Canyon Coffee Cofounders on Bonding over Coffee and How Best to Make It

California cuties Ally Walsh and Casey Wojtalewicz are ideally matched. The two met through a mutual friend and quickly fell in love while sipping cups of joe around the City of Angels. Their shared passions for the beverage, for travel and for giving back to the people they encounter provided a natural bond from which their relationship grew. Eventually, the duo decided to make their personal relationship a professional one, forming Canyon Coffee in 2016.

Canyon Coffee sources organically grown beans from international farms, usually paying more than the fair trade price to farmers they work with. In coming months, the company plans to expand its importing to involve additional regions. We caught up with Ally and Casey to talk about coffee. Get their tips for brewing the perfect cup for the person you love, and watch the video of them around L.A. in some styles from Treasure & Bond (exclusively at Nordstrom).

Foundwell, vintage Rolex watch Men’s Fashion Style

Foundwell’s Vintage Treasures Will Delight Gentlemen (and Ladies, Too)

Treasure hunting in thrift and antique stores always sounds rewarding, until you’re elbow deep in cast-off kitchenwares and polyester glad rags. Yet, the search for those diamonds in the rough appeals to us largely because true vintage gems elude us. Most simply don’t have the time, patience or knowledge to find something really rarefied.

Alan Bedwell, however, was raised on scouting for silver marks, identifying makers, dating materials and appraising art. His bona fides come by birth: his mother is a longtime antiques dealer in London. Soon after graduating, Bedwell went to work sourcing antiques for Ralph Lauren. More than a decade later, he branched out on his own, establishing his luxury goods company Foundwell in 2009. Foundwell curates fine homewares and accessories from over the last two centuries, specializing in men’s finery and antique silver pieces.

This season, Nordstrom Downtown Seattle is carrying some of his singular discoveries, which can also be found online. We spoke with Bedwell about what attracts his eye and some of his favorite finds—plus what to buy for that tricky guy on your list this holiday.

Asking for a Friend: How to Wear Black and Brown

“Asking for a Friend” is our style advice series.

One of the great lies men are told about dressing is not to mix black with brown. The same warning is often issued for navy with black. This is not good advice! These colors look good together and you should do what looks right to you.

We especially encourage mixing black and brown. Coming off the streetwear trend in recent years of high-contrast black-and-white combos, substituting brown for white offers a relaxing change of pace.

In the outfit above, you may notice a new silhouette of pants: baggy. It’s a bit of a fashion killa move, but if you want to dress like our fashion hero Josh Peskowitz, you’ll give it a whirl.

Check out more new silhouettes and outfit inspiration below: you’ll find tapered pants, ideas for how to layer up top, and plenty of black and brown.

SHOP: Billy Reid long-sleeve T-shirt | Baracuta jacket | Lemaire pants (sold in store only in Downtown Seattle and Eaton Centre, Toronto) | Common Projects shoes (sold in store only at these locations) | Smartwool socks | Brixton hat | Topman scarf

Asking for a Friend: How to Wear One Suit Jacket For Everything

‘Asking for a Friend’ is our style advice series.

Every man needs a suit, but not everyone gets the most bang for his buck. Is there a way to increase the value of this purchase?

Yes, sir: wear the pieces separately. Mix up your outfits to give more life to the jacket and pants. You hopefully got them tailored, so they fit you perfectly and deserve to be worn frequently. For more information on that, see our story Asking for a Friend: How to Talk to a Tailor.

Without further delay: here are three ways for you to consider wearing your blazer.

Asking For a Friend: How to Talk to a Tailor

‘Asking for a Friend’ is our style advice series.

As you develop your personal style to incorporate traditional menswear, tailoring becomes essential. We understand if that causes some apprehension. But let us take care of you and you’ll see there’s nothing to worry about.

We offer alterations for free in all our stores, on almost every item. Drop in any time or make an appointment online. Our tailors are easy to speak with and ready to help.

Now let’s talk about tailoring pants. There’s not just one way to do it. You have to think about what kind of fit you want, and what kind of shoes you’re most likely to wear with the finished pants.

For inspiration, here’s how to make your favorite dress pants work three ways by tailoring them differently.

Everlane’s 100% Human Collection: A Champion of Human Rights

In January 2017, Everlane launched its 100% Human Collection in response to the visibly divisive mood of the nation at the time. For CEO Michael Preysman and the Everlane team, it wasn’t about being a Democrat or a Republican, it wasn’t about left or right; it was about celebrating the universal humanity we share across political spectrums, racial makeups, gender identities, sexual orientations—and, of course, geographic locations. It was about reminding all of us that human rights are everyone’s business.

“The idea of 100% Human was totally organic,” says Michael. “It wasn’t premeditated. We thought right at the time of the election, being a country so split between two different sides, that there was more need for unity.”

Pesko (and His Cat) at Home: Talking GREATS and Wearing Nordstrom

Do you know Josh Peskowitz? He predates “influencer” as a term but that’s been his function for at least the last half of his 22 years in fashion magazines and the upper echelons of retail. At 38, he’s a deep industry insider and public fixture in the landscape along with guys like Nick Wooster, one of the most photographed people every fashion week.

It’s no wonder Peskowitz and Wooster are both brand ambassadors for GREATS shoes. The smart new sneaker company out of Brooklyn seems to be doing everything right.

Peskowitz was born in Brooklyn, just like GREATS, but now lives in California. On the occasion of Nordstrom launching GREATS online, we linked up for this story in Los Angeles in which he did some modeling, self-styled in clothes personally selected at Nordstrom The Grove in L.A., with GREATS shoes.

Between photos at his house, we chatted with Peskowitz about his time at FADER, Cargo, Esquire, the old Style.com (his video series “In the Closet” holds up), and generally his life in style going back to the ’90s. We also met his cat, Turkey, who was really sweet.

Check out his outfits and our conversation below.

Inside Balenciaga FW17 with Nordstrom Men’s Designer Buyer Dan Drewes

Legendary Spanish luxury house Balenciaga is experiencing new life under the creative direction of Demna Gvasalia, who took the reins in 2015. He brought his singular aesthetic, a kind of warped normcore luxury, and it’s a hit. Our current offering is already a favorite of celebrities like A$AP Rocky.

Previously known for his controversial, logo-riffing brand Vetements, Gvasalia operates in the designer world but seems skeptical of it, even opposed to it. He’s interesting to watch as a consumer and a cultural spectator.

For more insight, we turn to our men’s designer buyer Dan Drewes to explain what Gvasalia is up to in fashion, and take us through our current Balenciaga selection.

Please note: we sell men’s Balenciaga shoes online, but men’s Balenciaga clothing is sold in-store only. Shop Balenciaga in person in our Seattle, Vancouver and Aventura locations, and in Toronto at Yorkdale Shopping Centre. You’ll also be able to find Balenciaga at Nordstrom in Manhattan once our first men’s-only store opens there in spring 2018.
