Right now we’re into making a statement with a look that’s all about the bold lip. Four of our Beauty Stylists from around the country show us their favorite products and tips for mastering fall’s boldest makeup trend.

Bold lips are my jam! To create the perfect bold lip, I start by priming with Guerlain KissKiss Liplift (available in store). Priming helps your lipstick to adhere, and this one has a bonus of plumping and smoothing lips too! Then I line my lips with a lip liner in the same color family as my chosen lipstick to prevent feathering. I start in the center or bow of my lips and sketch outward. Some of my favorite colors are Nightmoth and Burgundy lip pencils from M•A•C and CHANEL Aqua Crayon in Rouge.
Next, I apply my lipstick starting in the center and working outward. I prefer a matte, bold lip and some of my go-to products are NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils in Damned and Cruella, M•A•C Matte Lip Shades in Instigator, Matte Royal and D For Danger and Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Femme Fatale.
Pro tip: Use Anastasia’s Highlighting Pencil over the bow of your upper lip and under your lower lip to get some extra POP!

I always start by using M•A•C Prep + Prime Lip primer so my lipstick won’t feather throughout the day.
I love using YSL Touche Éclat 2.5 around my lips after primer so I can get a really clean line with my lip liner.

I use four products to create the perfect bold lip. First, I like Guerlain KissKiss Liplift to prep and prime. Apply it to the lips as well as above and below in order to prevent feathering. It defines, smoothes and plumps the lips, leaving them prepared for a lasting lipstick hold.
The second item is the perfect lip liner. I suggest choosing a lip pencil that is more neutral and similar to your natural lip color. My go-to pencil is the CHANEL Le Crayon Precision Lip Definer in Nude. This pencil offers Vitamin E to condition the lips and a smooth texture to maximize the shape of your lip, along with lasting color.
Next, pick your lip color. When choosing a bolder lip, consider the rest of your makeup. Are you doing a smoky eye? A more natural look? My favorite lipsticks for more of a bold and long-lasting formula are the NARS Audacious Lipsticks. They have an array of colors that will make an impact. Some colors of choice are Charlotte for more of a berry/wine hue, or Anna for a nude matte shade.
Lastly, make sure to have a translucent powder. The trick with the powder is it can prolong the wear of your lip color. I recommend applying lipstick and blotting it with a tissue. Dust the powder over the lips. I love the Translucent setting powder from Laura Mercier. This powder is finely milled, so it won’t leave your face or lips white. It will help diminish the look of fine lines too! After you use a coat of the powder, reapply your lipstick so you get the true color, and you should enjoy longer staying power for your perfect bold lip.

To create the perfect bold lip, starting with a smooth, blank canvas is a must. First, apply Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer in a shade matching your skin tone on a bare lip. It blurs out lip tone unevenness and is a great base, because it gives your lip color the staying power it needs!
Next, fill in your lips with my absolute favorite lip liner, Le Lipstique from Lancôme in both Scarlette and Rougelle—these are my go-to lip liners for definition and drama. I apply Scarlette on the lip line first, then Rougelle in the center of the lips—this adds more depth and dimension. Now for the fun part! Apply your favorite lip color. This fall, I recommend Ruby Woo by M•A•C. Its matte texture has a retro vibe that I love. The final step is to outline the lips with YSL Radiant Touche Éclat. This highlighting pen gives a clean, perfect edge and makes the lips appear flawless and fuller while highlighting the lip line. And there you have your perfect pout!
