Behind the Brand: A.L.C. Founder Andrea Lieberman Wants All Clothes to Feel as Easy as a T-shirt

It’s pretty clear pretty quickly that A.L.C. founder and creative director Andrea Lieberman is what you might call a cool chick. She likes music—mostly hip-hop and reggae. She runs her own business. She digs—and designs—clothes that are confident, relaxed and modern.

We briefly spoke with Andrea about her design principles and the brand that bears her name—well, her initials.

Instagramming L.A. with Amee Kim and A.L.C.

Amee Kim

Amee Kim

Amee Kim has a very distinct perspective on Los Angeles, her home, and on fashion. When not capturing a cup of coffee, a national park or a hip restaurant in her studied black-and-white colorway for her mesmerizing Instagram account (@amee.kim), she works at A.L.C. The fashion label is designer Andrea Lieberman’s collection of beautiful, casual clothes favored by cool girls on both coasts, although it is headquartered squarely in L.A.

ALC photo shoot in LA

For their fall lookbook, A.L.C. took their collection of luxurious knits and florals out in the Hollywood neighborhood surrounding Milk Studios. Amee Kim was there to snap some candid moments from the photo shoot. She shared them with us, along with her Instagram and style tips–like pairing the looks with the Nike Classic Cortez sneaker, as they do in the lookbook.

Street Report: Caroline Outside Thierry Mugler

Caroline Issa hardly needs an introduction. She’s not only an industry heavy hitter, but she’s also one of the most popular street-style stars out there. In fact, Issa’s new line is coming out right here at Nordstrom! I can’t wait to get my hands on this sure-to-be-stunning collection.

Caroline’s style is both fashion-forward and understated. She has a knack for color and pairing interesting cuts and shapes. Love this wrap skirt and tall boots, with a menswear button-up. This modern ’70s trend is something I can get behind!

Street Report: Rhian Outside Ann Demeulemeester

Rhian’s palette is so, so good. It’s both autumnal and bright, and has a touch of Seventies inspiration. The normcore style of a midi skirt and socks is très popular in Paris, and I love how Rhian’s simple cuts still stand out. Rhian’s sweater has a secret surprise, too: The back is covered with vibrant feathers!

Street Report: Luisa and Nicole Outside Blumarine

Luisa and Nicole are clearly fans of the black-and-white palette that has dominated the fashion scene this year. These two lovely looks are full of fun texture, pattern and accessories. Sleek mirrored sunglasses are a great accent choice, along with those gorgeous bags. The mixed stripes are right on trend for the season, as are the graphic fur and drop-waist skirt. Way to coordinate, ladies!

Street Report: Linda Outside Blumarine

Linda Tol is back on the Thread with another awesome outfit. Linda’s unique personal style is such an inspiration! She is so creative, but she’s always true to herself, which is why her eccentric style seems so effortless. Today’s look was all about leather and mixing prints. Her full leopard skirt and star-studded moto jacket are edgy but at once feminine. I’m ready to spend a few hours bedazzling my moto jacket now!

Street Report: Daria Outside Alberta Ferretti

Mohair is one of my all-time favorite textures. Mix that super soft, retro sweater with a metallic full skirt and I am beyond sold! This is a look that I can easily see myself sporting all through fall. There’s so much fantastic texture, and the easy fits are immediately wearable. Daria’s oversize clutch and embroidered loafers add even more autumnal inspiration.

Street Report: Kat Outside Herve Leger

This jet-setting stylist, blogger (Lebrasse) and Aussie-by-way-of-Dubai is having no trouble dressing for this Fashion Week heat wave. Kat’s modern look is a great mix of menswear structure and feminine styling. I love her whimsical clutch and vibrant heels, which add a touch of fun to the ensemble. Her chic blazer vest has a surprise, too; it’s backless! Love, love, love!

Street Report: Zanna Outside Richard Chai

Getting the amazing Fashion Editor of Marie Claire to stop for a photo is no easy feat. Luckily, I caught Zanna Roberts-Rassi sneaking into a show after a quick coffee break. Red is one of my favorite colors, and this lace two-piece set is absolute perfection. I love how she’s dressed down the va-va-voom style of the set with simple lace-up oxfords and completely transformed the outfit. Thanks for the photo and the inspiration, Zanna!
