I don’t know about you guys, but the weather has been ridiculously hot lately, especially for us Oregonians who are used to rain and temps varying from 50 to 70 degrees in the summer! Lately we’ve had a hot streak of 80- to 100-degree temperatures, but after 39 days with no rain, Portland finally got some summer showers that lowered things down to between 70 and 80.
So after I’d finally gotten used to the hot weather … I got cold and ended up wearing a leather jacket at night.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year: the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! Every year around the middle of July my heart gets happy and my wallet gets heavy in anticipation of THE BEST SALE EVER. Here are some of my top picks from the sale, just in time for you to snag them before prices go up.
1. Free People Stitch Detail Plaid Shirt
Plaid is a must-have every fall season! I love how Free People amped up this closet essential by adding some mineral wash distressing and cutout string detailing.
2. Socialite Knit Tank Dress
T-shirt dresses have become HUGE this year, and I love the fun and flirty twist this floral one provides for fall. Plus, it’s a great piece when transitioning from the smoldering summer to the … well … still pretty hot other seasons that SoCal experiences!
By the middle of my second hour pining over the 2014 Met Gala dresses (Hailee’s, Cara’s and Suki’s were my favorites, BTW), with genuine tears coming out of my eyes and my fingers sore from pressing “next,” I thought to myself, “Enough is enough.”
So you and I weren’t invited to fashion’s biggest night of the year, and we didn’t get to clink our glasses with Karlie or Taylor or Miuccia to toast Charles James—but that can’t get us down! What with finals and AP tests and other stressful events approaching, you and I deserve a night out on the town, even if that town is our lame hometown.
One of my favorite pieces from the Kate Moss x Topshop line is this black satin romper, which practically forces you to throw on black heels and red lipstick and go out DANCING. When I put it on I feel like an invincible rock superstar, like I could walk into a crowded restaurant and someone would whisk me past the line into a private dining room because I am the kind of person who does NOT wait for a table.
So here is the thing: Usually I just treat myself like I am a celebrity, and I think this is a valid way of life. One night this week (let it be a Tuesday!) take yourself out. Dress up, go to dinner and pretend you have to rush home to get ready for the Vanity Fair Oscar partay.
Who cares if you’re pretending? Dress up anyway! Pretending is fun. 🙂
Fashion fans everywhere, rejoice! Another Kate Moss x Topshop collaboration is finally happening, and we couldn’t be more proud and fangirly pleased that this time it’s happening right here at Nordstrom. While we can’t give you any sneak peeks at the merch yet, we can share this adorable video of Gossip singer Beth Ditto talking about her friend Kate, which is almost as good.
April 30 is the big day, so mark it on your calendars and get ready to freak out.
While some of you darling readers may be lucky enough to live in a place where it is sunny and warm all year, it is officially winter for the rest of us. In my city in the Pacific Northwest, it is freezing. So for all of you chilly ones, it’s time to start donning your winter coats! Oversized coats are huge this year, and I absolutely love them.
My oversized Topshop coat inspired my outfit of the day. It’s such a statement piece that you can wear it with a just simple black tee and jeans underneath. Also, note how I wear those black boots basically every day. They’re amazing!
I love this coat because it’s so cozy but unique and bold at the same time. And it makes me feel like une femme in le gay Paree.
Topshop is wonderful. Edgy, comfortable, always managing to make me feel like a cool British schoolgirl. I just got this versatile croptop and I thought I would try styling it with the other Topshop pieces I got, so that I could wear it every day forever.
Look 1 The crop is perfect underneath these overalls. (Overalls are generally my favorite look right now, easy to throw on for school or rafting the Mississippi.)
Tighter tops like this one pull together casual track pants for a more complete look. I call this “the Usain Bolt,” because I refuse to wear my track pants without gold shoes.
It’s no secret that I am completely obsessed with anything and everything from Topshop. Luckily for me, Nordstrom is carrying a ton of amazing Topshop pieces right now. I am loving everything from their dresses to their shoes to their bikinis! I’ve picked out my top six favorites to share with you:
Top Row (L-R):
1. Moto ‘Sophie’ Crop Sleevelss Denim Shirt: This shirt is the perfect combination of every summer trend, and it’s a must-have for your closet. It’s a collared, chambray, button-down crop-top. What more could a girl ask for?
2. ‘Summer Rose’ Bikini: I’ve been dying to add this gorgeous printed bikini to my collection of summer swimsuits. Honestly, I already have too many. However, I might just have to make an exception for this one.
3. ‘Katz’ Shoe: As soon as I saw this shoe, I fell in love. I’ve wanted to add this shoe to my wardrobe for a couple of months now; I’ve been saving up. This shoe is too perfect for words, so I’m not going to say much more. You can just bask in its glory.
Bottom Row (L-R):
1. Floral Skater Skirt: I just found this little gem today while I was shopping online. The color is just beautiful, and it’s the perfect flirty addition to your summer wardrobe.
2. ‘Clean Bowling Bag’ Satchel: I’ve been looking for a basic black bag for ages now, but I think i may have found the one. I love this satchel because it doesn’t have a lot of embellishments AND it’s roomy! I can fit everything I need in this bag.
3. Stripe Shift Dress: It’s pretty obvious at this point that I love these thick black-and-white stripes. They’re amazing on everything, but this dress is definitely for the girl who wants to make a statement.
This summer, I have my eyes on nothing but jumpsuits. Whether they’re long or short, I think they are a must-have for your wardrobe. I’m so excited because I just ordered the Topshop Floral Grid Print Romper! I absolutely cannot wait until I recieve it.
I love this romper because it has such a lovely print for summer and because it’s a step away from traditional denim overalls. If you’re not too keen on all-out overalls, these could be a perfect way to test the waters.
Is anyone else as obsessed with Topshop as I am? Honestly, I think it’s starting to become just a tad unhealthy. And the fact that I can get it at Nordstrom? Even better.
While everything at Topshop is absolutely gorgeous, I am particularly in love with their dresses. The best thing about them is that they are so unique. You really can’t find dresses like these anywhere else. There’s no better way to stand out at your prom than by wearing a completely unique knockout dress! Try these options:
