Along with the Grammys and the Oscars, I love to watch the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards. Of course, the award show itself is super-cool, but my favorite part is seeing what everyone is wearing. This year at the BET Awards, there was some pretty fabulous fashion:
Janelle Monaé rocked this all-white embellished Dolce&Gabbana pantsuit. This girl marches to the beat of her own drum, and she did it again with this stylish ensemble. (Janelle’s really working the all-white trend lately—remember her look from the last Friday Dance Party?)
Olympic superstar Gabby Douglas went for drama (and succeeded) with this ornate hi-low gown.
I love this royal blue color. It hasn’t quite caught on yet, but I’m thinking it will. Actress Meagan Good backed up my theory in this stunning blue gown.
Singer Brandy went for the all-white trend in this cool Michael Cinco dress.
OK. OK. I know rapper-turned-fashion-designer Pharrell Williams isn’t wearing anything that most teen girls would covet, but he’s well-versed in fashion. We’ve gotta give props to the guys who know their stuff.
See why I love the red carpet?
Red Carpet Fashion Awards
When we asked the Special Occasion buying team to pick their favorite red-carpet looks for prom 2013, they were thrilled. They picked the hottest trends from the Oscars, the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards, then picked paparazzi-ready prom dresses for your big night.

I will let you all in on a secret: I am a HUGE award-show fan. I love watching the red carpet coverage, celebrating when my favorites win, and yelling at the television when they don’t. Award season was kicked off with the People’s Choice Awards. While there were some fashion risk-takers, the majority of the starlets’ sartorial choices were lackluster. I was impressed by Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Hough, though.
While they are both relative newcomers on the award show circuit, they looked great. Julianne Hough’s sparkly and slightly celestial Tony Ward Couture dress looked great on her. Her shoes were a good choice in my opinion, and I loved her slightly unkempt hair. Most of all, the entire ensemble was youthful and fun, which suited her perfectly.
I think fifteen-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz stole the show with her neon Simone Rocha mini-dress. Almost every other celebrity chose darker colors, so the electric yellow really stood out. Instead of appearing garish, it looked modern and chic on her. I loved her simple makeup and half updo.
Both of these dresses could easily be incorporated into your own wardrobes. You couldn’t go wrong with a shimmering A-line dress at a winter formal. A bright fit-and-flare dress would be perfect for a spring lunch or date night. Even if they weren’t among the official winners that night, they both receive style awards from me.
