On starting Laveer: “My intention was to do blazers and fashion jackets, in a little bit more of an edgy and cool way but still remaining sophisticated, nothing too trendy and of the moment, something that you’re going to want to have in your closet for a long time.”

On the first blazer she bought and its influence on her design approach: “I’ve always been a big rag & bone fan. I remember the first time I bought a really fashionable blazer—it was this navy blue with red and white stripes. At first pass, I was like, ‘Is this too British heritage for me?’ Then, when I wore it, I was like, ‘Wow, I feel really cool in this and really confident and still really chic, sophisticated and  pulled together.’ That piece really got me thinking about the category. If I look back to interviews that people did on me when I was at Shopbop, I’ve been citing that category for so long. I finally had an epiphany: ‘Oh wow, I’m all about this. I want to see what I can bring to the table from a design component or perspective.'”

On design inspirations: “It’s really important to have a narrative in your head, so you’re putting out a collection that looks really cohesive and makes sense. I’ve always been drawn to military-inspired fashion, and I don’t think it’s a trend. It’s just always around. I always loved plaid, camouflage and pinstripes. There are heritage fabrics that will always be in my collection.”

On an OMG celebrity-spotting of Laveer: “Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore one of my designs coming out of LAX. That was a definite highlight!”
