Fashion Bytes: Coach’s Glitter-Bombed Runway at New York Fashion Week

Photos by Indigital Images

Welcome to Fashion Bytes, a cheat sheet for your favorite runway designers. From style inspirations to behind-the-scenes scoops, here’s everything worth knowing at New York Fashion Week Spring 2018.

The brand: COACH

The history: When the family-run workshop that would be Coach began in 1941, it employed six skilled artisans to make wallets and luggage by hand from fine leather. The products were a modest success, but the company really took off in the 1950s, when founder Miles Cahn realized the soft, strong, dark leather used for baseball gloves was ideal for making accessories. His wife, Lillian, suggested they try women’s handbags and—boom!—an empire of classic American style was born.

The designer: Brit Stuart Vevers worked at Louis Vuitton and Givenchy before creating Mulberry‘s ultra-cool aura with muses like Alexa Chung and Lana Del Rey. He joined Coach in 2013, and swiftly snagged Selena Gomez as his newest collaborator.

Street Report: Sydne Outside Trina Turk

I’m about to put Sydne Summer on the payroll, since I can’t stop taking her picture! She’s a favorite on our blog, and is a total sweetheart in real life.

Today’s look has a modern Audrey Hepburn quality. Her fitted dress is a great mix of sweet and sexy, and her accessories hit all the right notes. See you tomorrow, Sydne!

Street Report: Preetma Outside Osklen

Preetma is an inspiration. Not only does she always look flawless, but she has a very unique and individual sense of style–one that is not based solely on designer duds.

A lawyer-turned-fashion darling, Preetma has a great personal style blog (The Working Girl, Esq.) and is always a pleasure to catch up with. She is also a returning style star to our blog; I’m sure we’ll see her next season, too!

Street Report: Nell Outside Reem Acra

Nell’s sartorial know-how is far beyond her years. I was surprised to hear that she is an English Lit student and only at Fashion Week for a little study break. Her sleek separates and bold pops of color are eye catching and just a little bit edgy.

For fall, Nell says that she’s looking for structured shoulders, leather and lace. I don’t remember college looking so chic!
