As I celebrate my birthday today, it’s the perfect time to mention some favorite anti-aging products (and some that just make me feel or look younger than my 42 years!).

I started using sunscreen in high school (and am thankful I did; I shockingly still get carded sometimes). Also, I diligently follow my dad’s greatest ‘beauty’ advice, “keep a lip balm in every jacket pocket”–that has saved my lips more times than I can count! Ultimately, you’re truly as young as you feel, but a little ‘preventative maintenance’ and good old-fashioned primping never hurts. Nor does a glass of champagne and gourmet cupcake on your b-day…

We’re not all born with a sixth sense for shadows, creams and application methods, and even the best at-home wand-wielders find themselves at a cosmetics impasse every now and again. And sometimes, well, sometimes we just want a second opinion or a fresh set of eyes. Enter our Beauty Stylists. These skincare and makeup professionals are well-versed and experienced with all the lines we carry, and they have a client-focused, nuanced approach to helping you look and feel your best.

Case in point: Patricia Wolfkill, a 55-year-old former model and longtime fashion industry multitalent. Wolfkill visited Beauty Stylist Kristen Lawson at Nordstrom Bellevue Square and we were there to document what went down.

The goal: “I think as women age, the days of no makeup and/or too much makeup end,” Wolfkill told us. “I think the biggest concern for women of a certain age is to use a light hand, but in such a way as to create some of the facial contours that diminish with age. In addition to the issue of sagging or drooping skin, the texture of the skin changes. It’s key to use makeup products that help restore—or appear to restore—that healthy, hydrated, smooth skin of our youth. That’s the goal. At least that’s my goal.”

Currently reading T Magazine with Tina Turnbow’s scoop on Chloë Sevigny’s guest appearance tonight on NBC’s “Law and Order: SVU”. What caught our attention? Sevigny started dishing on her beauty go-tos! We couldn’t help but share her secrets for creating that signature, naturally flawless look—not to mention her newest favorite mascara.

From T Magazine:
What products do you use on [your hair]?
I use Oribe shampoo and conditioner, in that sleek black packaging. I’ve always been into Kiehl’s Formula 133. Lately I’ve also been liking Kérastase Mousse Volumactive.

When you do your makeup, what are your go-to cosmetics?
I use NARS concealer, because it’s soft and blendable. I prefer to use a color that is warmer in tone, because I don’t like when it looks too light around the eyes. I like YSL Touche Éclat because it brightens in a way that is not obvious or heavy. I also prefer products that are more matte, not shimmery or glittery. My favorite blush is by M•A•C. It’s a deep pink, but I use it so much the name has worn off! I like the NARS bronzing stick, in Cap Vert. M•A•C Mineralize powder is the best. And for my lips, sometimes I go with Lady Danger by M•A•C, an orangey red. First I apply their Prep and Prime Lip, to help the color stay in place and last longer.

Any tips on how to get lashes as long and lush as yours?
I’m definitely a lash girl. I feel they are my best feature. I have tried lots of mascaras. I was drawn to Lancôme Doll Lashes recently. Not only because of the name, but it smells like roses!
