0000 Happy Friday! We half-heartedly poked around on YouTube to find anything cooler and more interesting than the new T-Swift/Kendrick Lamar video, but it was a total waste of time.

Why fight the obvious? You can’t beat supermodel assassins. Don’t even try.

OOTD: Transitional Style Fri, 22 May 2015 17:00:37 +0000

Spring weather in Portland is very iffy. It can be sunny for days, then start to rain for days on end. Since the weather isn’t very reliable, it’s a good idea be ready for anything. I paired jeans with a flowy tank top for warm afternoons, then threw on an oversized cardigan in case of damp and chill.

OOTD: Study Day Thu, 21 May 2015 17:00:19 +0000

Ugh. That’s really all I have to say to express my feelings this month. I have officially diagnosed myself with “junioritis.” I’m already planning my summer, but first I have to battle the SAT, ACT, AP exams and finals… So, yeah: ugh.

When it comes to long hours of studying, coffee definitely becomes first priority, and outfit decisions are the least of our worries. To stay comfy and simple during our last months of testing, here’s a super-easy study day OOTD!

I rarely ever wear leggings, but today I gave in and went with comfort. I kept it very simple in a purple tank with a kimono-style sweater on top.

Crochet sneakers and a messy ponytail finish off this relaxed look.

Study on, friends! Trust me, I know it’s hard to stay motivated, but just remember the hard work will pay off in the end. :)

Last-Minute Prom-spiration Wed, 20 May 2015 17:00:08 +0000

Hello, hello everyone! Prom season is here and while some of you have your prom looks all locked down, some of you might be scrambling for a little last-minute glamour. I put together three different looks that will have you looking gorgeous for your big night—with a minimum of stress!

Look 1: This first look was inspired by my school’s prom theme this year, Red Carpet. I love this dress for its fun and glamorous vibe, as well as its ability to make a statement. Because, after all, isn’t that what the red carpet is all about?

Dress | Pumps | Earrings

Look 2: Up next I have the perfect mix of elegance and individuality. I could envision this look on a more bohemian girl who wants a fun way to showcase her sense of personal style. This look also just happens to be my fave.

Dress | Shoes | Clutch

Look 3: For this last look, I put together a bold and funky ensemble with a bit of edge. I’m completely obsessed with this black mesh dress. It’s an effortless combination of being understated yet making a statement at the same time.

Bella Goes to Prom Tue, 19 May 2015 23:00:10 +0000

This past weekend was my senior prom, and I want to share what my friends and I wore.

Many girls go the more glamorous route and get their hair and makeup done, but my friends and I enjoy doing our own makeup. So we did it ourselves and saved a lot of money, too!

BP. Pick of the Week: Drusy Ring Tue, 19 May 2015 22:57:14 +0000 There are so many predictable pieces of jewelry out there, and while of course we love a good layering necklace and all those midi rings, this drusy ring is perfectly unlike anything we’ve seen lately.

drusy ring | $12

Why we love it:

It’s unique. We love how unrefined this ring is. It’s bold and proud to be in its unpolished form. (That’s kind of inspiring, is it not?)

It has natural shimmer. Those tiny facets add organic sparkle—nature’s own glitter!

]]> 0 DIY: Revamped Jeans Mon, 18 May 2015 21:34:21 +0000
I’m so pumped for today’s post. Its been a looong looong time since I’ve been creative with a DIY project, and I especially love this one. It’s great for all those extra pairs of jeans or shorts just sitting in your closet. Also, it lets us feel like fashion designers for the day. (Yes, there’s sewing involved.) :)

But don’t panic! You won’t need crazy sewing skills, just a basic hand stitch with a needle and thread. If you’re not comfortable with a needle and thread, click here for simple sewing tutorial, or just grab some fabric glue. On the other hand, if you’re a sewing master then go ahead and use a sewing machine.

Here’s what you’ll need:
– Denim jeans or shorts
– Decorative trim (I got mine from my local fabric store)
– A needle
– Thread that matches your trim
– Pins

Step 1:
Pick any old jeans or shorts. I chose a pair of faded black skinny jeans and rolled up a cuff, which is where I’ll be placing my trim.

