BP. Fashion Board Applications

Hello all of you glorious, fashion-fascinated lasses and lads! Good news: The application period for the 2014-2015 BP. Fashion Board opened yesterday. What’s the Fashion Board, you ask? The Fashion Board is a group of high-school students that meets once a month at your local Nordstrom BP. department. At the meetings you get to go behind the scenes in the fashion industry, connecting with fashion pros and making stylish friends your own age.

Part of the application process requires you to complete a fashion project. Last year I created a leather-bound lookbook of some of my favorite outfits, and decorated it with fake flowers, confetti stars and sketches. To inspire you as you consider your own application project, here are a few shots from my 2013 masterpiece:

The first section of my lookbook was a vintage-inspired spread featuring my letterman jacket and velvet loafers. The movie Super 8 inspired me to take pictures down by the train tracks with me holding my own super 8 camera.

The second section was inspired by Marc Jacobs. Here I showed my more Margot Tenenbaum-y side (who, as we all know, is the daily inspiration for my life).

I encourage you to apply for the fashion board, it is truly an incredible experience that allows you to make wonderful connections and friendships. Be inspired by your fashion icons and favorite movies, and put your heart into your fashion project.

Remember, the application period is open now! Find out more about the Fashion Board and get ready to apply.

Stay golden,

I will be in High School next year and I’d really like to be a part of the BP Fashion Board do you or any of the other bloggers have tips to make it?

  • Lily February 22, 2014, 11:02 pm

Hi Catherine! First of all, the Fashion Board is awesome and the one general tip I can give you is to really put effort into your application project- showcasing yourself and your style. Think about WHY you like fashion- the editorials and runways or artistic expression or whatever- and incorporate that into your app. For example, take pictures for your project if you like fashion photography, your enthusiasm will show in the product!
Other than that, I’d just give you general application tips (choosing recommenders who know you best, “encapsulating your individuality” etc.). B.P. will definitely appreciate any extra effort and uniqueness you put into your application!
Good luck 🙂 Let me know if you need more help!

Okay so I reeeeally want to be a part of this program, but I just found out about it and missed the application deadline by 2 months. 🙁
I’m currently a junior in high school, graduating in late May of 2015. With that said, would I be able to apply for this NEXT year and be a part of the fashion board for the remainder of my time in high school? In other words how long is a full “year” of being a part of the board?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor May 5, 2014, 10:36 am

Oh, Mikayla, I’m so sorry you missed the deadline! 🙁

It sounds like the timing isn’t going to work out for you to participate in the Fashion Board. If you applied next year, you’d be getting your acceptance letter around the time you graduate and you’d be out of school by the time the new year started. The Fashion Board year runs from August – May.

  • Leslie June 13, 2014, 5:07 pm

I missed the deadline. I have been so busy and I did not know when the applications came out this year. Do you know when new applications come out? I really want to sign up for next year!

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor June 19, 2014, 3:30 pm

Sorry, Leslie! New applications will come out in February of 2015. We’ll announce it here on the BP. blog, so stay tuned, ok?

  • Sophia Mack August 29, 2014, 7:05 pm

Hey! I applied online for the next year, do I need another application? And how can I turn in my fashion project and where ?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor August 30, 2014, 11:22 am

Hi, Sophia! The application process for this is closed for our U.S. Fashion Boards. Only the Calgary store (in Canada) is accepting applications right now. Next year’s application period opens in February of 2015. 🙂

  • Jordan Alperin September 5, 2014, 6:00 pm

Hi! I am a freshman now and I just found out about the BP Fashion Board. I am in a Fashion Design class in school and I am very interested in fashion. I made an account and signed up on the website for next year…I was wondering when will the applications be out and what they are looking for in your collage/photo album.Thank you so much:)

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor September 9, 2014, 11:45 am

Hi, Jordan! Applications for our U.S. Fashion Board will come out in February. In your collage/photo album, we’re looking for a genuine interest in fashion and a sense of your personal style. Hope that helps!

  • Liana October 26, 2014, 1:21 pm

How do I submit my collage/ photo album?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor October 27, 2014, 9:31 am

Hi, Liana! Are you trying to apply for membership to the Fashion Board? The application process will open in the spring (2015), so just ask your local Fashion Board coordinator when you can submit your project. Love that you’ve already gotten started on it!

