Reed Krakoff‘s reptile-infused collection drew a stylish crowd. We picked out some familiar faces. (See also: runway coverage of the show and backstage beauty before the show.)

Themes aren’t always apparent in a new collection—it often takes an interview with the designer or a look at the show program to fully understand the thought behind the artistry. But with Reed Krakoff‘s fall/winter 2013 collection, shown today in Chelsea, there was no denying a serpentine motif weaving its way through his clothing and handbags. Python swaths coiled around an asymmetrical white dress while various shades of alligator composed the torsos of cashmere sweaters, the shafts of tall boots and the foundations of structured handbags and clutches. It’s clearly cool to be cold-blooded. (See also: the front row and our backstage beauty coverage of this show)

Meagan says that on a cold, snowy day, color is an absolute must for her mood. Her lively ensemble certainly stands out, and I like her approach to the season.

Color and print are a great way to beat the winter blahs! Her bright, feminine look and cheery disposition totally lifted my spirits after a long day in the elements. Thanks, Meagan!

Street Report: Chriselle Lim

The gorgeous Chriselle is always a head turner (welcome back to The Thread!). Before she became a blogger extraordinaire (The Chriselle Factor), she was a wardrobe stylist. So it’s no surprise that she is on top of her sartorial game. I’m loving her graphic leopard print, bright bag and mesh booties!

Shearling is having a major fashion moment this season, and I love the modern cut of this jacket. Sleek and chic, this show-goer has struck the perfect balance of texture and print. Her simple palette and statement accessories make this outfit a winter win!

Reed Krakoff’s Sheer Genius

Fashion designers have long blended sartorial opposites to create a kind of cool, fresh tension that eventually becomes the norm, but few do it as successfully as American designer Reed Krakoff. For his spring/summer 2013 show yesterday, the Connecticut native mixed sports-inflected cuts and fabrics — think drawstring waists, perforated leather, racer stripes and bomber jackets — with lingerie-style designs, like sheer overlays, bustier tops and spaghetti straps. The result is positively modern, helped in part by a neutral palette that keeps the collection sophisticated and clean — the definition of Krakoff’s aesthetic.

Anna Wintour had the best seat in the house — right near the elevators, for a quick departure after the show.

CR Fashion Book creator Carine Roitfeld and actress Julianne Moore chatted in the front row before the show:

All in all, it was a pretty spectacular event. I’ll be back tomorrow with more photos!

It may still be cold—and even snowing—in parts of the U.S. (i.e. Seattle), but that’s not going to stop us from ogling the amazing shoes just released for spring. So long, boots, fur and shearling; hello, sandals, heels and open toes!

We’ll be the first to admit, these spring footwear trends are getting us just a little giddy.

1 – Crafty: Earthy & Woven. Play up your back-to-nature side with heels and wedges decked out in basket weaves, rope details and neutral tones. Make no mistake, the DIY inspirations and hand-hewn details on these shoes are seriously high fashion. [Pictured: Miu Miu Wedge Sandal]

2 – Splashy Glam: Bright & Exaggerated. With electric neons and over-the-top shapes, this footwear trend isn’t for the faint of heart. The only rule of thumb? Go bold, or go home. [Pictured: Reed Krakoff 'Architect' Wedge Sandal]

3 – Charm: Feminine & Playful. Girly goes glam in antique pinks, ankle straps and frou-frou details like bows, ruffles and bitty buttons. [Pictured: MARC BY MARC JACOBS Platform Sandal]

4 – Mid-Century: Mod & Vampy. Take classic, reinvented shapes, ’60s pop and a sultry palette, and you have the recipe for this spring’s alluringly retro heels. [Pictured: Yves Saint Laurent 'Riviera' Sandal]

5 – New Horizons: Neutral & Minimal. Get back to basics with simple straps, wood-grain finishes and elegant silhouettes with an animalistic vibe. It’s desert-chic at its finest. [Pictured: Prada Wood Heel Genuine Python Platform Sandal]

6 – Streamlined: Sleek & Angular. Sandals that look like a Mies van der Rohe ‘less is more’ masterpiece? Yes, please. Look for sharp, architectural shapes in clean black, stark white and lustrous metallic. [Pictured: Diane von Furstenberg 'Elsa' Sandal]

Reed Krakoff Spring Collection

Photographed by the designer himself, Reed Krakoff’s Spring 2012 ad campaign features the flame-haired Karen Elson looking as bright and beautiful as the new collection.

We’re loving the streamlined silhouettes and neutral palette with just a few colorful punches. We’ll also admit that we’re a little obsessed with the ‘Boxer’ and ‘Atlantique’ satchels. So utilitarian chic, we may need one in every color. And those go-with-anything slingbacks? Yes, please.
