Caroline’s Guide to Gifting

While the hunt for the perfect Christmas gift can be exciting and fun, it can also be a bit stressful, especially when you have six different besties (like me) who all have completely different personalities. Oh ’tis the season for givin’!

1. Techy Chick
We all know (and love) this girl. She’s constantly on her phone tweeting every detail of her life and her hunt for the latest and greatest apps can come quite in handy. No doubt she’s had a couple run-ins in the school halls while updating her profile pic but, hey—if she’s happy, we’re happy.

2.Girly Gal
This girl gets ready for school every day and struts through the halls like they’re her runway. Anything pink and sparkly is a must and if the lip gloss ain’t poppin’ she’ll be stoppin’ (to re-apply of course).

3.Boho Babe
And lastly we have the boho chick. She loves outdoor concerts, long hikes in the forest and can always be expected to have the coolest new indie jams playing on her iPod. But don’t be mistaken, this gal’s effortless hipster wardobe doesn’t come without some…well…effort.

See, finding the perf gift isn’t as hard as you thought. Just remember, it’s the thought that really counts and when in doubt, give ’em food, haha. 🙂 Happy hunting!

Yours truly,

My Top 5 Mother’s Day Gifts

To help you girls on your search for the perfect Mother’s Day gift, I put together a list of some of my mom’s favorites! Here they are:

1. NARS Contour Blush: This is a great gift if your mom loves makeup and is always looking for ways to turn back the hands of time. (I mean, what mom doesn’t want to look younger?) It gives a subtle, radiant glow and really pops those cheek bones!

2. CHANEL Lévres Scintillantes Glossimer: This is my mom’s go-to gloss (as you can tell by the nearly empty tube)! She keeps one in her bathroom, one in her purse and one in a car. This peachy shade, #43, complements most skin tones. My mom is blond, blue-eyed, and pretty fair-complected, and I’m obviously brunette, green-eyed, and more on the olive side, but this gloss looks great on both of us!

3. Miss Dior Eu de Toilette: For about five years, my mom was obsessed with this perfume. However, she has recently switched it up to BVLGARI Omnia Crystalline. They’re both light, lovely scents.

4. Kate Spade New York ‘Holly Street- Lacey’ Wallet: I just think this wallet is so cute! The black-and-white combination keeps it timeless, and the bow adds an adorably girly touch. Plus, who doesn’t love a little Kate Spade?!

5. Turquoise Statement Necklace: The necklace is actually a vintage turquoise piece that my grandmother passed down to my mom. While real turquoise is probably outside most of our budgets, I’m sure your mom would still enjoy a faux turquoise necklace as a trendy statement piece.

Happy shopping and happy almost Mother’s Day to all you amazing moms out there!

Happy GALentine’s Day!

What’s Galentine’s Day? Well, I’ll just let everyone’s favorite civil servant, Leslie Knope, explain:

“Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home and just kick it breakfast style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas!”

Galentine’s Day is the day to celebrate the overwhelming love you feel for your gal pals. My friends and I celebrated Galentine’s early this year. We got dressed up and went out to brunch, bearing gifts and full hearts.

I wore my red skirtwhite top and red lipstick—and my pals all looked fab! We all brought little gifts for one another, and although they weren’t as thorough as Leslie’s, they were pretty great.

I got each of my ladiez a red or pink cactus, equipped with a plant-related pun and heart shaped note. These gifts were super easy and fun to make.

Pink kate spade new york clutches, Snickers bars and charm necklaces were all in attendance. TSwift, Beyonce and other awesome independent and intelligent ladies were spiritually present, as well.

And of course, even though it was an afternoon to celebrate the ladies and the Galentine’s lurvee, Leo and Harry had to show up.

Leave the lads at home and focus on your lady loves this February 13th!

Stay Golden,

Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

Valentine’s Day is exactly two weeks away and I always like to plan ahead a little and buy my gifts early. I personally believe that Valentine’s Day should be a day to spoil your loved ones with sweets, gifts and fun times together. I created three separate gift guides for some of the most important people in our lives: best friend, mom and boyfriend.

I normally get each of my closest friends something small for Valentine’s Day. I think jewelry (like this bracelet) or a cute new makeup bag or quirky purse are just the right presents to give the bestie without breaking the bank.

These are all things I know my mom would love to receive on Valentine’s Day. She’s always wearing the Me to We bracelet that I gave her a few months ago (we have matching bracelets!) so I know she’d be thrilled to get a new one. My mom would also appreciate a new iPad case or adorable new crafting supplies such as this stamp and ink set.

I think boyfriends or significant others are the most difficult people to buy gifts for. Keeping it sweet and simple is the way to go, in my opinion. Cozy beanies are a foolproof gift, along with a new messenger bag in his favorite color. A special, more sentimental gift would be a camera like this neat one from the new Pop-In Shop. It’s the gift that keeps on giving because you can use it to capture all of your fun memories together!

