Nordstrom at NYFW

In case you missed it, our resident Fashion Month foot soldier (editor-on-the-ground Laura Cassidy) reported on Alice + Olivia’s Sacred-Grove-inspired presentation on Tuesday. Now, we’re catching up with Sarah Lucero, lead artist at stila, to chat about how she created a makeup look to match the over-the-top old world kitsch and all that embroidery.

To riff on Alice + Olivia creative director Stacey Bendet’s love of turbans, long, loose waves and spiritual positivity, Sarah drew inspiration from tarot card readers of the 1800s.

As our fearless editor-on-the-ground, Laura Cassidy, reported yesterday from the front row of Rodarte, Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s Spring collection was inspired by The Spirit of the Beehive, a 1970’s Spanish film with two young sisters (and their charming childlike imaginations) at the heart of the story.

To play off the youthful and dreamy vibe of the collection, James Kaliardos at NARS created a makeup look that’s fresh and radiant—but it’s not about going bare-faced. The trick is his genius combination of products to get a natural glow. Because some of these items won’t be available until February 2017, we substituted your best bets for the here-and-now.

THAT’S THE SPIRIT: HOW TO GET IT

Our Director of Creative Projects is maybe one of the most colorful people we know—like, an animated rainbow with pink puppies follows her everywhere she goes. It’s pretty magical. But New York in midwinter is a cruel place. Pastel puppies or not. And really, when travel is concerned, less is very often more.

Even when that travel takes you to Fashion Week.

So let this glimpse into O.K.’s luggage be a lesson to all of us: It’s chic to streamline. And to wear sensible shoes in subhuman temperatures. These shoes and coats are our Pop-In Shop curator’s all-black-everything staples for Fall Fashion Week, and they are also our way of saying to you, “Heads up! We’re going full-on with this thing.”

In the days and weeks to come, you’ll hear from more Nordstrom insiders about their packing strategies, and we’ll get geared up in other ways, too—like, with actual gear. Because, yeah, how does our social media team capture those killer backstage beauty moments? (And everything else?)

So bundle up, friends—Olivia Kim does—and stay tuned.

Rachel is just about the sweetest girl ever! This lady behind Pink Peonies is back on our blog and rocking her new look. Rachel loves feminine silhouettes, but I like how she’s mixed in a little rock ‘n’ roll this season. It’s great to see a girl experiment with trends yet stay true to her personal aesthetic. I’m definitely putting Rachel on my style-stalking list!

Jackie has mastered the art of incorporating fall trends into a warm weather look. Her light layering and quilted leather mini-skirt hint at the season to come, but they also work in today’s high temps. As a TV personality, model and blogger, Jackie says Fashion Week is one of her favorite times of the year, even if she doesn’t get any sleep. I know the feeling!

How could we not post another shot of the gorgeous Chriselle? I love her menswear chic ensemble. I’m desperate to find a tux-inspired suit and I might just have to steal Chriselle’s. Her beanie and tee pairing adds a bit of downtown cool to the look, while her poppy Céline and bright lips and nails add some color.

I can’t wait to see what she’s got planned for London!

Welcome back, Nasiba! Fashion darling Nasiba is rocking this sporty lady look. Her lux varsity jacket is oh-so-perfectly draped (that’s how all the cool kids are wearing their coats these days!), and I love the micro-quilted sleeves.

I can always count on Nasiba being perfectly put together from head to toe. Even her manicure is coordinated to her outfit!

One of my fave fashion muses, Miss Elena Moussa is back again on our blog! She’s just a girl who looks amazing in everything. I love how Elena takes risks with fashion and I can always expect her to look both unique and flawless.

Today’s daring metallic trench is the coolest coat I’ve seen all week. It doesn’t hurt that she’s also a super sweet lady who always tries to make time for us photographers!

Stylist Olivia says she likes to mix things up, wardrobe-wise. This season, it’s all about bold silhouettes and genre mixing: While her pants are a touch boho, her sleek jacket is über-modern. Toss in a knotted white tee and some bold jewelry and you get an unexpectedly cool look!
