Style by Samantha

As most of you probably know already, I’m not just a blogger myself but also a lover of blogs. I probably follow over 200! I started following former BP. Blogger Samantha after she included the link to her Tumblr blog in her “Farewell” post. Since then, she has created a separate blog called The Petite Silhouette where she posts oodles of OOTDs and personal style inspiration. Her blog blew me away, so it’s inevitable that some of her fabulous outfits would make it on the BP. Blog at one point or another.

Make sure to check out Samantha’s blog for even more style inspiration!

Farewell from Samantha

Well, this is it. My time as a BP. blogger has officially come to an end. This year has gone by so fast, and I wish that I could re-live it all over again. While I am sad that this time in my life is ending, I know that I am moving on to bigger and better things.

Some of my favorite photos from this year

This experience has taught me so much, and the memories will stay with me for the rest of my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my year. Thank you so much to the BP. team, my friends and my family. I couldn’t have done it without your support!

From homecoming to musicals to the Bahamas to prom to concerts to the lake and more

To Clare, Alyssa and Lily: Congratulations! You are about to begin an incredible journey. I can’t wait to read your posts and look for new inspiration. I promise the year will fly by, so cherish every last post.

I will never forget the year that I blogged for BP. Nordstrom. However cliched this may sound, this is not goodbye. Who knows what I’ll be doing a few years from now? I can only hope that you’ll see me again.

If you want to keep up with me, you can check out my personal style blog on Tumblr.

For the last time, stay beautiful,

Tumblr Style

For almost a year now, I have been an avid user of Tumblr. It is my favorite social media platform, bypassing Facebook, Twitter and Youtube by far. Tumblr is the web host for thousands of different kinds of blogs. My favorite to look at, however, are the personal style blogs. It’s amazing that girls from all around the world are using Tumblr to share their personal style and advice, all while cultivating friendships with other bloggers.

I love to see outfits from so many different kinds of people come together in one place. These girls have incredible style, and I always look to them for inspiration.

1. Aly

Aly writes the style blog alyucma. I can always count on her to have amazing outfit-of-the-day posts, and I love her unique style and fashion advice. This simple, stylish outfit is one of my faves. It’s perfect for the upcoming fall.

2. Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn’s fashion blog, Kaitlyn’s Style Guide, is flawless. It’s the perfect mix of inspiration, outfits and advice with just a hint of fangirling over her favorite band (and mine), 5 Seconds of Summer. I always look forward to seeing her outfits. This is one of my favorites. I will forever be in love with anyone who can make overalls and baseball caps look fashionable.

3. Tia

Tia’s Book of Style never fails to amaze me. Everything she wears is absolutely incredible. Her edgy looks are always on trend, but I swear she could pull off anything. She makes this sweatshirt look totally chic.

Ger her look: sweatshirt dress | boots | bag

4. Rikki

Rikki from Rikki’s Style is truly a sweetheart. She is always doing the best she can to help her followers in any way possible. She also does “style steals” for her favorite celebrities. Basically, she recreates celebrity looks using similar pieces that cost less! I love her denim skater skirt and knit sweater.

Get her look: Converse | sweater | skater skirt

5. Agata

I love Agata’s blog, Messy and Classy. First, the name is just adorable. Second, her style is awesome. Third, she makes great Polyvore sets. What more could you ask for? I love this ensemble she wore for a girls’ night out.

My Top 6 Must-Have Shoes

Whoever said “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” obviously didn’t know me. As an avid collector of shoes, I can confidently say that there are certain types of shoes that every girl needs for her wardrobe to be complete.

You don’t need to own as many pairs as Nina Garcia (whose shoe closet is shown above) to have a complete collection. Just stick with these shoe staples, and you can’t go wrong:

1. Black or Nude Pumps

A pair of black pumps can carry you through life. They look good with everything from jeans to party dresses. Keep the height of the heel reasonable to ensure maximum usage.

2. Flat Sandals

A pair of simple sandals will go with almost every outfit you could imagine. The Sam Edelman Gigis are a great pair of essential sandals.

3. Ankle Boots

With or without heels, these stylish booties are perfect for all seasons. With jeans in the winter and shorts in the summer, a cute pair of ankle boots is essential.

4. Flats

Whether you opt for neutral or a pop of color, ballet flats add a polish to any outfit. These cap-toe flats are to die for.

5. Rain Boots

Whatever color you choose, you can’t go wrong. I just picked up a pair of Hunters this weekend, and I’m obsessed with them! (Kendi’s coral Hunters are some of my faves.)

6. Sneakers

As I’ve mentioned many times before, Converse are my all-time favorite sneakers. However, Keds and Vans can also give you the same effortless look.

If you don’t have at at least one pair of each of these shoes, you definitely need to go check out the new arrivals in the BP. shoe department!

Chambray shirts are everywhere right now, and they are a staple for every girl’s wardrobe. There are so many different ways to style them, which got me thinking. How many ways, exactly, can you style a chambray shirt? Earlier this year, I posted about my experience doing another fashion challenge called The Uniform Project. I really enjoyed it, and it taught me so much. So, after learning a lesson in versatility from Brittany, I decided to take on this one.

Don’t have a chambray shirt? I used this one from BP.

Wearing your chambray as an accessory instead of a shirt keeps you cool and casual. I love the way it adds interest to an otherwise simple outfit. A thick gold chain and Converse keep the outfit balanced.

Button your chambray all the way and throw on a statement necklace! It accents the collar of your shirt perfectly. Slip on some flats, and you’re on your way.

