Our latest fashion edition of The Realest features the smart and smiling baker and business owner Kate Sigel in some of our favorite spring dresses. To complement each outfit, hair and makeup artist Jenny Verador created a look that’s classic and clean, with just the right amount of strategically placed color.

For lips that evoke the feeling of spring without being overpowering, we brought all 12 shades from our new Nordstrom-exclusive collection of Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-in-Stick Lipsticks for Jenny to work her magic with. She was a fan of “the amazing color range with great color payoff and moisture.” Kate really loved how they felt, too. And we all loved their sweet hint of mango scent.

See the colors, makeup application and Jenny in action with our how-to video as she takes us through the steps and products she used to create this fresh and pretty makeup look for Kate.

For us makeup lovers, Halloween is a favorite night to get a little crazy with our brushes. Here at Nordstrom, we have an army of super-talented makeup artists and Beauty Stylists, so we met with a couple of them—along with some up-for-anything co-workers—for a mini photo shoot to create four Halloween makeup ideas. From amping up the volume on glam to letting the imagination (and eyeshadow) run wild, we’re sharing each this week to inspire getting into the spirit this October 31.

Pretty Halloween makeup idea: Doe, a Deer.

For our final Halloween look, Brooklyn Benjestorf—one of our pro copywriters—gets into the spirit with a fantastical doe, though this look could easily be transitioned into a number of creatures. Samantha Ruud, the artist who created this look, has all the steps to releasing your inner spirit animal.

Pretty, easy Halloween makeup idea: The classic red-lip bombshell.

Say hello to Ambra Washington, one of our marketing project managers. Lead artist Rachael Craig is back at it again waving her beauty wands into Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘The Bombshell’ look. A classic with Charlotte’s signature feline flick, this is another stunner that’s easy and versatile–throw on some cat ears or a devil’s tail, and you’re on your way to a beautiful Halloween. Boom!

Our second look goes rogue with Krista Fredricks, one of our web designers. The lead artist at our Charlotte Tilbury counter, Rachael Craig, took charge of turning up the volume on Tilbury’s ‘The Rebel’ look. A bold red lip amps it up without taking things too far, which makes it a perfectly versatile idea for almost any costume you can dream up. Team Tilbury has all the steps below for getting a little (or a lot) rebellious.

Halloween makeup ideas: pretty fairy slash Jem and the Rockers.

Our first look features the Twiggy-esque Katie Joy Blanksma. Our final result straddles the line between woodland fairy and a character from Jem and the Holograms. We love it. Our artist who created this look, Samantha Ruud, shares her steps and product recommendations for creating it yourself.

As Vice President of Sales and Promotions for Chantecaille, Alex Chantecaille has to travel the world as part of her job. We’re sure it’s not all glamorous jetsetting, but still. Sounds pretty fantastic! She also has a passion for practicing and promoting stewardship of our planet’s wilderness. It’s a trait that runs in her family–all of whom happen to play parts running the company started by Alex’s mother, Sylvie. And because it runs through the family that still runs Chantecaille, it also runs through the brand, which is known for raising awareness of important environmental concerns.

Alex Chantecaille took some time to tell us about the favorite places she discovered during a recent journey to Turkey and share information about how we can all get involved in protecting our natural resources; she also doled out tips on wearing Chantecaille’s most recent collection and (because we couldn’t resist asking) show us her adorable rescue pup, Ella.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
“Do what makes you fly”—from my mom.

That and “start swimming; stop running”—from a friend’s dad who is an ortho (it saved my knees!).

As a beauty expert, what’s the one question you get asked the most, and what do you say in reply?
Which cream/serum/eye cream do I use for night and which do I use for day? As we don’t specify Day or Night on Chantecaille skincare products this comes up a lot. The answer is: it depends on your skin type, needs, and where you live/will be using these products. Climate affects our skin a great deal; we often forget about that when buying a cream. It might be perfectly moisturizing while you’re in Scottsdale, Arizona for a golf trip, but too rich once you’re back home in the humidity of the Northeast.

Depending on your skin type, some creams are ideal for day, giving a boost of hydration and relaxing wrinkles; however, if you’re younger and oilier, this type of cream may be too rich for you. I’m always coaching my team to look and listen to the women in front of them. They need to address the very specific needs of that person and customize a personal regimen for her.

Leave it to Christian Louboutin—creator of the iconic red sole—to dream up a new classic. Last year, we went crazy for his innovative nail color and bottle design, and now we’re enamored with his newest innovation: lip color in three textures and lots of shades, all enrobed in an exquisitely designed case. (And we don’t use the word exquisite lightly.) Now that it’s available at Nordstrom, we couldn’t wait to try it out for ourselves, so the Beauty Blog took a few of these unique little lovelies down to a crew at Studio N.

The CHANEL Travel Makeup Palette is an all-in-one beauty powerhouse complete with eyeshadow, blush, foundation, lip color, mascara and three applicator brushes. To have a little fun with this versatile face palette, the Nordstrom Beauty Blog brought one to our crew at Studio N, where our in-house photographers, hair and makeup artists, art directors, models and scads of other colleagues all hustle to make editorial magic happen on the daily.

Sure, this Valentine’s Day you can do the whole gift-giving, date-night, sweety-poo thing with your boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, partner, lover, whatever you call him/her. Or (no matter your relationship status), we offer up this less conventional idea: see it as a perfect excuse to gather up your besties and indulge in a bring-all-your-favorite-things party.

To get the ball rolling, we asked around to see what some of our HQ cohorts would eat, drink, watch and treat themselves and friends to at a Valentine’s Day girls’ night in. Seeing all the favorites that these ladies would bring to share made us realize two things: 1. They know how to throw down for an epic party. And, 2. There should really be an official holiday to specifically celebrate how awesome friends are.
