Listen Up! Alvvays

We’ve been on a bit of a Canadian kick recently. Last week, we scored an interview with the talented and supremely interesting Calgarian singer-songwriter Chad VanGaalen. This week, while mining the interwebs for cool new music to share, we stumbled across Alvvays.

The Torontonian (for real!) five-piece has been getting plenty of attention since the video for its single “Adult Diversion” appeared last fall, and things have really been heating up lately thanks to the recent release of the band’s self-titled debut.

From the instant we clicked ‘play’ on the video for “Marry Me, Archie,” we were in love. The fuzzed-out guitars, the hypnotic backbeats and Molly Rankin’s plaintive, almost-strained delivery of the chorus all add up to a perfect piece of sweet, summery pop that makes us feel all the feelings. And, in that quirky, wow-the-world-is-small way, the record was produced by none other than… Chad VanGaalen! (We told you he was a creative juggernaut.)

Alvvays’s eponymous debut is out now via Polyvinyl Records, and the band is touring all over the place from now until the end of the year.
