Hello everyone! I wanted to share with you 5 of my favorite beauty and fragrance gifts for Mother’s Day that I know any mom would love—I know I would!

1 – Jo Malone Wild Bluebell Cologne ($55-$110). Every time I smell this fragrance, it makes me happy. Mom will definitely get compliments with this one.

2 – Viktor & Rolf ‘Flowerbomb’ Extrait de Parfum ($350). This gift is an exquisite customer favorite. Any mom would be very happy with this long-lasting, floral concentrate.

3 – Antica Farmacista ‘Champagne’ Home Ambiance Perfume ($62-$92). Everyone loves to walk into a beautifully scented home. This fragrance is so unique and vibrant. Perfectly fresh.

4 – I Love New York Mother’s Day by Bond No. 9 Fragrance ($175). I love this for the bottle alone! It’s so fun to have on the vanity, and the tangerine scent is intoxicating.

5 – Diptyque Scented Candles ($60-$90). I could not pick just one; these are all wonderful. Pick up multiple candles and cluster together for a gorgeous statement on your dining table.

NYFW Backstage Beauty Trend Report

Cheri Botiz, Nordstrom National Beauty and Fragrance Director, takes you behind the scenes of the New York Fashion Week runways, highlighting the hottest trends in beauty for Fall 2012 with tips to help you get the look now!

1 – Monochromatic Eyes. In shades of purple, browns and even reds, these were everywhere backstage. Easy, effortless beauty was part of the overall tone and this eye look falls right in line. A darker monochromatic eye lends itself more naturally to this trend.
Get the look: Lancôme ‘Color Design’ Shadow & Liner Palette in Teal Fury

2 – Matte Lips. We spotted matte lips on the runways again this season. Some shows featured a soft, almost nude matte, and others, bold pops of color, with a touch of blush or loose powder applied on top to eliminate shine.
Get the look: NARS Lipstick in Heat Wave and loose powder on top.

3 – Sculpted Skin. This was big this season. Whether skin was dewy and glowing or natural and matte, it was also sculpted. Cheeks were defined; white highlight was applied to the temples and nose along with a little illumination at the cupid’s bow for definition.
Get the look: M·A·C Cream Color Base in Luna or Pearl and Shiseido ‘The Makeup’ Luminizing Satin Face Color in Wt905 High Beam White

4 – Perfectly Groomed Brows. These were present at most runway shows—whether strong and overstated or left au naturale—brows were perfectly brushed up and well kept.
Get the look: Clinique Brow Keeper or Bobbi Brown ‘Natural ‘ Brow Shaper & Hair Touch-Up

5 – Flushed Cheeks. A healthy, flushed look made its way to the runways. A heavy dose of blush and a little bit of a highlight on the apple of the cheeks mimicked the look of just coming in from a cold jog.
Get the look: Yves Saint Laurent ‘Voile de Blush’ Gel Blush in No.1

6 – A Less-Defined Eye. Many looks we saw backstage favored this approach. Eyeliner and sometimes mascara and shadow were skipped altogether in favor of an easy, more natural look. Achieve a less-defined eye by forgoing eyeliner. Instead, use an eyeshadow around the eye, or opt for fewer coats of mascara.
Get the look: M•A•C Eyeshadow in Cork, Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara

7 – Accented Nails. We saw the ordinary manicure elevated in two ways this season. One, transform your everyday manicure by adding a “French tip” to it in a bold, new shade. Or two, go vertical and accent the sides of your nail for a shaded effect.
Get the look: Deborah Lippmann Nail Color in Dark Side of the Moon for a base and Nefertiti for a gold tip.

8 – Vintage Hair. Hair went back in time this season with a vintage vibe—in some cases, even Victorian. Pinning the hair up in curls, and then unraveling it to give bounce and volume, was a common sight. Hair was also treated to give a distressed effect—for example, dehydrating it with a dry shampoo.
Get the look: Sultra ‘Bombshell’ Curling Iron and OSCAR BLANDI ‘Pronto’ Dry Shampoo Spray

This is always an exciting trip to pack for. As you can see, I love bright pops of sheer color on the lips. I also tend to go for illuminated cheeks and defined eyes with flirty lashes.

