Every day at Nordstrom, we’re inspired by the diverse group of people that makes up the communities we serve. For our 2014 Heritage Month celebrations, we’ve asked our employees to tell us the names of people who have inspired them. Here are just a few of the compelling people who our teams are celebrating in February. Who inspires you?
“I am inspired by Nelson Mandela because of his strength, compassion and commitment to civil rights. He endured years of prison—but was not bitter and broken—and he went on to win a Nobel Peace Prize and to become the first black president of South Africa.”
“I’m inspired by Coretta Scott King, because she was a woman of intelligence, grace and strength. She believed everyone had the power to bring about change and challenged her audience to bring positive change at home, at work and in the community.”
“Wendy Williams inspires me because she’s a go-getter. She’s a strong woman who knows what she wants in life and will stop at nothing to get it.”
“Kind of Blue is possibly the best piece of recorded music ever. If aliens ever come to Earth from outer space, they will not question our humanity if they listen to Miles.”
“Rosa Parks inspires me to always stand up for what I believe in. Even when the odds are against you—stay strong!”
“Muhammad Ali showed the world the importance of self-confidence during a trying time in American history.”
“Nikky Finney inspires me because she has an amazing love for—and appreciation of—the written word. She’s one of my favorite poets/authors of all time.”