  • Jasmine November 28, 2014, 11:13 pm

  • olivia January 27, 2015, 5:27 pm

i am very very interested in joining the BP fashion board! i am a Junior and high school and absolutely love fashion and shopping (especially at nordstrom) how hard is it to get accepted to the BP fashion board?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor January 29, 2015, 11:58 am

Hi, Olivia! It’s not hard to join the Fashion Board – you just need to meet the requirements outlined on the Application Page. Hopefully we’ll see you in meetings soon!

  • Eileen Tak January 31, 2015, 10:42 am

So how can I apply? I’m a freshman going into my sophomore year, and I really want to be part of this board!!

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 2, 2015, 10:20 am

Eileen, it’s easy! Just stop by your local Nordstrom BP. department and ask for an application.

  • Grace February 9, 2015, 9:14 am

Hello! I’m very interested in the BP fashion board at Nordstrom and am willing to apply soon. I was wondering if there are any emails that get sent out daily for bp news or anything of that sort. Where can I sign up if so?

  • Anon February 9, 2015, 8:25 pm

What all exactly did you include in your lookbook because I’m considering making one but I haven’t in so long and I’m starting to forget how to make one.

  • Danielle February 10, 2015, 10:32 am

Hello, when does the U.S. 2015 application come out and how can I access it?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 11, 2015, 6:23 pm

Hi there! Lily doesn’t blog for us anymore (our bloggers rotate out every school year, and Lily wrote this post last year), so she can’t answer your question. As for what you should put in your lookbook: Your best bet is to come up with a single theme and find (or make!) pictures to illustrate it.

Some good example themes are: a single color, a single style (sporty looks, spring dresses, etc.), or a report of what’s trending (one or two pictures for each trend – boho, normcore and sporty are big right now)

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 12, 2015, 3:27 pm

Applications will be available February 19 at your local Nordstrom BP. department.

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 19, 2015, 3:20 pm

Hi, Grace! We don’t have a daily BP. newsletter, but once you join the Fashion Board you’ll get all kinds of insider information. 🙂

  • Kiersten February 19, 2015, 4:02 pm

How do you apply for the fashion group?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 19, 2015, 4:23 pm

Kiersten, you can apply online here.

  • Kaitlyn Weekman February 19, 2015, 4:29 pm

hi!! i just filled out and submitted the online application for the 2015/2016 board! The application i filled out basically only asked me for general contact info, my GPA, and how i found out about the program. is that the only application and is it the same as the application you can get from a local Nordstrom store? also, may you please explain to me the fashion project, and what we do with our fashion project (where/how/when do we submit it?). I’m sorry for all of the questions I’m just so curious and so excited about this wonderful opportunity! thank you so much for your time 🙂

  • Caitlyn February 19, 2015, 7:26 pm

I’ve submitted the online application, but how should I submit my fashion project?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 20, 2015, 2:15 pm

Hi, Kaitlyn! We love your curiosity and excitement. As they say in school, there are no bad questions. I just found out that we no longer have applications in the stores – the ONLY application is the online application that you have already filled out. So you’re totally good.

You’ll get more information about the fashion project when you receive confirmation for your interview. You’ll turn it in at your interview. But in case you want to get a head start (;) ), here’s a short piece about it: We want to see what you love about fashion. Are there certain trends or looks you like? Do you admire your friend’s sense of style or have a celebrity style icon? This is your time to show us your style, so get creative! Tear out looks from magazines. Take snapshots of your friends. Make a collage. Design a poster. Create a photo album. Whatever you’d like! (There are just a few ideas to get you going, so have fun!)

Please include your name, address, email and phone number on the back of your project.

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 20, 2015, 2:17 pm

Caitlyn, I’m pretty sure you’ll submit your fashion project at your interview – but things sometimes vary from store to store. When you receive the call to confirm and schedule the interview, check with the coordinator to make sure you should bring it with you.

  • Madeline Hawkins February 21, 2015, 12:35 pm

Hello, I can’t find the online application! Where is it located? is it now called fashion ambassador?

  • Cristina Fontana February 21, 2015, 2:27 pm

hi, I am really interested in this program!! Im a sophomore and I love fashion!!! I was wondering where I could find the application to become part of the fashion board? Thank you!!!!

  • Madeline February 22, 2015, 7:13 am

hello, I received an email saying my application was submitted but I was never asked about an interview… it said “You will be contacted via email by May 16, 2015 regarding your submission.”