Quick Tip: Iron the cuff to make the stitching easier.

Step 2:
Measure the trim by placing it on the cuff precisely where you’ll soon attach it. Cut the trim to those measurements.

Step 3:
Pin your trim to the cuff.

Step 4:
Start sewing! Or gluing. :)

That’s it!

Now you’ve got yourself a brand new pair of pants. I adore this project because you can choose any sort of trim to create something personal and one-of-a-kind.

Let me know if you enjoyed this post. I would love, love, love to see how it works for you. :) Remember to use #NordstromBP if you post pics on Instagram!

New Hair! Sat, 16 May 2015 17:00:45 +0000 Hey, guys! So recently I was feeling a bit spontaneous and decided to chop 5 inches off my hair. I mean it was already pretty short but now it’s even shorter and I’m absolutely loving it! Here are some pics I recently shot of my new ‘do!

I also decided to add more blonde to my hair in anticipation of summer. It took three very long hours (especially since my hair appointment was right after my SAT exam, and yes, it was just as bad as everyone says) but in the end it was worth it.

Let me know what you think about my hair in the comments and also let me know if you’re planning on changing up your hair for summer!

Friday Dance Party Fri, 15 May 2015 21:00:26 +0000 Happy Friday! Friends, let’s climb into the Wayback Machine and turn the dial to 1996, where we will experience the finest in bitter social satire, jangly pop hooks and fantastically skinny British boys. Put on your dancing shoes and check your class issues at the door—it’s time to get down with the common people.

Tattoos & Piercings Fri, 15 May 2015 17:00:45 +0000 Many of Clare’s and my friends have asked us about our experience getting our first tattoo. Although Clare and I both follow many beauty gurus on Youtube, and have found a ton of videos that explain a tattoo’s meaning or how painful a piercing is, none (that we have watched or found) give a first-timer’s point of view. So Clare and I made a video for you (and our friends) explaining the process and pain level—and we threw in some helpful tips, too.

Disclaimer: We are not claiming we are experts, these are just our opinions from our personal experiences.

The Beauty Trend Show Wed, 13 May 2015 17:52:26 +0000

Every year, my mum and I wake up bright and early for the Beauty Trend Show at our local Nordstrom. The tradition continued this past weekend, and it was awesome—as always.

We arrived around 7:45 am, received pink gift bags, filled up on some much-needed caffeine, and grabbed some seats for the show. Before the show started, we filled out raffle cards, hoping to win something. (My mum ended up scoring some Smashbox goodies!)

Spring was in full bloom this year, and pink was definitely the theme color. We saw gorgeous new looks from YSL, Estée Lauder, MAC, Clarisonic and more.

I absolutely loved hearing about all the new beauty and hair products, then trying them out after the show.

After lots of sampling and shopping, we took lunch break at the Nordstrom Cafe.

Crab Mac & Cheese and Earl Grey tea. So good… So, so good.

Before leaving I had the opportunity to get my hair done by Morroccan Oil stylist Michelle. Michelle was so sweet and showed me all the tricks and tips to get that relaxed wavy look.

Check your local store listings to see if any beauty events are happening near you!

OOTD: Lady in Laguna Wed, 13 May 2015 17:00:17 +0000

So it’s been H-O-T here in SoCal, and in an attempt to escape the sizzling heat, I took an impromptu trip to Laguna Beach. Although I didn’t manage to spot LC or Kristin (“Laguna Hills” references, haha) I did manage to wear a supercute outfit, so of course I had to snap some pics!

High-Waisted Shorts | Ray-Ban Aviators | Halter Top (love this one!)

I’ve been loving halter-style bathing-suit tops lately and this one, with all its floral-and-crochet detail, has stolen my heart…too cute!

Sunnies are always a must because fun in the sun isn’t so fun when your eyes are burning…am I right?

