Custom Chucks @ Our Converse Pop-In Shop

From revolutionizing basketball in the 1920s to igniting punk rock counterculture to becoming the go-to shoe for men, women and kids of all ages, the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star has seen it all—until now.

To celebrate this month’s Pop-In @ Nordstrom, which is devoted to all things Converse, we’ve invited local artists from every corner of the USA to put their own unique spin on the ultimate blank canvas: a pristine pair of white high-top Chucks. Keep reading to see 14 hand-painted sneakers—and find out where you can nab these limited-edition kicks while supplies last.

[Please note: Each hand-painted shoe design can only be found at a specific store, as listed below—and each is a limited edition of 30 pairs, so they're likely to go fast! Available in men's and women's sizes; $74.95 each. Not available for purchase online.]

What kind of supplies are used to make these designs/art? And would the design last or end up fading?

Phyll March 24, 2014 at 9:51 am

Bring this to Cleveland!!!! So disappointed that I live far from these Nordstrom stores. Can these be ordered ????

Justin, Blog Editor March 24, 2014 at 12:54 pm

Hi Phyll! Yes, they can be ordered by phone from the individual stores that carry them. Just click the store link under the shoe you’re interested in, and it will take you to a page with the correct phone number to call. Tell them you’re interested in ordering an artist-designed shoe from the Converse pop-in shop.
Thanks!

These are so cool. Are these the same ones that the artist at theFaderFort at SXSW did?

James March 27, 2014 at 10:43 am

I know an artist in San Antonito, how could she submit a design for consideration for our city?

Leslie March 27, 2014 at 12:56 pm

I thought this was an event in which they would tag or paint on new pairs of Chucks purchased the day of the event in the store during event hours. Is that something different?

Justin, Blog Editor April 1, 2014 at 10:46 am

Hi James! Thanks for your comment. Our Converse pop-in shop is only open for a limited time (3/21–4/20), so we were only able to work with a handful of artists—but thanks for your interest! Let us know his or her name anyway, we’d love to check out their work.

Justin, Blog Editor April 1, 2014 at 10:49 am

Hi Leslie! You are correct on both counts. In addition to the pre-designed shoes pictured above, we ALSO have shoe-customization events in the 8 selected stores each week, in which we’ll have artists (different than the artists above) on-hand to create custom shoes just for you. Click on the store links in the article above to find dates and times at the store nearest you.
Thanks for reading!

I purchased a pair of white converse yesterday at the King of Prussia mall and then went to the Pop up shop, picked out a design and then they were picked up by my daughter about 2 hours later. I thought that what I was getting was what I picked out but when we got them back, the design was 5x bigger and covered the whole one side of my sneaker and looks awful, like graffiti. Can they fix this by painting white or am I stuck with these awful sneakers? They should let you know how big the design will be. I feel ripped off!!!

Joy April 19, 2014 at 8:43 pm

Hi Shari, so sorry about that! I will bring this up with our larger team, and will let you know what we can do to help.

Justin, Blog Editor April 26, 2014 at 9:38 pm

Hi again Shari,
I spoke with our team. Please give our King of Prussia store a call at 610-265-6111; they will be happy to do anything they can to amend the situation. One of our Marketing Managers will be calling ahead to the KOP Store Manager and Customer Service as well, to inform them of your situation so they will be aware when you call. Please feel free to let us know on here if we can help any further—and if you like, there’s also an “Email the Editor” option on the right-hand side of this page; if you use that, it will allow us to email you back directly.
Thank you and all the best,
—Justin, Blog Editor
