Escada, New at Nordstrom

The elegant and timeless designs of Escada are now at Nordstrom! For over 35 years, this German-based brand has reinvented uncomplicated chic with rich color palettes and innovative fabrics that will take you from everyday to evening with ease. Daniel Wingate, Escada’s fashion director, reveals his inspiration behind the spring ’14 and resort collections.

“The main inspiration while designing the Escada spring/summer 2014 collection was a feeling taken from the Italian and French Rivieras,” says Daniel, who has been with the house of Escada since 2003. “For the resort collection this spirit then linked itself to a very soft and pretty color.”

When it comes to designing, Daniel says he’s on a mission “to make young women look sophisticated and to make mature women feel young.”

“I wanted really gorgeous, rich, saturated color inspired by a kind of seventies-meets-twenties hedonistic mood, a little blurred, a little sheen.” —Tom Ford

Did you hear? We’ve partnered with Etsy—the global online marketplace—to bring you unique, handcrafted goods and artwork from some of our favorite emerging artists across the country.

We’re excited to announce that, starting early this month, we’re bringing even more artists into our Etsy and Nordstrom Present Boutique online and in a handful of our stores. In addition to Downing Pottery and CircaCeramics, we’ll soon be offering pieces from Dock Artisan and Anto Arts in our At Home Department as well as Whichgoose, Serephine, Paloma’s Nest, Sweet Sorrella and Milk and Honey in our Wedding Suite.

We asked a couple of our artisans about their craft and their partnership with us. Here’s what they had to say.

Sarah Woodson from Downing Pottery

“Walking into Nordstrom and seeing my mugs on display was a moment I will never forget. I threw those pots. I attached the handles. I painted and glazed each piece and sat by a kiln until 2AM, waiting for it to shut off. Being on display in Nordstrom was tangible validation that the work that I do matters. It’s a feeling that artists dream of and one that very few of us are ever lucky enough to experience.”

Erin Brooks from Serephine: Headpieces, Accessories and Veils

“My line is a very personal and special thing to me; that’s something I try to convey in the artistry of each piece that I create with my own two hands. I focus on the special, unique, original—and on providing the best possible quality.

“I’ve spent my fair share of time perusing the lovely things in the Seattle store’s Wedding Suite, and I think it’s such a beautiful space. I’m simply elated that my pieces get to be a part of that.”

Join us to meet the artisans and view their trunk shows on June 15 or check back to view their collections online, available June 10.
Downtown Seattle: Serephine, wedding veils and sashes
Tysons Corner: Milk & Honey, flatware
Houston Galleria: Sweet Sorella, compacts
Garden State Plaza: Paloma’s Nest, ring bearer trays

It’s Karl Time!

Losing an hour of sleep couldn’t be more chic, especially if you’re winding time forward with the new Karl Lagerfeld watch collection. Embrace Daylight Saving Time in style by donning a luxe timepiece as unique as the visionary himself.

We’re celebrating the launch of a new brand today at Nordstrom—Viva Vena!, a lower-priced line from Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, the ladies behind Vena Cava. We are as much in love with the playful prints and colors as we are with their new Fashion Film. We also love a good reminder that it’s important not to take yourself too seriously.

Fashion Film—winner of the self-styled “Best Fashion Film Ever” award—stars Lizzy Caplan and is directed by Matthew Frost.

Our long-awaited CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Boutique opens in six stores on Monday, and we couldn’t be more excited. The temporary shop will be filled with selected items from all 10 Fashion Fund designers, including winner Greg Chait of The Elder Statesman, who scored a cool $300,000 to fuel his business. Check out just-published stories on the boutique in Vogue, Glamour and WWD (subscription required).

We snapped a few of our favorite items from the boutique, which will pop up in the following Nordstrom stores: Seattle, San Francisco Centre, The Grove in Los Angeles, Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, NorthPark Center in Dallas and treasure&bond in New York. The action starts Feb. 11 and goes until May 31—we recommend showing up sooner than later for the best selection. Click here for more information on the 2012 designers and past winners.
