Real Weddings: Caitlin & Brandon | Nordstrom Blog

A fall day with clear blue skies was the setting for Caitlin and Brandon’s glamorous wedding. Caitlin shares the story of their happily ever after.

The Proposal: Our relationship began six years ago, when we met at a mutual friend’s birthday party. We both attended the University of Washington and found each other during our last year of school. After several years of dating, Brandon proposed to me in the most special way he could: in front of our families on Christmas Eve. Both of us are extremely family-oriented, and it was so romantic and special that he involved both families.

The Scene: October 5, 2013, The Golf Club at Newcastle near Seattle, Washington

We wanted our wedding to be classic, romantic and glamorous. We chose the elegant, castle-like setting of Newcastle Golf and Country Club. Our theme for the evening was “happily ever after” and we felt the venue—with its sweeping views and classic romantic feeling—embodied our vision for our special day.

Early in the engagement, we selected our colors: blush, charcoal and white. We knew we wanted to incorporate Glassybaby votives (a local company that makes blown-glass candle holders and donates proceeds to charity) in our wedding, because Brandon put the ring inside of one when he proposed. We created a custom palette, which featured five different colors of Glassybabies for each table. Our head table featured the beautiful “True Love” shade.

Our table names represented places where our love for each other grew throughout our relationship, like a first trip or special memory. We explained why each place was significant to us on our table placards, so that our guests could get a little glimpse into our love story.

Our dog, Olive, a teacup Yorkie, was involved in the wedding as well. She joined my life before I got engaged, and I felt it was appropriate for her to join me as I walked down the aisle toward Brandon and to starting a new journey in our lives.

My Wedding Stylist: Heather Rose, Downtown Seattle Wedding Suite

I had the absolute pleasure and privilege of being paired up with Heather when I began my search for my wedding dress. From the first consultation on the phone, she was thorough, detailed and confident that she could find my dream wedding dress. During our seven months of working together, she was always positive and enthusiastic. Her patience is unparalleled. She made the entire process of finding my dress and bringing it to life a fairy tale come true!

My Look: After a few appointments at the Wedding Suite, I found my perfect dress: ‘Amherst’ by Anne Barge. The sweetheart neckline was feminine and delicate, and the shape was form-fitting but still princess-like.

Heather found the perfect “bling” accoutrement to make the dress feel exactly like me: the Rosa Clará ‘Belinda’ belt. We completed the look with Valentino ‘Couture Bow’ pumps in black.

When I found the dress, I decided to bring in my bridal party to get outfitted. Heather managed to dress seven ladies, all different shapes and sizes, and make each one feel confident and happy. The bridesmaids wore black crinkle chiffon dresses by Amsale. My maid of honor and sister, Jamie, wore a black Monique Lhuillier one-shoulder tulle dress.

Heather also helped my mother find a beautiful St. John dress that she felt comfortable and confident in, in addition to a special pair of Chanel heels. Heather excelled in every challenge I threw at her with a smile on her face and a can-do attitude!

Our Special Moments: The most special part of the day was the overall beautiful feeling of togetherness and celebration, love and happiness, all shared with our family and closest friends. Much of our extended family is from out of the state, and many of them made long journeys to be with us, flying in from California, New York, Chicago, D.C., Paris and Panama!

Another special feature of our wedding was the presence of my maternal grandparents, who traveled from California. My grandpa is 92 and my grandma is 88, and it was a huge sacrifice for them to fly up to Seattle for the wedding. We so enjoyed their spirit and energy. A very special moment of the evening was salsa dancing with my grandpa at the reception!

Guests danced until the early hours of the morning and enjoyed late-night comfort food snacks and dessert bar! Brandon and I ended the night with a glamorous sparkler send-off to complete our amazing day.
