Talking Savvy: Sarah Hendren’s Croatian Vacation
Check out weekly posts from super-stylish Savvy buyer, Sarah Hendren, as she fills us in on all things Savvy—from the hottest trends, to bands she’s loving, to dreamy vacation spots you might not know about.
Even though summer officially begins in June, there’s just something about the 4th of July that seems to kick off the season for real, and nothing says summer like a long vacation—preferably on a beach somewhere.
Instead of the usual suspects like Cabo or the Virgin Islands, why not try something a little less expected? Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast has mild temps, rich history and crazy-beautiful views, as our travel-loving Savvy buyer, Sarah, recently found out. Read on as she shares the best places to hit up.
“My first stop was Dubrovnik, a bustling city filled with mind-blowing history. There are these massive walls surrounding most of the Old Town, built centuries ago as protection. It’s perfectly preserved and so authentically medieval-feeling that some of Game of Thrones is filmed here! I stayed at the seriously luxe Hotel Excelsior. It’s right on the water, has insane views and is a quick walk to the gates of Old Town. And Proto, in Old Town, has delicious seafood plucked right from the waters of the Adriatic Sea.”
“Next up: Hvar, a dreamy island north of Dubrovnik. Hotel Adriana was another spot with stunning views. They’ve got a spa, too, but who’s going to be stressed out here? I had an amazing meal at Konoba Dionis on the Pakleni Islands, but just know you have to take a boat and then hike a bit to get there, so make reservations. It’s no fun to show up and find out this tiny, authentic spot is all booked up.”
“On my last day in Hvar, I hopped a boat (it’s pretty much the only way to get around here) for a day trip to Vis to check out the Blue Grotto—a sea cave that glows blue at certain times of the day. The trip was SO amazing, and I can’t wait to go back.”
