Everything You Need to Know About Sunscreen

Beauty Skin Care

It goes without saying that sunscreen is critical for daily use. Even when skies are overcast and temperatures feel cool, the sun’s harmful UV rays are always a threat to your skin and daily protection is an absolute essential. Still, the biggest obstacle in sun protection is simply forgetting to apply it (or reapply it) in the first place. Our solution? Stock your beach bag with a water-resistant mineral formula, apply a high-factor primer before makeup and carry a broad-spectrum protective powder with you to touch up throughout the day. Set yourself up for safe sunning success by never being unprepared.

Ahead, an SPF breakdown, advice for where to wear and shoppable links to our favorite formulas for every occasion. Slather it on and soak up the sun, but safely.

The Evolution of Nike Air Max post image

The Evolution of Nike Air Max

Style

Since legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield put the brand’s revolutionary air technology on display in 1987, the Air Max has earned a devoted following that includes sneakerheads, athletes, pop stars and, most recently, the fashion elite. Rita Ora rocks them on- and offstage, and Beyoncé has been spotted in a pair (in Liquid Gold, of course). Fashion Week attendees count on the sneaker for walking comfortably from show to show, and minimalist-style-queen Phoebe Philo pairs them with understated separates. The sneaker is majorly cushioned, incredibly innovative and super fly—a solid streetwear staple. March is Nike Air Max month and to celebrate, we’re looking back at a few iterations of the game-changing sneaker.

Fashion Week Street Style Style

No other city in the world inspires like Paris. For the grand finale of fashion’s spring tour, street stylers came suited (sometimes literally) in their finest, most fashionable duds before Chanel closes the curtain on Fashion Month. Off-the-runway, primary colors continue to reign supreme (yellow and red, especially). And trench coats? Still your most important spring essential.

Here’s the fashion that lit up the City of Lights.

Celebrating International Women’s Day with Beauty’s Fearless Female Leaders post image

Celebrating International Women’s Day with Beauty’s Fearless Female Leaders

Beauty

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength of female entrepreneurs everywhere—women who lead with unwavering passion and a uniquely female approach to ambition. But specifically, we want to celebrate these nine businesswomen for the ways in which they make us feel amazing, from their organic facial oils and innovative hair devices to the advice and inspiration they impart, giving us the confidence and courage to chase our own dreams.

Because the only thing more beautiful than a woman in control of her own destiny is one who supports other women on their journeys to success, we want to introduce you to a collection of dynamic women from our Nordstrom beauty family who know what being a Girl Boss means to them and to the next generation of female leaders.

Between Saint Laurent’s sensational presentation at the Eiffel Tower and the deep freeze looming outside, Paris Fashion Week has been—in a word—dramatic. The same can be said of the street style. We’re always here for multiple layers—faux furs, bright puffers and plaid trenches—but we also love seeing pops of color, red especially, strutting in front of the Grand Palais. Ahead, a collection of our favorite looks from the final stop on the fashion tour, Paris.

Vans Launches Girls’ Skate Clinics and Events for International Women’s Day post image

Vans Launches Girls’ Skate Clinics and Events for International Women’s Day

Culture Video

Remember the rush of independence that came from getting your driver’s license? Cruising to your friend’s house after school or hitting the drive-through on your lunch break was game-changing. Wheels can be liberating. So can wheelies.

California sneaker company Vans is highlighting the power of skateboarding to change girls’ lives. This March, as part of “This Is Off the Wall,” the company’s campaign featuring international creative communities, Vans is featuring Girls Skate India. The foundation enlists international female skateboarders to teach aspiring boarders how to ollie and flip. Vans partnered to produce a video of skating students in Bangalore meeting with pros Lizzie Armanto and Atita Verghese. On March 8, for International Women’s Day, Vans will also begin hosting more than 100 skateboarding clinics in major cities such as Brooklyn, Chicago, London, St. Petersburg, Shanghai, Bangalore, São Paulo and Mexico City.

Tory Burch on Her Foundation and Redefining Female Ambition post image

Tory Burch on Her Foundation and Redefining Female Ambition

Interviews Style

If you could dress in positivity, that outfit might look like something designed by Tory Burch. For 14 years, Burch’s bright prints, modish cuts and preppy tailoring have worked their way into most women’s wardrobes. For good reason: they’re cheerily chic. Faced with the gloom of the season and the doom of the headlines, draping oneself in Burch’s unapologetic glee is unquestionably a better response to the times than hiding under a comforter. So, today, we’re happy to announce a series of Nordstrom pop-up shops dedicated to the world of Tory Burch. Including her David Hicks–inspired pattern play in the spring ’18 collection, her new Sport styles and always adorable accessories, this carved-out space in selected stores will feature the designer’s accomplished aesthetic—let’s call it our new happy place.

In addition to the fashion, these pop-ups also feature products supporting Burch’s foundation, which promotes women entrepreneurs through education and loans. This International Women’s Day (March 8), the Tory Burch Foundation is encouraging women to #EmbraceAmbition. We spoke with the designer about this cause, her own struggles as a woman entrepreneur, and the best advice she received about her business.

Sneaker Beat: Top Picks for Air Max Month post image

Sneaker Beat: Top Picks for Air Max Month

Men’s Fashion

Nike Air Max day is March 26, but let’s be honest—a single day is not enough. To kick things off, we asked our sneaker buyer to share his top pick (which is a little bit like asking someone to choose his favorite kid). After some hard negotiating, he submitted his top two, both totally innovative and both available in head-turning colorways.

Why our buyer loves it: “The 270 is the perfect mix of fashion and function, it’s that Nike innovation in action. The Hot Punch colorway makes it a natural for street style.”

As pretty as the city is on any day of the year, during Fashion Week there seems to be extra elan in the Paris air–even when that atmosphere is alternating rain and snow. This season, showers couldn’t keep showgoers from turning up in their finery. Balenciaga heels alternated with Triple S sneaks on the street. Power-suiting again prevailed. And coordinating handbags with coats was the new move.

Here’s the fashion that lit up the City of Lights.