  • Anonymous February 22, 2015, 4:07 pm

Hi, I was applying for the fashion board via the link that was put in the comments section. And I realized that there is no location for the Nordstrom in my area. Does that mean that this program doesn’t apply to all the local Nordstrom stores?

  • Holly February 23, 2015, 11:04 am

I just submitted my application online. How long until I receive a phone call to schedule the interview? And is the fashion project (collage, book, etc.) due the same day as the interview?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 23, 2015, 11:38 am

Hi, Madeline! When you are contacted (by May 16), you will be able to schedule and discuss the interview portion of your application process with your coordinator.

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 23, 2015, 11:41 am

Hello, there! Unfortunately, we are no longer supporting the Fashion Board in every store. To be on the safe side, it’s a good idea to call or stop by the BP. department in your local store to see whether they will have a program in the fall.

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 23, 2015, 11:43 am

Hi, Holly! You’ll receive a confirmation email that will include a “call-by” date (the date we’ll call you by). When you receive that phone call, you can double-check about the due date for your fashion project. Sometimes the due dates vary, depending on what your local coordinator has in mind for the group.

  • Cecilia Huerta February 25, 2015, 8:46 pm

So can I do this program the summer going into high school or do I have to be in high school to do this program? And what r the benefits of doing this program if I want to be a Fashion Designer?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 26, 2015, 9:40 am

Cecilia, you need to be starting either your junior or senior year of high school to be a Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador.

For future fashion designers, the Fashion Ambassador program offers an invaluable understanding of the the business side of fashion: designing to established trends in the marketplace, how retail buyers pick which items they want to stock in their stores, how to showcase your merchandise so that it’s attractive to customers (both wholesale and retail), …the list goes on and on!

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 26, 2015, 9:45 am

Madeline, you are correct! The program is now called Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador, and you can find the application online here.

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor February 26, 2015, 9:46 am

Cristina, you can find the application right here.

  • Erika March 2, 2015, 6:07 pm

The red letters above that say ” Find out more about the Fashion Board and get ready to apply.” takes me to the Nordstrom home page when I click on it so how do I apply?

  • Erika March 2, 2015, 6:08 pm

Oh never mind sorry, just found it in the comments

  • Sarah March 10, 2015, 7:29 pm

Hello, hope you all are doing well! I have just submitted my online application for the 2015-2016 year. It just has the basic information, and I was wondering when the fashion project was due. I read above at the previous comments, and it was said that we would turn it in on the day with the interview. I wanted to begin the fashion project now, but on the application it said that they were due on April 21st, so is that saying the fashion project is just due then or only the online application or both? And is it possible to turn in the fashion project in video form? If so how would we turn that in? Thank you all, and I’m sorry for all the questions, I just want to be sure I have all the right information!(:

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor March 12, 2015, 4:36 pm

Sarah, these are great questions and we love your enthusiasm. You’ll learn everything you need to know about your project when your coordinator calls you to set up an interview. 🙂

  • Annie April 15, 2015, 7:30 pm

I have a question. Since the program goes from August 2015- May 2016, I’m going to go on vacation in August for the whole month, would it be all right to miss one seminar? I don’t want to go through that whole process of actually getting into it and then getting out because of missing one. Thanks for your help:)

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor April 16, 2015, 10:01 am

Hi, Annie – It’s usually fine if you miss a meeting. Just check in with your coordinator to arrange to catch up on any information you might miss while you’re gone.

  • candace reyes May 12, 2015, 8:04 pm

I’m so upset, I just found out about this and missed the deadline. I really wish I could do it and I’m going to be a senior next year so it won’t benefit me as much. would you happen to know any programs that are similar to this??

  • Sophia May 14, 2015, 4:15 pm

Hello! I was just recently notified of my interview for the ambassador program. It said on the email to bring with me an Authorization and Release form. What is that? Was that apart of the application? Thanks for your help.

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor May 15, 2015, 10:00 am

Sophia, look through your application materials to see if you have that form. If you can’t find it, contact your program coordinator (at your local store) to get another one. Worst-case scenario: You can get one on the day of your first meeting. 🙂

  • Brooke May 15, 2015, 3:06 pm

On my email, it said that I would be notified by May 16th regarding my application. If I don’t receive any information, does that mean that I did not get in or should I call my local Nordstrom? Thank you.

  • Carli May 18, 2015, 12:58 pm

Hello! Are there any guidelines for the fashion project? If so, what are they?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor May 18, 2015, 2:21 pm

Hi, Brooke! Just call your local Nordstrom and they should be able to help you out.

