How fitting that on a cold NYC morning of a mere 9 degrees, we found ourselves backstage at kate spade new york, where the models were made to look like girls going on a chic winter walk.
Makeup had a feeling of luxury, with velvety textures balanced by a transparent flush. The cheeks and lips took center stage in a look created by Lyne Desnoyers from M•A•C. On the cheeks, she used a not-yet-released liquid matte lipstick blended with a fan brush to create a cool fuchsia stain, giving the models a fresh flush. Lips were a deep burgundy color in Dare You—the perfect shade to add a polished elegance.
On the nails, Deborah Lippmann created what she called a ‘red velvet cupcake’ red. Starting with short and rounded nails, she layered her best-selling My Old Flame (fact: her most-used color on the red carpet) on top of a completely dried coat of warm brown (try No More Drama for the same look), and finished it off with a super-shiny swipe of Gel Lab top coat. The result was a rich, sophisticated red we can’t wait to wear.
The fashion scene today was a fun mix of berry tones, plaids and bright pops of color. The makeup and nails perfectly complemented them, and perfectly brought to life the kate spade girl’s spirit.
