As Fashion Week touched down in cities around the globe, we saw everything—and that’s everything—from rainbow confetti nails at Maryam Nassir Zadeh to spare eyes (and heads) at Gucci, in terms of beauty. Eager to try the bold, sometimes bizarre, looks created by the industry’s top artists, we’ve rounded up tools and tricks of the trade to re-create our favorite faces from New York, London, Milan and Paris, all created using beauty’s backstage superbrand MAC Cosmetics.

Five Top Oscar Looks from Our Hollywood Reporters

Topanga, CA: W magazine calls it hippie chic, CNN calls it Malibu’s hippie cousin, but we refer to the Nordstrom just north and west of Santa Monica as Hollywood’s best dressed secret—especially considering personal stylist Carly Nagel. From her post in the canyon, Carly gets to know the cast and crew who really make the movie magic happen. From set designers and makeup artists to supporting characters, producers, and partners and BFFs of big names, her clients are real girls in a really extravagent world, so when we want to daydream about Oscar outfits and red carpet looks, we go straight to her.

“It’s our favorite time of year, the Super Bowl of fashion!” Carly told us. She’s careful to admit that she doesn’t dress the stars—we all know they have their own stylists who do that—but, she says, “The common denominator of all involved is that everyone wants to feel glamorous and comfortable at the same time.”

We had Carly and her Topanga store cohorts select their five favorite looks from the floor—fitted out with killer heels and hot handbags. The dresses themselves, like the show-stopping red Monique Lhuillier pictured here, aren’t available online, so if you’re actually clutching an invite (lucky you!) or otherwise searching for a perfect party look, please call Carly and company at 818-884-7900, or visit our Designer Eveningwear offerings to see what’s available online.

Otherwise, feel free to join in this spectator sport with us.

New York Fashion Week Last Looks: Yesterday’s Runways at Rosie Assoulin, Zero + Maria Cornejo, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Carolina Herrera

Debuting her first collection only a couple years back, industry newbie Rosie Assoulin has been carving out her niche and gaining steady momentum with her whimsically far-out designs.

Granted, she got her start under Oscar de la Renta and Alber Elbaz and, with an arsenal of eye-catching design tricks from those two, Assoulin’s ascent beyond emerging designer is hardly surprising. The American created a fall collection of well-balanced, crisply tailored suits, a sea of super-wide-leg trousers and matching jackets (whether it be an army green tiered crop or fuzzy cream trench). Single-shouldered, bell-sleeved wrap tops and layered, diamond-shaped velvet halters introduced the transition to more innovative silhouettes. Larger-than-life ruffles were the standout among the eveningwear pieces, tiered and paired with one-shoulder fisherman knits and cropped capes.

Video: Carolina Herrera and Jeffrey Kalinsky’s Polka Dot Party

It’s official! Iconic American designer Carolina Herrera collaborated with Nordstrom VP Fashion Director Jeffrey Kalinsky on a collection as fun as it is fancy—fit for four seasons of soirees, Saturday night dates and Sunday brunches. In a WWD article for subscribers only, Herrera—who’s known for the kinds of dreamy dresses and gala gowns that put celebs on best-dressed lists (see below, from last year’s New York Fashion Week)said the collection was designed to be chic and striking, with silhouette options in silk faille for women to make the look their own.

I have always loved a polka dot motif; it was in my very first collection,” Herrera recalled. For his part, Kalinsky said he’d been wanting to team up with the venerated designer for a while, and so one day he simply picked up the phone and made it happen. You can walk into Jeffrey New York when the collection is released on February 8 and make it happen, too.

UNTIL THEN, THERE’S THIS ADORABLE VIDEO

Carolina Herrera envisioned spring fashion through rose-colored glasses, with a dreamy yet intricately constructed collection. The Frick Museum was the perfect Beaux-Arts backdrop for Herrera’s urbane mix of soft colors and structured, gridlike surfaces held together by sheer strips of fabric. The end result: minimal, elegant looks befitting modern uptown girls.

Carolina Herrera is available in selected stores at our Designer Eveningwear boutiques.

Three Images & Three Sentences from Carolina Herrera, Paul Andrew, Alice + Olivia, Maria Cornejo, Veronica Beard … and! Our Favorite FW DJs

Fashion Week Journal for Monday, February 16

Monday looks a little different at New York Fashion Week—especially so in freezing temperatures and amid the combo Valentine’s Day/Presidents’ Day long/short weekend.

As we filed into the grandest tent in all of Lincoln Center to see one of the most beloved American eveningwear designers, we sensed everyone had a bit of an adrenaline hangover. Bill, Anna, Grace, Edward, Stefano, et al—and us, too, so we decided to put some framework around today’s post. After all, three is the magic number. Here we go: a trio of sentences and images from all five shows we saw yesterday.

Street Report: Natasha Outside Carolina Herrera

Wowza! Natasha practically burned Lincoln Center to the ground with this sizzling look. Her little black dress is full of personality and encompasses some of the season’s top themes: fringe, metallic, and cut-outs. I love how sleek, cool and bold this dress is. By pairing this statement piece with minimal accessories and a clean beauty look, she strikes the perfect balance.

Street Report: Fer Outside Carolina Herrera

This look is so clean and well-proportioned. Fashion blogger Fer Medina (The Fashion State) says that she loves pieces with interesting design elements, like her amazing skirt. The bold stripe pattern and creative cut make a strong statement. I love that she brought in a little bit of pastel, too, rather than keeping her look all black and white. Those Valentino heels are the icing on the style cake!
