In terms of shoes for formal occassions, I tend to go very simple, allowing my dress to take the spotlight. If you’re like me and love to rock fabulously patterned, brightly colored, or glitzy dresses to events such as prom, then these heels are for you!

Converse Pop-In @Nordstrom

The latest Nordstrom pop-in shop features Converse! Converse high-tops are my favorite shoes. Their classic American feel keeps me longing for baseball games and singing, “Thunder Road.” The new pop-in shop features new screen prints and styles. If you’re lucky enough to live near a Nordstrom store that has a pop-in shop, you can even customize your own pair of sneakers at an in-store event.

Here’s a look at two of my favorite pairs of Chucks from the shop:

 Floral Chuck Taylors

I love these floral high tops! They’re unique and, more importantly, purple, which is far underrepresented amongst shoe colors. They’d look fab with a skater dress or black jeans, perfect to wear to a concert on a spring day.

Pastel Chuck Taylors

These pastel Chuck Taylors are like, the ideal American shoe. They could be worn with a flannel and blue jeans everyday for the entirety of a cross-country road trip. They’d look good dusty or muddy or worn out—they’re your go-to sneaker for everyday activities.

Season Staple: Caged Sandals

SHOP: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

This spring, I’m lusting after caged sandals. I especially love them in a cognac or caramel tone. They’re the perfect mixture of boho, edgy and chic. They pair perfectly with tribal harem pants, a floral midi skirt or even a fabulously daring jumpsuit. I confess that I already bought the Dolce Vita ‘Shandy’ Sandals (#2 in the photo layout above), and I’m absolutely obsessed– I plan to wear them everyday that it isn’t pouring down rain.

Featuring: TOMS ‘Classic-Jonathan Adler’ Slip-On | Levi’s ‘501’ High Waist Denim Cutoff Shorts

To usher in the new season, Jonathan Adler and TOMS teamed up to create a lovely collection of springy footwear. Jonathan Adler is first and foremost a potter, and his shoes’ patterns reflect this simple, geometric aesthetic that was first born on the wheel. Each pair of slip-ons has its own playful personality, but they’re all equally versatile—every pair can easily transition from boho to preppy (which is definitely not an easy task). Since I’ve been into the effortless vibe lately, I styled mine in a more relaxed manner with cutoffs and crochet, but I could also imagine them being worn with a silky blouse and a pair of white linen shorts. I personally can’t wait to wear these adorable slip-ons this spring break whether I’m going out to lunch or walking along the waterfront!

Trend Alert: Slip-Ons

My days of wearing ankle booties have come and gone, and now I’ve moved on to a new shoe obsession: slip ons. We’re all guilty of owning a beat-up pair of Vans or Converse that we can’t seem to get rid of because they’re so darn comfy. News flash: Shoe designers everywhere are updating the classic Vans slip-on style for spring in new textures such as faux croc skin and faux pony hair, so that you can be comfortable but look chic, too.

This dynamic duo is combining all of my favorite spring trends: slip-ons, full skirts, chic sweatshirts and holographic sunglasses.

OOTD: Mary Janes

I got a fantastic pair of Mary Janes at Nordstrom last week, and they’re the inspiration for my OOTD! I love the grungy feel that makes them easy to dress up or down. Today I decided to dress my new shoes and tulle skirt down for school by pairing them with an army-green jacket and white long-sleeve crop top.

I posed for this shot right before heading out the door for school. Try this comfy and cute OOTD the next time you want to add some sophisticated grunge to your school day.

OOTD: Black with a Touch of Gold

“I love black because it affirms, designs, and styles” –Yves Saint Laurent, Elle magazine Spring-Summer 1968. Forty-five years later, this still holds true. Black is somehow simultaneously timeless yet modern, sophisticated yet edgy, and flattering yet fabulous. There’s a certain paradoxical element to it. After all, how can the absence of color somehow be considered one of the most universal “colors” of all time?

My love of black inspired my outfit of the day. Of course I had to add a couple of my favorite gold accent pieces to keep it interesting (and avoid looking like a stagehand). I love subtle details with an edge; this look does a great job of capturing that element of my style.

Get the look: Lush ‘The Juliette’ Woven Tee | Topshop High Waist Ponte Skinny Pants

The button-embellished riding pants are definitely the focal point of the look. I personally love high-waist pants because they accentuate curves. (I’m not afraid of my hips, and neither should you be!) Bonus: you can wear them with all your crop tops without freezing to death.

Featuring: Titanium Two Face Watch

Since the body of the outfit is relatively plain, I felt the need to add some fun jewelry to pump things up a little. With its double faces, this watch is classic with a quirky twist (totally me!). I have one face set to regular ol’ Pacific Standard Time, and one face set to Hawaii time (my real home).

Featuring: Stephan & Co. Stone Stud Charm Necklace | Initial Heart Charm Necklace | Engraved Plate Charm Necklace

I also layered a few necklaces for a girly touch. I absolutely adore all the dainty charms trending in BP. Jewelry right now. The simple gold plate is probably my favorite because its simplicity is sort of unexpected.