Roll up your sleeves and slip on a skirt for this effortless, but still dressy, outfit. My new ankle boots are a great accent to this ensemble.

I love to wear my chambray underneath a cream-colored sweater. It’s the perfect little pop of blue on an all black-and-white outfit. This outfit will definitely keep you warm and cozy once the weather gets cooler.

I love to dress up my graphic tee with a skort and pair of heels. To keep from being too dressed up, I simply tied my chambray around my hips.

Kick back and start your weekend right by throwing your chambray under a plaid button-down. This relaxed style looks just right with skinny jeans and a pair of ankle boots.

If you’re going out to dinner, then this is the ensemble for you. A chambray shirt looks amazing over a dress. For cooler nights, your chambray is a great way to keep you warm in a strapless/sleeveless piece.

How many ways can you wear your chambray?

The Perfect Plaid

I have been on the hunt for the perfect plaid shirt to wear in the upcoming fall and winter months. Like overalls, plaid can often be reminiscent of farms and the “good ol’ South.” However, when done the right way, plaid is nothing but casual cool. There are so many different colors and styles of plaid to choose from. Luckily, BP. has them all.

Left | Middle | Right

An oversized plaid shirt can instantly take your outfit to the next level. This girl adds color and interest to an otherwise monochromatic outfit by throwing on her plaid button-up.

A plaid shirt is also the perfect piece to help you achieve a punk look that is totally trendy for the fall.

One of my absolute favorite ways to wear a plaid shirt is to tie it around your hips or waist.

Black, White and Denim

What’s so wrong with black and white? According to me, nothing. However, my friends and family are constantly getting on me for my overwhelmingly monochromatic wardrobe. I don’t intentionally pick out pieces without color, but when I go shopping, I am naturally drawn to items that are black, white and denim. For example, this is the outfit I wore to dinner with my friend recently:

I loved how my sleeveless, denim button-down looked with my black shorts, bowler hat, and Katz shoes.

So to all my friends, family and other skeptics of the monochromatic wardrobe, here are the reasons why I love it:

1. Everything matches

With such a simple color palette, it’s hard to go wrong. Disregarding style, all your tops go with all your bottoms. This way, each piece gets more wear, and you definitely get your money’s worth.

2. Adding a statement piece is a breeze

Wearing a monochromatic outfit is the perfect way to incorporate a statement piece. You never have to worry about your purse, shoes or lipstick clashing with your outfit.

3. Black-and-white is a timeless combination

Black and white are such chic and classic colors. They’re simple, sophisticated and will never go out of style.

4. Textures are easy to incorporate

These quilted shorts (left) and fringe skirt (right) look perfect in their respective outfits. Because they’re in such a neutral color, they don’t take away from the rest of the outfit, and they don’t compete for attention.

5. It’s just plain cool

I’ve always envied the girl who can pull off an all-black ensemble. Let’s face it, this girl looks awesome.

An added bonus? Stains are non-existent. This is an essential for the clumsy and spill-prone girl like me. I’m always dropping food on myself, so it’s essential to minimize the likelihood of walking around all day with a stain on my shirt.

The Fashion Through My Eyes

I am finally visiting the last college on my list. As I sat down in the hotel lobby to write this post, I began to reflect on all the colleges I’ve visited in the past year. Believe it or not, I have visited 14 different schools! After driving all over the East Coast (and even the Midwest), I’m exhausted. Stepping onto many campuses, attending multiple information sessions and conversing with countless faculty and staff can be a long process. However, the search for the college that will be my home for four years is finally coming to end.

Finding the perfect college has been a stressful experience, but it’s something that just about everyone has to do. As hard as this journey has been, it’s taught me a lot. Somewhere in the middle of my college search, I realized that there is no such thing as perfection. There are no perfect campuses, no perfect classes and certainly no perfect people. So, my quest to find the perfect college came to end, and I began a new quest: find the best college for me, a home away from home.

I’ve looked at so many places, but I think I’ve finally found a few that could become “the one.” Now, I just have to get in. Wish me luck!

Stay determined,

School starts in about two weeks, and I’m taking Aya’s advice to get the most from my last little bit of summer. So what did I do? I packed up my bags and went somewhere! At this very moment I am blogging from a beautiful lake resort in the mountains.

I used the panorama setting on my iPhone. Isn’t it cool?

One of my best friends, Ashley (she’s reading in the photo above), actually invited me to travel with her family. It has been so nice to squeeze in some last-minute swimming, tanning and relaxation. Because I needed to pack lightly, I brought only the essentials.

Bikini | Athletic Shorts | T-Shirt | Sunscreen | Hat | Sunglasses | Denim Shorts | Blouse | Tennis Shoes | Flip-Flops

What will you pack for your last vacation of the summer?

Stay beautiful,

As I was browsing through my favorite fashion magazines, there was one particular trend that stood out for this upcoming fall. It may seem a little bit early to talk about trends for the next season, but fashion is always at least a season ahead. It can never hurt to be on top of the latest trends. This fall’s most prominent trend? Anarchic. Or in other words,  the reinvention of punk.

Emma Watson looked phenomenal in her spread, “Breaking Bad,” featured in this month’s issue of Teen Vogue. Her look on this photoshoot was the epitome of the trend. Her stylists (seemingly effortlessly) coordinated bold punk prints, graphic tees and leather jackets.

When I saw the Saint Laurent collection for Fall 2013, I died and went to heaven. It is my absolute favorite rendition of punk. I made this board to represent my favorite take on ‘Anarchic.’

Isn’t it gorgeous? I’m so excited to wear this trend.
