Liberty London’s Ed Burstell on British Heritage, Cool Collaborations and BFFs

This month we celebrate British heritage as Pop-In@Nordstrom welcomes Liberty London. To kick things off, here’s a look inside the brand.

When I asked Ed Burstell how he described Liberty London back in 2008, when he left the American fashion industry to work for what is perhaps the most British of all British department stores, he said he told people, “It was one of the last great emporiums of its kind left on Earth.” When I asked Burstell how he describes it now, after seven years as the shop’s managing director, his Brit-sharpened wit and American confidence cuts right through.

“I say it is one of the last great emporiums of its kind left on Earth.”

For the launch of this month’s Liberty London Pop-In, Burstell defined the historical context of Liberty’s grand marketplace status, and he outlined what he calls his “subversive” polish on this British institution.

Talking Personal Style with Vogue Turkey, Partying in the Streets with Acne at Centre Pompidou, & Caroline Issa’s #FW Instagram Best

Fashion Week Journal for Sunday, March 8

By the fourth week of what is really Fashion Month, the sheer number of shows attended by someone like Konca Aykan, the super-chic stylist and Vogue Turkey Fashion Director, is sort of staggering. So asking her over a laid-back Saturday lunch which ones have stood out—well, it’s not really a trick question, but it’s also not an easy one.

Street Style: Erika at Fendi

Erika is so good at playing with proportion—I love her unique sense of layering and balance. Mixing a sheer skirt and slim trouser of the same print is such a cool idea, and one that I’m putting on my ‘must try’ list. A thick ribbed jumper adds even more interesting texture and lines to the look.

Street Report: Très Cool Outside Acne Studios

These two look très cool and perfectly minimal. They’re hitting so many trends right on the money: sweatshirts, baby blue, tall boots, loose shorts. I am dying for cooler temperatures so I can break out all my turtleneck sweaters and oversized sweatshirts. The luminous Parisian sun, along with tortoise sunnies and chic bags, is the perfect complement.

Paris Fashion Week: September 27

Highlights from yesterday’s shows, including art-meets-fashion at Junya Watanabe, the new It shoes from Acne and Jean Paul Gaultier’s ready-to-wear dénouement.

Junya Watanabe Spring 2015

There’s never a dull moment at a Junya Watanabe show. His cubist-inspired runway collection for spring may seem a little wacky at first glance, but if you look beyond the fantastical styling pieces, you’ll find cute striped tops, pleated skirts and other closet pleasers.

Street Report: Crystal’s Back in NYC

Our global trend reporter, Crystal Nicodemus, made a recent trip to New York City to track the inspiring styles she saw on the streets and at the music festival scene. Check out the first of her snaps, and check back soon for more to come!

Having a twin sister must be awesome, what with the whole extra closet to pull from! Junia and Tatya agree, but they also said it’s not always smooth sailing. These stunning sisters have mastered the art of casual-chic summer wear.

Tatya’s shredded cutoffs and thick-soled boots add a little edge to her look, while her bold lip and sleek coif add some sophistication. Junia’s downtown preppy style is a personal fave, thanks to her sleek blazer and classic aviators.

Crystal