3 Nifty Ways to Wrap a Gift

Ever since Thanksgiving, I’ve been caught up in a present-buying, gift-wrapping frenzy. Whether you’re giving Christmas gifts to your family, Secret Santa gifts to your classmates, or just a regular old “You’re a Great Pal” gift, use these photos to guide you toward a creative way to wrap your little treasures.

My personal motto is: When in doubt, use more glitter. My photo doesn’t do this fancy foil wrapping paper justice. It looks silver, but when the light hits it, you can see rainbow shimmer. I cut out some hearts out of glitter paper, which is a perfect way to dress up a plainer wrapping paper.

If you want to go a little bit more rustic with your gift wrapping, try adding a big lacy doily! I just taped this down over my adorable red and white toadstool paper. For an extra touch, I arranged some little pine branches on top of the present.

My personal favorite way to wrap a gift is with an old map. Fancy maps can be found at any craft store, but I found this Oregon map in my mom’s car. Then, I tied a big bow with some antique lace to give this box the perfect vintage vibe.

Good luck on your present-wrapping endeavors!

HolidDIY: Sweet & Simple Gift

Normally I try to keep all of my content on this blog fashion-related, but I just had to share this sweet and simple cookie jar gift idea. I love to bake, I love the holidays and I love DIYs, so why not combine them all? This gift would be perfect for your parents, your teacher or as a Secret Santa gift.

The first thing you’ll need to do is mix together a few dry ingredients. In a bowl, combine 1 + 1/3 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and ¼ teaspoon of salt.

Now it’s time to start layering in a one-quart canning jar:

  1. 1. Flour mixture
  2. 2. One cup of old-fashioned oats
  3. 3. One cup of holiday M&Ms
  4. 4. 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup of regular sugar

Once you’ve neatly layered all the ingredients, twist on the cap and decorate your jar with cute ribbons. Don’t forget to add a tag with instructions on how to make the cookies!

Mix with one egg, ½ cup melted butter, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Shape into balls and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes.

Happy holidays!

Gifting on a Budget

To get in the holiday spirit, my fashion board decided to do a gift exchange for our December meeting. When I first heard this news, I was super excited to go shopping for my buddy—until I realized there was a budget. I absolutely love buying gifts, so I almost always overspend on my friends, but I took the budget as a personal challenge. Of course the first stop on my gift hunt was the BP. department. It was a complete success: I was actually able to get a couple of things for my buddy and still stay within our fifteen dollar limit (I’m seriously so proud of myself). Whether you have to work within a gift exchange budget, have a bunch of friends to buy for, or are simply low on cash, here are my holiday picks to stretch your dollar further!

Socks, hats, scarves, oh my! These gifts are perfect for the girl that spends the majority of her winter next to the ski lodge’s fireplace. While she’s sipping hot cocoa, she might as well spend a little quality time with Ryan Gosling (he’s beautiful).

We all have that one friend that is constantly on YouTube watching beauty tutorials. Fishtail braids, winged liner, ombre nails—you name it, she’s tried it (and maybe even mastered it). This girl is what I like to call my beauty babe. She’ll appreciate any one of these gifts. If you have a little extra money, I think it would be super cute to pack the cosmetics case with a bunch of makeup goodies to create a personalized beauty kit.

So you know that girl that walked into a pole and got a black eye because she wouldn’t look up from her phone? These tech-friendly picks are for her. The fox iPhone case and the Ear Poms would be a supercute pairing.

Graduation Gifts

This is the point in the year where I become happy and sad all at the same time. It’s that time when all of the seniors are graduating from high school.

I know that I’m going to miss my friends so much, but I also know that they are about to begin an amazing adventure. It’s the best opportunity to give them something to take with them for the years to come, and I have some ideas for every person and budget.

1. Wristlet
These are essential for a girl on the go! It’s the most stylish way to store your phone, keys, ID and lipgloss.

2. Statement Necklace
This is a hot piece for the upcoming summer. I love to pair a statement necklace with a plain shift dress. It’s simple and beautiful.

3. Scarf
This is another way to make a statement for the summer. The lightweight material and pattern make it wearable for warmer weather. Definitely a closet staple.

4. Satchel
These carry-alls truly are essential for a college girl. She can store her pencils, notepads, tech devices and everything else she needs!

[Editor’s note: We’ve unexpectedly sold out of this particular satchel, but we have an impressive selection of gift-worthy satchels under $100 here.]

5. Cute Blouse
This is a graduation gift she can use during the summer and well into her college years. A fun blouse is a great way to make an impression on any new people she meets.

I hope you found some inspiration for your graduation gifts this year!

Stay generous,
