Now that it’s September, summer styles are beginning to fade as new fall trends are making their debut. But don’t put away your warm weather wardrobe just yet; there are still plenty of nice days left—maybe too many. When this time of year rolls around, I almost wish the weather would take a turn for the gray. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sun (it’s such a nice switch up from Oregon’s October-May forecast of rain), but how am I supposed to wear my cute back-to-school clothes if it’s still 80 degrees out?!
Transitioning your summer wardrobe to autumn can be tricky, but it’s definitely possible! Here are a couple tips and ideas to try:
1. Switch out your brights for jewel tones and neutrals. Dipping into a darker palette automatically makes a look feel more fall.
2. Pair a cardi with shorts. It’s important to keep proportions in mind when wearing this combo. If your shorts are a more relaxed fit, choose a sweater that falls a couple of inches above the hem to avoid looking sloppy. If your shorts are curve-hugging or high-waisted, pair them with an oversized sweater. Whatever you do, don’t choose a sweater the same length as your shorts.
4. If you’re going to wear a crop top, try a high-waisted maxi skirt to minimize the midriff exposure. If you insist on showing a little more skin, layer a sheer tunic over the crop top for a flirty look. But the 6-inch expanse of bare stomach needs to be left back in August!
Here’s one of my summer-fall transition looks. I absolutely love the new dolman cardis. [Full outfit details at the bottom of the post]
