Backstage Beauty: NARS + butter LONDON at Creatures of the Wind

model-nars-3Inspiration for the Creatures of the Wind S/S 2015 show was ‘undone tomboy,’ so makeup had a cool, wearable, boyish vibe.

Skin was undone and raw, meant to look overheated and flushed. James Boehmer with NARS started by exfoliating and massaging skin, then spot correcting with concealer and finishing with tinted moisturizer only if the model needed it.

In a surprising twist, a new minty green metallic lipgloss was applied just in the center of the eyelid and lips. To add dimension to the face, neutral new lipstick was used as a bronzer, applied in this cool technique to mimic how a child would naturally flush: in a V shape at the point of the cheekbone, blended downward. James hoped to capture a ‘mood, not an obvious makeup look.’

A layered ombré ‘mirage nail’ completed the look (the vision of Katie Hughes with butter LONDON). Nail 999 Base was applied first to bare nails to create a fleshy, pink look.

A rich-grey new shade, ‘Full Steam Ahead’, was painted starting at the tip of the nail, toward the cuticle. Using her finger, Katie blotted the grey line to create the ombré effect. Last, ‘Diamond Geezer’, a sparkly silver glitter shade, was pressed on top of the grey to create a gunmetal fade. You could still see the grey of ‘Full Steam Ahead’ underneath the silver glitter, which added a cool, organic nail look that we loved.
