3 Ways to Wear Jogger Pants

From Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade to rapper Kendrick Lamar to our friends at Street Etiquette, we’ve been seeing men everywhere sporting one of our favorite new evolutions in male leg coverings (otherwise known as pants): Jogger Pants. And it’s easy to understand why: Besides being abnormally comfortable (many have elastic at the waist as well as the cuffs), they cut a lean, tapered silhouette that shows off your favorite shoes, without pesky concerns about rolling or hemming your pant leg.

Keep reading to see three ways to wear them: on the weekend, at the office, and for a night out.

[In hopes of soaking up some local flavor, we took three pairs of jogger pants—and three of our Nordstrom HQ colleagues to inhabit them—on a short train ride to Seattle's International District, otherwise known as the I.D.]

1. How to Wear Jogger Pants—On the Weekend. Perhaps their most natural application, a casual pair of soft, sweatpant-esque joggers is right at home on a low-key Saturday, in search of fresh air, rare comic books, and dim sum for brunch. We elevated their cozy vibe with a refined—yet equally comfortable—wool sweater (with suede elbow patches) and fishtail parka.

2. How to Wear Jogger Pants—At Work. This new breed of chino has all the trappings of a traditional pair of office-ready pants—zip fly, belt loops, sleek slant pockets in front and welt pockets in back—with a key distinction: that cinched, jogger-style cuff. Wear them with socks and desert boots in the winter, and wingtips with bare ankles in the summer.

3. How to Wear Jogger Pants—For a Night Out. Those of us who like to mix sports (track and field, beer pong, whatever you’re into) with rock and roll, look no further than the rare phenomenon known as leather jogger pants. For maximum bar-hopping prowess, we might suggest leaving your bulky coat at home and donning warm accessories instead.

Size Matters. Or Does It? Thanks to their stretchy, elastic waistband, most joggers will fit you in a range of sizes—as this handy video from jogger-pant pioneers Zanerobe goes to show. So order in your standard waist measurement, or size up or down if you want to go a bit baggier or slimmer.
