Reed Krakoff’s Sheer Genius

Fashion designers have long blended sartorial opposites to create a kind of cool, fresh tension that eventually becomes the norm, but few do it as successfully as American designer Reed Krakoff. For his spring/summer 2013 show yesterday, the Connecticut native mixed sports-inflected cuts and fabrics — think drawstring waists, perforated leather, racer stripes and bomber jackets — with lingerie-style designs, like sheer overlays, bustier tops and spaghetti straps. The result is positively modern, helped in part by a neutral palette that keeps the collection sophisticated and clean — the definition of Krakoff’s aesthetic.

Anna Wintour had the best seat in the house — right near the elevators, for a quick departure after the show.

CR Fashion Book creator Carine Roitfeld and actress Julianne Moore chatted in the front row before the show:

All in all, it was a pretty spectacular event. I’ll be back tomorrow with more photos!
