Hana Mae Lee Talks About Hilarious Horror, Her Recluse Ambitions and Rad Style

You definitely know her as Lilly from Pitch Perfect (1, 2 and now 3), but Hana Mae Lee is branching out into more (and more vocal) roles. The star on the rise with ingenue eyes brings her distinctly darling style to all her projects—three to come this year alone.

We caught up with Lee to talk about what she shops, her signature hair style and her favorite movie moments.

What do you love about Nordstrom’s “one-of-a-kind” Anniversary Sale? Why is it a great time to shop?

I love the variety. From Le Creuset to MM6 Maison Margiela, so your boyfriend cooks while you’re looking good! Everyone loves a sale, but a great sale is where it’s at. #Heard

What do you usually shop during the sale?

I splurge on diptyque Feu de Bois candles.

How would you describe your personal style?

Dark. Oversized. Rad.

What is a fashion purchase that you’ve recently made?

A few vampiric pieces from Rick Owens.

Do you have a favorite outfit? What is it?

SCUM hoodie. Alexander Wang creepers. Forehead bangs—super short ones.

One of your most recognizable characters is the shy, quiet Lilly from Pitch Perfect. As an entertainer and comedienne, one would assume you’re a bit more outgoing. What’s the truth?

Truth is, here it is … definitely an aspiring recluse over here. It’s been fun so far. It takes hard work like anything else but if you set your mind to it, nothing is impossible.

What is your favorite memory from the Pitch Perfect franchise?

The nostalgic music in each film. #TheSign #NoDiggity #ThisIsHowWeDoIt

Who are some comedians who have inspired you?

Eli Roth’s Hostel 1, 2 and 3.

What are you working on now?

Right now you can watch me, rewind me, pause and stare at me in the series Patriot on Amazon Prime. In late July, you can watch me all you want in The Babysitter on Netflix Originals, and on December 22 you can watch me over and over again in theaters for Pitch Perfect 3. And yes, I do have full-frontal hair bangs in all three projects. You’re welcome.
