BB Creams: What’s With All the Jibba’ Jabba’?

There’s a lot of hype in the beauty world about BB creams right now. They’re hotter than hot, as well they should be, so let’s talk about all the fuss and just how they can simplify your daily beauty routine.

Short for ‘beauty balm’ or ‘blemish balm,’ these creams are like the everything bagel of beauty basics, with all your daily essentials packed into one powerful bottle: primer, foundation, sunscreen and serum. Delicious little miracle workers! To us, that means fewer bottles of product to keep track of and less to apply in the morning. Who doesn’t love a time-saver like that?

BB creams have been the secret weapon for women in South Korea and Japan for decades, and are just now exploding in Western markets. No wonder: Just apply a small amount in your choice of shade to the face, and that’s it. You’re all set with sun protection, a tinted moisturizer, primer and imperfection reducers for a more even skin tone. It’s a perfectly natural look on its own, or can be applied before a light dusting of powder or your favorite foundation for more coverage. We’d definitely call that a hype-worthy blessing in a bottle.

CHANEL Cruise 2012/13 Fashion Show

Fashion details from the 18th-century royal French court. Underground dance beats from Crookers. Denim and chambray. Versailles. There’s probably only one man genius enough to bring these things together into one gorgeously cohesive package: Karl Lagerfeld.

We can’t wait to see where CHANEL takes us next.

Vintage Catalog: The Jumpsuit, 1970

Breezy jumpsuits are looking fresh and modern—even though they made their sartorial debut more than 40 years ago. Updated prints and cuts are now making this an easy piece for a jump-start to your summer.

Let’s look past the ‘Brady Bunch’ background and ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ eyeshadow, and talk about how we’d put a current spin on that ‘70s glam.

1 – Ditch those block-heel shoes in favor of strappy flat sandals for a casual outfit, or simple wedges for a dressier version.
2 – For a wider-leg jumpsuit, make sure the hem skims the top of your toes—this 1970 look could be a little longer.
3 – Let the jumpsuit take center stage by adding a simple crossbody bag and streamlined jewelry.
4 – Channel your inner Charlie’s Angel confidence, and you’re good to go.

Meet Pandora: Charmed, I’m Sure

Allow us to introduce you to one of our newest brands at Nordstrom: Pandora. We spent a (almost embarrassingly) long time browsing the hundreds of charms available, and still can’t decide on our favorites.

All you need is your base bracelet, and you can go to town picking the charms you love the most—from witty little animals and creatures to symbolic ornaments and accents—oh, the possibilities! It’s all the customizable fun of DIY: no toolkit or safety glasses required.

Trouvé ‘Wales’ Wedge Sandal

To ground pastels, brights and pretty much anything else you’ll want to wear this summer, just reach for this white-hot Trouvé wedge.

Double diptyque: A Re-Use Roundup

We’ve mentioned our diptyque devotion before, not only for all the divine scents to choose from, but also for those elegant, simply designed containers. But what to do when your wick runs out? We discovered that we weren’t the only ones who thought it a shame to get rid of our empty jars when hit up one of our favorite resources for inspiration—Pinterest.

Here are our favorite ideas that we came across for upcycling diptyque candle jars.

A flower vase-as-bookend topper for the literature lover, from Hope in High Heels.

A tasteful, DIY way to stay organized, from Katie Armour.

A perfect way to accent French-inspired décor and a place for chic odds and ends, from decor8.

The beauty queen’s makeup brush holder, from Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere.

An orchid centerpiece for uptown tea, from Luxiarare.

What are your creative ways for upcycling beautiful objects?

The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier

The de Young Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and Nordstrom present The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, showing now through August 19.

With 140 haute couture and ready-to-wear designs, along with sketches, archival documents, photography and video clips, this exhibition showcases the masterful craftsmanship and rebellious spirit of fashion’s “enfant terrible“, starting from the launch of his first collection in 1976.

We were thrilled to speak with Gaultier about his works on display, his design philosophy and his thoughts on beauty and individuality.

Brides: Dresses You & Your Maids Will Love

Molly, our Weddings Site Merchandiser—and one of our resident recent newlyweds—asked if she could gush for just a minute about Anna Elyse bridesmaid dresses. Your Blog Editor’s response? Gush away, Molly!

The rest of the Weddings Team and I are thrilled to be partnering with Annie from Anna Elyse Bridesmaids this spring. Annie knows how to get all the girls in your bridal party into beautiful dresses that are both bride- and bridesmaid-approved!

What’s to love? First of all, these are all wear-again worthy. Yes! I also adore the feminine silhouettes, the perfectly elegant silk charmeuse choices (right at home in the garden or at the Four Seasons), and my favorite, a convertible style in so many colors!

As a bride, it’s amazing to be able to give lots of flattering bridesmaid options with just one dress while staying true to your wedding vision. The convertible version ties multiple ways so your ‘maids can choose a look that suits their style and body type the best. Plus, it’s so easy to switch up that it’s a totally new dress for her next cocktail soirée (nothing like those cookie-cutter formal gowns from weddings of yesteryear—i.e., something you’ll never want to wear again. Anyone else have to suffer through hot pink puff-sleeves?).

Personally, I’m loving the luxe garnet, but how about the slate green for an icy winter wonderland look, or the pale yellow for an estate-garden fête? Check out all the colors online, with even more available for special order at your closest Wedding Suite.

So many colors and styles to choose from. Seriously, did I mention I love it?!