Quick tip: Don’t bring your most beloved sandals to the beach because they will get crusty and gross. Instead, opt for a cheap, comfy pair that is easily replaceable.

Yours truly,

OOTD: Neon for Every Day Tue, 12 May 2015 21:49:26 +0000

I struggle with wearing color—I tend to wear black, grey and white the most. But every once and a while I try to step outside my comfort zone.

This skirt is totally out of my comfort zone, especially with the neon floral pattern and the peachy-pink background color. But since there is navy in the floral pattern, I paired it with my navy top with white striped sleeves, and my white Air Forces.

Music Monday Mon, 11 May 2015 18:13:42 +0000

It’s been a while since I did a post on music, and I’m way too obsessed with the new Mumford & Sons album to not talk about it.

I’ve always been a fan of Mumford & Sons, and their new album, “Wilder Mind,” continues to amaze me. They just keep getting better and better. “Wilder Mind” has a different feel from their previous albums (less banjo, more electric guitar), but it still stays true to their folky/rocker style.

Here are two of my favorite songs from the album. I’m not gonna lie, it was really hard to pick just a few. Be sure to check out the whole album—it’s crazy good. :)

Snake Eyes

One thing I love about Mumford & Sons is how, in most of their songs, they just start rocking out. You know what I’m talking about. It’s that climax and you start rocking out, flipping your hair back and forth… Yeah, it’s jam time. In “Snake Eyes,” after 2:12 jam time is non-stop.

Tompkins Square Park

I’ve got “Tompkins Square Park” on repeat. I can’t stop listening, but I’m not sick of it, either. I think this song perfectly captures the new, more electric sound of this album. It def shows how musically talented they are, too.

Are any of you guys fans of Mumford & Sons? What do you think about their eccentric album? Let’s talk music!

Happy Mumford Monday. 😉

Beauty How-To: Gold Eyes for Prom Sun, 10 May 2015 17:00:38 +0000

Prom is right around the corner. You’ve got your dress, but how are you going to do your makeup? My best friend, Kenya, is a great makeup artist, and she volunteered to show you how to do a glam gold eye that’s perfect for prom.

Step 1: Prime eyelid with Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer

Step 2: Apply a dark brown shadow (Urban Decay’s “Darkhorse is a great choice) on the outer corner of the eyelid and in the crease of the lid, blend thoroughly.

Step 3: Place gold glitter (Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow Beige ) is a great choice to complete this look.) on the inner part of the eye and the center.

Step 4: Apply mascara to your own eyelashes, or apply false lashes for volume.

Step 5: Look GOLDEN!

Even if you’re not attending prom, this look is perfect for any future event that requires a touch of subtle glamor. Hope you like it!

What to Wear: Summer Concerts, Part 4: Hip-Hop Edge Sat, 09 May 2015 17:00:01 +0000

We have finally reached the last look in my concert outfit series. This look is perfect if you’re planning on attending a rap or R & B concert.

I love the way this casual tee and burgundy leather skirt complement each other, giving off a fun, sporty vibe.

I figured since this outfit is for a rap concert, I’ve got to have some chains on, am I right!? Haha : )

Converse add to the whole sporty feel. Black ruffle socks add my own girly, personal touch.

Friday Dance Party Fri, 08 May 2015 20:51:05 +0000 Happy Friday! It’s a gorgeous day here in Seattle, sunny and warm enough that the whole city seems to be outside celebrating. Today’s song has nothing to do with any of that—except that it’s a really good song by someone we hope to hear a lot more from.

Now get out there and shake your tail feathers, friends. Let’s keep this dance party going all weekend long!

OOTD: Printed Pants Fri, 08 May 2015 18:22:33 +0000

Spring weather in Portland is unpredictable. It can be sunny for three days, then rain for weeks.

These pants are perfect for transitional weather, lightweight and great for layering. For this warm spring day, I paired them with a top that has both pattern and texture—which works because the color is a nice, subdued neutral that picks up the color of the pattern in the pants. Nude Mary Jane heels dress up the outfit without adding yet another busy visual element.