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor May 18, 2015, 2:22 pm

Hi, Carli! Check in with your local store – your coordinator will be able to tell you everything you need to know.

  • Carli May 18, 2015, 4:39 pm

Where can I find the authorization and release forms?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor May 19, 2015, 3:56 pm

Check with the coordinator at your local store, Carli. They should have extra copies of everything you need.

  • Tara May 20, 2015, 10:36 pm

Hi:) Has the application for the 2015/2016 school year been put out yet or was it due a long time ago? I would love to take part in this internship is it still available?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor May 21, 2015, 11:10 am

Hi, Tara! The application period closed a while ago, but you should contact your coordinator at your local store (usually the manager of the BP. (or Topshop/Trend department) and see if you can squeak in.

  • Eileen May 24, 2015, 4:55 pm

Hi! So is there like any outline to the fashion project, or is it like a way to show off your personality?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor May 26, 2015, 11:39 am

Eileen, there’s no formal outline beyond what you’ve already received (hopefully!) from your coordinator.

  • Anonymous June 23, 2015, 12:49 pm

How long do you have to wait for them to tell you that you’ve gotten it or not? Thanks!

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor June 26, 2015, 10:29 am

Hi there! You can expect to hear from your coordinator within 6-8 weeks of submitting your application AT THE LATEST. If you applied for the Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador program by the deadline and still haven’t heard back, contact your local BP. department manager and see if they received your application.

  • Shannon Long July 21, 2015, 10:43 am

Hi! I am looking into applying for the BP Fashion Board for 2015-2015! Where can I find the application? Are there any restrictions surrounding the application?
    Thank you so much!

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor July 24, 2015, 3:48 pm

Shannon, the application period for 2015-2016 has already closed! Check with your BP. department manager in February of 2016 to apply for the 2016-2017 year. 🙂

  • nikki August 2, 2015, 10:09 pm

Hi! I’m very interested in this, when will the applications come out for the 2016 year? and is this the same as fashion ambassadors?

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor August 3, 2015, 11:16 am

Hi, Nikki! Yep, the BP. Fashion Board has become the Nordstrom Fashion Ambassador program. Look for those applications in February of 2016.

  • layla August 3, 2015, 6:02 pm

will the project for the 2016 program be similar to the ones in the past? in case I’d like to get a head start in December/January

  • Amy Leigh, Blog Contributor August 10, 2015, 11:14 am

Hi, Layla! I love your energy and interest! We’re making some changes to the program, but nothing’s set in stone yet. You’ll just have to sit tight and wait for your coordinator to roll out the new curriculum. 🙂

  • Briann green August 26, 2015, 6:46 pm

Hi is the Bp fashion board still continuing and if so how do I apply for it

  • Britt Olson August 27, 2015, 12:32 pm

Briann, hi. Thanks for your interest in the BP. Fashion Board. We are discontinuing this program, but there are other ways students can pursue a fashion career with Nordstrom. Visit our Student Center to learn more: http://about.nordstrom.com/careers/#/student-center

  • Sydney September 15, 2015, 7:23 pm

Hi. I was just wondering when the application for this year will be coming out. Thank you

  • Kamilah S. Graham November 24, 2015, 12:20 pm

Hello, I would like to know more about how to apply and the activities that are involved.

  • Keanya November 30, 2015, 12:07 pm

Hi, im currently a senior in hs and am able to have an early graduation in January due to having all of my credits. (My official graduation isnt until June but ill be out of school in January) I’ll be going straight to college in January and was wondering if the opportunity will still be open to me?

  • Sarah February 3, 2016, 12:17 am

I don’t have marks higher than 75%, and I know thats one of the requirements. Is there any chance I could still be accepted? Our second semester just started so I’m hoping my marks improve this semester so could I wait until I get marks for this semester and then hand in my high school transcript?

  • Grace February 29, 2016, 3:32 pm

Hello! I just submitted my application for the 2016-2017 fashion ambassador program. How do I turn in my project? Do I wait until I am given an interview?

  • Sarah April 18, 2016, 7:23 pm

Hi I’m very interested in being part of the fashion board! I was told in my application submission email that I would be contacted by April 18th to set up my inter view, but I haven’t heard anything. Does this mean I didn’t get chosen?

  • Alyson September 6, 2016, 4:34 pm
