Here Clare shows you how to transform a simple outfit just by changing the shoes. For starters, Clare is wearing just a basic white and light denim outfit. Her shoes dress her simplistic style down for a more everyday, casual look.
Clare loves herself a good pair of metallic oxfords. In fact, I’m pretty sure she has two or three pairs of them. Just by switching up her shoes to metallic oxfords with a funky pointed toe, this outfit instantly gets a boost of quirkiness.
Contrary to what you might think, metallic shoes are not hard to style. In fact, they’re almost easier to style because you can use them as a statement neutral. Just throw them on and a simple outfit looks put together.
Recently, Will and I took a road trip up to Seattle to visit Clare while she was nannying and then bring her back to Portland with us. We woke up at 5:30 a.m. and were on the road by 7. It’s about a three-hour drive, depending on traffic, so we arrived around 10 a.m. We didn’t leave Seattle until 11 that night because we were just enjoying the city and each other’s company. To be comfy for the road trip but still look cute on our city adventures I went with a babydoll style dress with a bralette for comfort and some suede lace-up booties.
We hadn’t eaten, so our first mission was to find a place for breakfast and in the process we discovered this cute alley.
Will said the Seattle Public Library had really cool architecture, and he wasn’t lying.
Clare and I both have a lot of shoes—and personally I love shoe shopping more than pretty much anything else. We thought it might be interesting to show you our favorite styles for spring and summer. Behold, the video below!
This weekend Clare, Will and I went to our local tea shop to catch up. The three of us have very busy lives, and as graduation approaches the opportunities for us to spend time together are limited. With the help of Will’s amazing camera work, I got a great OOTD pic of myself and Clare.
I hope everyone’s finishing the year strong and getting excited for summer like I am.
Many of Clare’s and my friends have asked us about our experience getting our first tattoo. Although Clare and I both follow many beauty gurus on Youtube, and have found a ton of videos that explain a tattoo’s meaning or how painful a piercing is, none (that we have watched or found) give a first-timer’s point of view. So Clare and I made a video for you (and our friends) explaining the process and pain level—and we threw in some helpful tips, too.

On those days when you’re running around doing errands or just shopping, sometimes it’s nice to have a casual outfit that is still stylish.
With this transition from winter to spring, the weather can be confusing—it will look sunny, but it’s only 55 degrees! Clare chose a beanie and jeans for the cooler moments, and sunnies with a loose fitting T-shirt for the warmer moments. Black patent Vans and a vintage digital watch add a sporty, stylish edge. (Clare loves edge!)
Clare loves an edgy look. When most people think “edgy,” they think of all-black outfits. But Clare and I are here to show you how to be edgy with a light, springtime feel.
Clare is wearing a transitional top made from stiff sweatshirt material that’s just heavy enough for a not-quite-hot spring day. It has working zippers that go about halfway up the sides. The wrap skort adds an unusual, geometric element to the look. Her chunky platforms are super comfy, and the white trim adds the perfect amount of graphic appeal.
And what makes this look so edgy? It’s the contrast between the sporty, boxy top and the slightly conservative khaki skort. An easy way to add a little edge to your look is an unexpected pairing. Mix two things that don’t normally go together and you’re…walking on the edge!
Spring is nearly here, which means everyone needs to get out of their dark outfits and start wearing some color again.
Clare recently picked up these sick oxfords and we wanted to share their awesomeness with you. They aren’t exactly the easiest shoes to style and they definitely make a fashion statement. The combination of light-wash mom jeans, metallic blue shoes and pastel blue coat could be overpowering. But the cream-colored blouse separates each item, allowing them all to work together.
Although it isn’t festival season yet and the weather in Portland is not quite wintry anymore, that doesn’t mean faux fur is a no in this awkward transition period.
Clare’s base outfit is essentially very simple: a striped T-shirt dress and chunky, strappy heels. To give this look more personality she styled herself with a half-up bun, holographic sunnies and a fabulous faux-fur coat.
