Rachel Roy has come a long way since her first job as a sales associate at Contempo Casuals in the late ’80s. (Wow. Anyone else remember that store?) The California native went on to become the women’s and children’s creative director at Rocawear and now runs her thriving namesake label, which was full to the brim with fresh, lively prints for spring/summer 2013. Roy’s line is a favorite among women who love fashion but don’t want to get crazy with it, opting instead for easy-to-wear pieces like shirtdresses, palazzo pants and trim cardigans.

American track star Sanya Richards-Ross was also at the presentation, flashing her Olympic gold medals from London for the 400m dash and 4x400m relay.

I love the way Fashion Week brings out all walks of life—even Olympic athletes. I should’ve asked her how fast she can run in heels!
