As the executive director of education at La Mer, it’s Clyde Johnson’s job (and passion) to know everything there is to know about what’s best for your skin and how to achieve the results you’re looking for. We spent some time chatting (we really could have gone on all day) with Johnson about everything from rebooting your beauty regimen for the best possible outcomes to the science behind making the trademarked Miracle Broth, which goes into all La Mer products, so incredible and effective. Hint: the sound of rare kelp undergoing metamorphosis is vital to the process.

The Right Mud Treatment for Your Skin, the Best Eats in L.A. and More with GLAMGLOW Founders Glenn & Shannon Dellimoreon March 2, 2016
Back when it all started in 2010, GLAMGLOW was so exclusive it didn’t have a name and could be found only in mysterious plain containers at sound stages across Hollywood for use solely by makeup artists. With a cult following of celebrities who appreciated its ability to produce camera-ready skin in no time, word of mouth among industry insiders quickly reached the public and grew this “magic mud” into the super-popular line of treatments and cleansers we thankfully all have access to today.
Founders Glenn and Shannon Dellimore gave us some time to talk about their brand’s beginnings, which mud is right for any skin concern and their favorite places in Los Angeles, which they call home.
What’s the story behind GLAMGLOW? How did it all get started?
GLAMGLOW was born when Shannon and I were at a dinner party in the Hollywood Hills. That night, an actor friend confided he could not find a product to make his skin camera-ready in minutes—a product that could instantly refine pores, diminish visible imperfections, reduce fine lines and produce a noticeable glow that lasted for days. This became a topic of conversation and the verdict among fellow actors was unanimous. There was not a convenient, easy-to-use skin care product designed for instant camera-ready skin. With no background in skin care we set out to create a unique treatment for our friends armed with our imagination and a handful of willing celebrity test subjects. Extensive research led us to create a revolutionary formula that exceeded all expectations.

COMBINATION SKIN: Oily skin that lacks moisture is what I’ve had most of my life (symptoms: enlarged pores, oily T-zone, redness, slightly flaky skin at the chin, under the nose and upper cheeks). My secret combination infuses lightweight, nongreasy hydration into the skin while balancing out my oily but dry areas with vitamins and natural plant extracts. Here is my super easy and low-maintenance routine: 1) Using clean hands, apply a generous nickel-sized amount of Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask along with 3-5 drops of Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate to the face and neck (if applied thinly, you can sleep with this mask on). 2) Remove mask after 10-15 minutes with a clean, warm-water-soaked towel. 3) Apply my favorite Chantecaille Flower Harmonizing Cream for a naturally balanced glow day or night!
ALL SKIN TYPES: Lavender is an amazing natural anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and antidepressant ingredient. Here is my favorite super simple, 4-step luxurious lavender mask routine: 1) Using clean hands, gently remove makeup with peppermint/lavender oil–infused Lancer Face Polish. 2) Rinse off exfoliator, apply a generous nickel-sized amount of Fresh Rose Face Mask to the face and neck then wait 10-15 minutes. 3) Apply 5 drops of Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate to a warm-water-dampened towel to remove mask. 4) Apply Dr. Dennis Gross Oil-Free Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion Cream to the face and neck for a naturally happy, nongreasy complexion!
But imagine if Rob Lowe thought that way. There would be no Rob Lowe.
So in the interest of correcting this gross misunderstanding, Salgardo wrote Manmade, a book with grooming and skincare tips men can and should use right now–and which will keep them looking younger, longer. Perhaps you know a man who could use this in his life?
Salgardo told us all about the book on the phone. The conversation is below.
And if you happen to be in/near Seattle on December 11, meet up with Salgardo in our flagship store to talk about his book and knock back a cold one. The event is called, tantalizingly, Beards and Brew.

My perfect foundation look includes five products. After applying my skincare, I move on with a generous amount of the Laura Mercier Radiance Primer. This primer is amazing for any skin type and makeup application. You will look like you have a soft-focus lens on your face and beam with a soft glow. Blend all over the face with fingertips.
Next, I use the Amorepacific CC Compact in color 106. The CC compact is so wonderful! It has a powerful broad-spectrum SPF 50, is ultra hydrating and provides long-lasting, flawless coverage. I apply this compact with the Bobbi Brown Full-Coverage Brush.
Under my eyes, I first apply La Prairie Cellular Eye Essence Platinum Rare. This instantly lifts, firms and brightens–it’s perfect under any concealer! Then I use the new Dior Fix it 2 in 1 Prime & Conceal Concealer, two light swipes under each eye, then tap it in with your ring finger. This concealer has a built in primer, so it glides on flawlessly and provides excellent coverage that lasts all day.
Last, I set everything with the LaMer Translucent Setting Powder. This powder is light, luminous and so silky, so you can use a generous amount without a dry or chalky look. I apply my foundation everyday at 6am, and I am ready for my day, which starts by taking my 8 year old to school. Then I head to work, come home make dinner, help with homework, read a bedtime story…and before I know it, it’s 11pm, and I haven’t had a minute to look in the mirror until I’m ready to wash my face. But my foundation looks just good as when I applied it that morning!
Why is Rob Lowe smiling? Well, he’s 30-plus years into showbiz as a dramatic and comedic actor and nobody’s sick of him yet. He’s got twelve racks sitting pretty on his wrist. And he’s about to throw a perfect spiral.
But besides all that: Rob Lowe is smiling because he’s super stoked on his PROFILE skincare line. Far from a vanity project, PROFILE is a sincere labor of love. And it’s available exclusively at Nordstrom.
Mr. Lowe is literally stoked, as his character Chris Traeger on Parks and Recreation would say. On the phone he was chipper and came off like he had all the time in the world to chat (he did not; he was literally in the middle of filming his new TV show, The Grinder).
Read more below about Lowe’s favorite Chris Traeger line, which XM Radio station he plays while chillaxing in his pool—and why he’s 51 but looks 36.
During her pregnancy, Nordstrom Beauty Buyer Tawni Hart tried some homemade organic balm, and it was so good, she jumped at the chance to bring the product to Nordstrom. She tells us her story behind discovering the Redefining Body Balm from Tata Harper Skincare.
Tata Harper at her organic farm in Vermont
“This body balm is so special to me—it was born from a homemade version I created to keep my skin looking its best through my three pregnancies. This version contains some of the world’s most advanced toning and fortifying ingredients, and it’s a miracle for keeping stretch marks at bay. I’m so excited to share it with Nordstrom!” —Tata Harper
I met Tata Harper when I was four months pregnant with twin girls. My best friend had used her products and swore by them. Tata, a mom of three, said to me, “You have to use my body balm. It’s all homemade and truly organic. I’ll send it to you; just use it daily on your stomach to help with stretch marks and to keep your skin soft.” I thought, With twins I’ll try anything!

I admit it—sometimes I put my face above an open dishwasher just after it’s finished, close my eyes, enjoy the steam and imagine I’m in a fancy spa in the snowy mountains of Switzerland (this also works while steeping tea*…just be sure your face is clean, at a safe distance and you can assure any doubting onlookers that it’s all for your health).
With the overindulgent holidays behind us, we all feel a little over-glittered and a lot under-hydrated, so January is the perfect time to “plump up” your skin care (pun intended). Along with my “DIY facial,” here are a few other ideas that will help your skin detox, refresh, rehydrate and get prepped for spring beauty trends (kitchen steaming optional).
