What’s so wrong with black and white? According to me, nothing. However, my friends and family are constantly getting on me for my overwhelmingly monochromatic wardrobe. I don’t intentionally pick out pieces without color, but when I go shopping, I am naturally drawn to items that are black, white and denim. For example, this is the outfit I wore to dinner with my friend recently:
I loved how my sleeveless, denim button-down looked with my black shorts, bowler hat, and Katz shoes.
So to all my friends, family and other skeptics of the monochromatic wardrobe, here are the reasons why I love it:
1. Everything matches
With such a simple color palette, it’s hard to go wrong. Disregarding style, all your tops go with all your bottoms. This way, each piece gets more wear, and you definitely get your money’s worth.
2. Adding a statement piece is a breeze
Wearing a monochromatic outfit is the perfect way to incorporate a statement piece. You never have to worry about your purse, shoes or lipstick clashing with your outfit.
3. Black-and-white is a timeless combination
Black and white are such chic and classic colors. They’re simple, sophisticated and will never go out of style.
4. Textures are easy to incorporate
These quilted shorts (left) and fringe skirt (right) look perfect in their respective outfits. Because they’re in such a neutral color, they don’t take away from the rest of the outfit, and they don’t compete for attention.
5. It’s just plain cool
I’ve always envied the girl who can pull off an all-black ensemble. Let’s face it, this girl looks awesome.
An added bonus? Stains are non-existent. This is an essential for the clumsy and spill-prone girl like me. I’m always dropping food on myself, so it’s essential to minimize the likelihood of walking around all day with a stain on my shirt.
