How Jessica Alba Wears Her DL1961 Jeans
Jessica Alba is a busy lady. Between her acting career, devoted parenting of two daughters and running the Honest Company, her business of earth-friendly, non-toxic household products, she still somehow finds time to lend her entrepreneurial and fashion savvy to collaborations.
For example, this fall, Alba is the face and toned body of a denim collection for DL1961. It’s a partnership that strikes one as sincere. Both Alba and DL1961 favor environmentally conscious practices and technological innovation. DL1961’s fits, too, flatter a curvaceous figure; Alba is famed for her own.
We spoke with the actress turned entrepreneur about denim’s enduring appeal and her favorite way to style her jeans, the go-to uniform of ladies on the go.
Why were you interested in designing a line of denim?
I live in my jeans and so do my girlfriends, so it was fun to go to each of them and ask them what they wanted in the perfect pair. My collection really was designed to make jeans that you can wear every day and everywhere.
Why was DL1961 the right partner for this endeavor?
I loved that we shared the same values; they are the only denim brand that makes a conscious effort to be eco-friendly. They own their own factories, so they are able to control the process and in turn use 50% less water, dye and chemicals in the manufacturing of all their jeans.
How do you dress denim up?
Pumps and a blazer or booties and a long cardigan or a long trench and an elegant flat. It’s all about building the outfit around jeans with the right accent pieces.
How do you dress denim down?
That’s easy: sandals, wedges or sneakers and depending on the weather a t-shirt or tank, even a simple oversized button down.
What is unique about this denim collection?
I really focused on the fit for each pair. I wanted to slim the thighs and lift the butt so they look and feel amazing. We all turn and look at our butts in our jeans the minute we put them on, so they need to make you feel good and confident. I became obsessed with the details to make sure the proportions were on point and had a purpose.
How often do you wear jeans during the week?
Almost every day!!
Do you have a blue jean icon?
All the supermodels of the ’90s looked amazing in their jeans. They had beautiful curvy bodies…I love that.