Featuring: Halogen ‘Leesa’ Flat | Steve Madden ‘Panelope’ Bootie

For shoes, I decided to go with zip-up booties (I’m 5′ 0″ so I need the extra height), but the studded flats are a super-cute option if you’re looking for something a little more comfortable. You really can’t go wrong with black suede and gold detailing.

Do you love black or are you more of a pretty-in-pastel kind of girl? Post a picture on Instagram in your favorite color, and don’t forget to add #NordstromBP. This week I took my camera to school to document the latest hallway trends. What did I discover, you ask? Fall boots! Late October is an odd time—it’s that season in between Autumn and Winter where your feet are always cold but it’s too soon for moon boots. I understand.

So, apparently, do the girls at my high school. I found a bunch of girls who were styled for the chilly weather, staying cozy in adorable boots and sweaters, gleaming in linoleum hallway glory.

Alexis and Emma both wearing antiqued brown boots. Emma wears wool socks with her short boots. Remember that short boots aren’t limited to the summer, they look great with a cozy sweater.

I love these short black boots with their buckles and quilting. They add “pizzaz” to a jeans-and-cardigan outfit.

Lexi told me that she loves just throwing on her bright sweater with her tall black bootsblack jeans and black scarf to make her outfit “happier.” She says this is her typical fall day outfit.

Also, this girl was wearing cowboy boots (rare at my school in the PNW) and everything was amazing in the world.

That’s it for this hallway report. Have fun with your fall boots!

Lust List: Fall Shoes

I think every once in a while we deserve a little reward, right? The first of many weeks of school are under our belts and we only have months more to go. What better way to treat yourself than to a new pair of fab shoes? There are a few pairs that I’ve been lusting after recently—and so the lust list was created!

1. Steve Madden ‘Troopa’ Boot in Natural Leather
I already love my pair of trusty black Troopa boots from Steve Madden, but I think this beige pair is equally as wearable. The black boots are better for my more edgy days, whereas the beige Troopas would look great with a loose, white knit and a layered necklace for a more laid back, boho vibe.

2. Topshop ‘Monti’ cutout booties
I am absolutely in love with all things Topshop, so when I saw these boots, I knew I needed to have them in my life. Pairing vibrant socks with these booties will allow just the right amount of color to show through the side cutouts.

3. Dolce Vita ‘Pace’ suede wedges
I wouldn’t really consider myself a “wedges” person, but I have to say, I could get used to these! They are simple enough that they could be worn to school if you need a little boost.

4. Topshop ‘Nelson’ Platform Sandal
If I could pick any pair of shoes from this post to immediately buy and add to my shoe collection, it would be this pair. Never before have I seen a shoe so quirky yet so wearable at the same time! Don’t let the strange silhouette scare you—the platform makes these sandals totally comfortable.

5. Steve Madden ‘Repete’ Pewter Oxford
One of my all time favorite shoe brands is Steve Madden and I pretty much wear my oxfords every day. So you could say I was very excited when I saw this shoe! The pewter finish makes these shoes glam, but I would wear them with my regular white tee and dark wash jeans.

6. Converse Red High Tops
I remember when I was little, my younger brother had a pair of red high top Converse. Now that they’re coming back in style, I think we should get matching pairs! Converse are so spunky and cool. I’ve never owned a bright red pair of shoes before, so this would be the perfect addition to my growing shoe collection.

I just showed you six pairs of lust-worthy shoes for fall. But do you want to know the best part? Most of the shoes shown in this post are under $100! So now you can expand your shoe collection without breaking the bank.

If you end up treating yourself to a new pair of shoes this fall, don’t forget to post a picture on Instagram with the hashtag #NordstromBP.

My Top 6 Must-Have Shoes

Whoever said “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” obviously didn’t know me. As an avid collector of shoes, I can confidently say that there are certain types of shoes that every girl needs for her wardrobe to be complete.

You don’t need to own as many pairs as Nina Garcia (whose shoe closet is shown above) to have a complete collection. Just stick with these shoe staples, and you can’t go wrong:

1. Black or Nude Pumps

A pair of black pumps can carry you through life. They look good with everything from jeans to party dresses. Keep the height of the heel reasonable to ensure maximum usage.

2. Flat Sandals

A pair of simple sandals will go with almost every outfit you could imagine. The Sam Edelman Gigis are a great pair of essential sandals.

3. Ankle Boots

With or without heels, these stylish booties are perfect for all seasons. With jeans in the winter and shorts in the summer, a cute pair of ankle boots is essential.

4. Flats

Whether you opt for neutral or a pop of color, ballet flats add a polish to any outfit. These cap-toe flats are to die for.

5. Rain Boots

Whatever color you choose, you can’t go wrong. I just picked up a pair of Hunters this weekend, and I’m obsessed with them! (Kendi’s coral Hunters are some of my faves.)

6. Sneakers

As I’ve mentioned many times before, Converse are my all-time favorite sneakers. However, Keds and Vans can also give you the same effortless look.

If you don’t have at at least one pair of each of these shoes, you definitely need to go check out the new arrivals in the BP. shoe department!
