Street Report: Joanna Coles

Joanna tried to sneak out of Lincoln Center unnoticed, but I managed to catch up with her, and she was gracious as always–we also saw her last fall.

Joanna was recently appointed as the new Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan Magazine and still makes time for her Project Runway appearances. I love her unfussy, city-chic sheath–and her smile!

High-Volume Pieces: 4 Ways to Wear

A mix of amped-up shapes and intense color makes for a high-fidelity spring. Here’s how we turn up the volume.

#1. Shock value. The brilliance of these ultra wide-leg pants makes a perfectly unpredictable pairing with the super-feminine blouse. Add sky-high heels to create a long, lean line.

#2. Top it off. Keep your top color choices interesting and let it take the lead by keeping the bottom sleek and fitted. We’ve used pieces with a subtle sheen to give a wear-anywhere look a little dressed-up love.

#3. Balancing act. The billowy, bright maxi skirt can be toned down with the help of a form-loving sweater and barely-there flats. It’s all about yin and yang.

#4. Go full blast. All-over volume looks chic and classic with neutral hues in a similar palette and a tailored waist. Update this elegant silhouette with a simple but bold accessory.

Warmer Days to Come

Our post-holiday Seattle Flagship window displays are all about sunny getaways and transitional dressing into spring. We’ve run the gamut from on-trend, office-appropriate outfits to super-savvy cocktail dressing and beachwear.

This nautical number is a perfect example of what’s on deck for spring—a combo of bright colors and big graphic prints and patterns, all elevated by a pair of platform sandals (you can never go wrong with Dior).

As days get warmer (lucky you if they already are), swap out that statement-making kate spade mini trench for a lightweight and colorful blazer or cardigan.