Nordstrom National Beauty and Fragrance Director, Cheri Botiz opens her bag of beauty tricks that keeps her looking fresh and flawless while running backstage at New York Fashion Week.

Cheri’s Report:

This is always an exciting trip to pack for. Usually I travel with mini sizes of my favorite items, but this time around, I am going to try a few new items while in NYC for Fashion Week.

1 – All of my skincare essentials fit into my Clarisonic travel bag, but there are so many cute cosmetic cases out there, it’s hard to choose!

2 – I’m packing the new philosophy purity gel to try with my can’t-live-without CLARISONIC ‘Mia’ brush to cleanse my face and take off my eye makeup. I know I will love this new gel formulation; it’s already a cult favorite.

3 – My favorite deodorant is DERMAdoctor Antiperspirant. It protects me from perspiring throughout the whole day, helps reduce hair growth, and brightens the skin under my arms.

4 – I am going to test the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Concentrate. I keep hearing amazing things about it; I cannot believe I have not tried this yet.

5 – Applying the Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Lip Silk day and night helps keep my lips hydrated and reduces feathering by softening the look of fine lines.

6 – I am packing the new NARS Tinted Moisturizer (a Nordstrom exclusive). With SPF 30 and a hint of color, all I can say is that I love this item.

7 – I bring two serums (one for day and one for night)—a must for keeping my skin nourished during all the running around I do in the city. The new Dr. Dennis Gross Vitamin D Serum-Oil will keep my skin glowing by day, and at night, my go-to serum is Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair.

8 – Lastly, BABYBEARSHOP Cheeky Baby Butter keeps my hands and feet moisturized all day long. I get it from the Nordstrom Spa. This stuff is amazing, and you only need a little!

I’m so excited to share my list of can’t-live-without nail products and shades, but first, a couple of tips. For fall, almond is the preferred nail shape, and metallic colors are looking stunning in deep grays, reds and purples.

Also, you must try the new two-tone trend. Paint a moon shape in one color at the base of your nails and another color to cover the rest. So different and fun!

1 – Deborah Lippmann ‘Get This Party Started’ Set
This is a perfect quote from Deborah Lippmann about this set. $42 ($54 value)

2 – CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Rouge Carat
Add brilliance to your fingertips with must-have red from the runways of Paris. This is a state-of-the-art formula that is guaranteed to strengthen and moisturize nails. $25

3 – Estée Lauder ‘Pure Color’ Long Lasting Nail Lacquer in Ultra Violet
You must add this deep purple to your collection. Perfect from day to evening. Also, if you spend $35 or more, you will receive a free gift; so buy two. $19

4 Dior ‘Vernis – d’Or Collection’ Nail Lacquer in Or Divin
This is a glamorous metallic gold. You can wear this with anything. It’s a chip-resistant formula that protects and enhances the nails. $22

5 – M•A•C Manicure File
These are the perfect manicure files while you’re on the go. You will be able to smooth, buff and shape your nails in an instant. $7

6 Essie Nail Corrector Pen
You must get this! This pen instantly cleans up polish, so don’t worry about making mistakes. It’s also travel friendly. $14

7 – Yves Saint Laurent Nail Lacquer in Tuxedo Grey
YSL is right on trend with this creamy grey shade. It instantly makes your hand look polished and sophisticated. This is a great go-to color when you can’t decide what to wear. $20

8 – butter LONDON ‘The Tops & Tails’ Nail Set
Always use a base and top coat to make your nail color long-wearing and chip-resistant. $25 ($36 value)

Tip: Reapply topcoat after day two to extend the life of the polish.

NYFW Wrap-Up 3: Runway Beauty Trends

Cheri Botiz, Nordstrom National Beauty and Fragrance Director, takes you behind the scenes at the New York Fashion Week runways, highlighting the hottest trends in beauty for spring 2012 with tips to help you get the look right now!

