New Year Resolutions

This year, my resolution is to embrace my natural beauty. I got a bit of a wake up call on New Year’s Eve: I looked in the mirror and realized I was wearing so much eyeliner and bronzer I could barely recognize myself. While I appreciate the transforming properties of cosmetics, I want to look like Alyssa, not a mask.

Even on a daily basis, I’m pretty high maintenance—I usually won’t leave the house without a full face and my heat-styled hair. Not only does my morning routine take FOREVER, but it also isn’t good for my skin or hair (pimples, split ends, etc.). This year my goal is to go at least one day a week wearing little or no makeup and my hair completely natural. This is what it will look like:

Ok, I couldn’t go completely bare in front of the camera (I’m not quite that brave yet). Today, I’m just wearing a little bit of concealer and mascara, which is practically nothing compared to my usual foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, bronzer and lip color.

This is how my hair looks  without any heat or product (I just took a shower and let it air dry).  It’s a little flat, but a deep side part adds some oomph!

I just thought this would be a fun shot to finish with! If it was on Instagram, I would definitely post it as #LongHairDon’tCare.

If you don’t have a New Year’s resolution yet, you should definitely consider joining me on the “go natural” train!  Your skin and hair will thank you. 🙂

Fashion Resolutions

Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. Since the new year is upon us, I decided I would make a list of my resolutions regarding fashion. Without further ado, here you go!

Happy new year

1. No more blue jeans every day! The first thing I do when I get dressed in the morning is reach for my jeans, but for the new year, I want to try and mix it up a little bit. More skirts and flowy dresses!

2. Color, color, color! Look in my closet and you’ll see a lot of black, beige, white and more black. For the upcoming spring and summer, I want to go bold and bright!

3. Dress up for no reason! Put on a nice dress, jewelry and heels just for fun! It never hurts to stand out in a good way.

Dress it up

4. Go edgy, then girly and everywhere in between! I resolve to try every style that I can. I don’t want to have one “style” that defines how I dress.

5. Stick with quality over quantity! I tend to buy more clothes that are cheaper in quality. I want to splurge on a couple of really nice designer things that I can get a lot of use from.

6. Get and stay organized! My closet is pretty much a disaster all year round. It always starts off organized and nicely color coded, but that usually changes within a week. This year I want it to stay beautiful!

7. Plan ahead! It’s always such a rush to pick an outfit in the morning, especially when I wake up late. Everything becomes so much easier when you choose your outfit the night before.

I sincerely hope that each and every one of you can fulfill your new year’s resolutions!

Stay determined,
