Milan Fashion Week: February 25
Highlights and commentary from yesterday’s Milan Fashion Week runway shows: In a dramatic departure from years past, Gucci gets bookish with librarian chic and pared-down nostalgic looks from the brand’s new creative director, Alessandro Michele.
Fashion Office Bottom Line: “Alessandro Michele’s debut collection for women continues in very much the same vein as his men’s show in January. A clear statement that he is breaking with the previous house codes of shiny jet-set glamour and proposing a gentler, softer and altogether more intellectual approach with a nod to mixing the masculine and feminine. This show saw long and loose silhouettes playing to the general ’70s mood of the season with faded vintage florals, lace and an artistic palette of subdued pinks, olive and burnt caramel. Accessories, including fur-lined clogs and chain-handle bags, are sure to be big commercial hits come this fall.” —Red Godfrey, VP Fashion Office