1 – Glossy Eyes. It’s a beautiful, luminous look that makes the eye truly stand out and not look overdone. At Donna Karan, they achieved this by using a combination of lip conditioner and moisturizer.
Get the look: M·A·C Cream Color Base in Pearl | NARS Illuminator in Orgasm

2 – Antiqued Eyes. Rose golds with different shades of yellow and taupe made the eye very soft and wearable for the everyday woman. There was a mix of warm and cool that created an overall balance to the look.
Get the look: Bare Escentuals® bareMinerals® Eyecolor in Autumn | Estée Lauder ‘Pure Color’ Eyeshadow Palette in Bronze Dunes

3 – Stained Matte Lips. Matte lips are back from spring. Whether it be a reddish coral shade like we saw at Chris Benz, or a plum-nude like at Marc by Marc Jacobs, it was clear that the lips were blotted—almost as if there was meant to be just a soft stain.
Get the look: NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil in Bahama | Smashbox ‘Limitless’ Dual-Ended Lip Stain & Color Seal Balm in Berry

4 – Effortless Skin. Fresh, effortless skin is in! It’s a look that almost seems as if there is no makeup on. At Alexander Wang and Rachel Roy, the key to achieving that flawless look was having well-moisturized skin.
Get the look: CLARISONIC® Mia Cleansing System | Bobbi Brown ‘Skin Foundation’ Mineral Makeup SPF 15

5 – Strong Brows. At Marc Jacobs, in order to keep the focus on the eyes, we saw an emphasis on creating a frame around them, which is exactly what brows do to the face. They were bold and structured, much like the fashion.
Get the look: Anastasia Brow Pencil | Laura Mercier Eye Brow Gel

6 – Doll Lashes. Top and bottom, please! Volumized, extended and full-lash fringe for a wide-eyed, doll-lash look. It’s a fun and flirtatious spin on your everyday lash. Try adding a little powder to your lashes for extra thickness before you layer on the mascara.
Get the look: Lancôme Hypnose ‘Doll Lashes’ Mascara | Dior ‘Diorshow Extase’ Mascara

7 – The Natural Nail. Nothing is more chic than a natural, nude nail. The nails were short with a soft, round edge, and they had a slight iridescent shimmer to them. They didn’t compete with the boldness of the fashion, but rather complemented it. ‘Matchy-matchy’ is making a comeback in a sophisticated new way, too!
Get the look: Deborah Lippmann Nail Color in Believe | butter LONDON 3 Free Nail Lacquer in Tea with the Queen

8 – Twisted Hair. When it came to hair, the trend from spring 2011 continued with a deep side-part, which helps give shape. But the newest, most obvious hair trend for 2012 is the twist; it’s the new braid. We saw it everywhere and done every way. At Norman Ambrose, the hair was very clean and pinned tightly back. At Erickson Beamon, it was a more tousled look.
Get the look: Fekkai Extra Control Styling Gel | Living Proof Hold Humidity Blocking Flexible Hairspray for All Hair Types

Cheri’s August Beauty Picks

Hello everyone! It’s Cheri Botiz, Nordstrom National Beauty and Fragrance Director. Hope your summer is going well. It’s been awhile since my last post, so I thought I’d share some beauty essentials that are perfect for this time of year. With these products in your tote (or beach bag) it’s easy to look fabulous when you’re on the go. Fall may be just around the corner, but we still have a few weeks to enjoy the sun.

1 – One of my favorite new scents is Coach Poppy Flower, a vibrant citrus-fruity floral with notes that include sweet freesia, violet leaves, juicy grapefruit and tangy cassis. So chic!

2 – It’s pedicure season—and what better way to enjoy summer sandals than with a bright pop of color on your toes. Today I’m wearing Yellow Brick Road by Deborah Lippmann.

3 – I love products that are multi-taskers! Dr. T’s Supergoop!™ ‘MintFusion’ Lip Balm not only helps to keep lips soft and smooth, it’s also formulated with SPF 30 to protect against broad-spectrum UV rays—and freshens breath with cooling spearmint leaf oil.

4 – If you’re a shade lover seeking a sun-kissed look, ‘Alpha Beta Glow Pads’ from Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare™ offer a sunless tan formulation with beautiful natural-looking results (and anti-aging benefits to boot).

5 – For skin that looks ‘lit from within’ NARS makes a fabulous collection of light-reflecting illuminators that refresh your complexion with pretty shimmer.

6 – Want to enhance your tan or add a hint of sheer color? M•A•C Bronzing Powder is a smooth, long wearing formulation that’s perfect for all skin types.

7 – A mascara for ultra-glam lashes that won’t smudge when you’re making a splash—that’s a beach-worthy product that’s hard not to love. Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara is now in a waterproof version with 16-hour wear.
