Last Looks: Yesterday’s Runways at Mugler, Haider Ackermann, Junya Watanabe and Elie Saab

Mugler’s David Koma focused on transitions Saturday in Paris, combining moody and wintery tones with a sunset backdrop and a sandy ochre catwalk for a trans-seasonal collection.

Koma balanced contrast, opening the show with tough-girl leathers crafted into corseted gladiator skirts and minidresses, with the heavy use of embossed patent croc as texture on otherwise simple designs—think oversized statement lapels on a boxy jacket, a waist-cinching bodice on an LBD or cut into panels and layered on top of red jersey skirts and off-the-shoulder minidresses. And just like that, the leathers were replaced by satin ivory frocks with asymmetrical hemlines, sporty angular cutouts and color blocking to balance out the hardness.

Five Top Oscar Looks from Our Hollywood Reporters

Topanga, CA: W magazine calls it hippie chic, CNN calls it Malibu’s hippie cousin, but we refer to the Nordstrom just north and west of Santa Monica as Hollywood’s best dressed secret—especially considering personal stylist Carly Nagel. From her post in the canyon, Carly gets to know the cast and crew who really make the movie magic happen. From set designers and makeup artists to supporting characters, producers, and partners and BFFs of big names, her clients are real girls in a really extravagent world, so when we want to daydream about Oscar outfits and red carpet looks, we go straight to her.

“It’s our favorite time of year, the Super Bowl of fashion!” Carly told us. She’s careful to admit that she doesn’t dress the stars—we all know they have their own stylists who do that—but, she says, “The common denominator of all involved is that everyone wants to feel glamorous and comfortable at the same time.”

We had Carly and her Topanga store cohorts select their five favorite looks from the floor—fitted out with killer heels and hot handbags. The dresses themselves, like the show-stopping red Monique Lhuillier pictured here, aren’t available online, so if you’re actually clutching an invite (lucky you!) or otherwise searching for a perfect party look, please call Carly and company at 818-884-7900, or visit our Designer Eveningwear offerings to see what’s available online.

Otherwise, feel free to join in this spectator sport with us.

Last Looks: Nina Ricci, Elie Saab and Junya Watanabe

Guillaume Henry’s moody and futuristic spring brought a new edge to every French femme’s favorite fashion house, with touches of goth and an overhaul of gloss to add to the distinctly ’90s undertone at Nina Ricci.Nina-Ricci-spring-2016-paris-fashion-week

Lacquer covered almost everything at the Nina Ricci spring show, from vampy lips that matched the glossy oxblood runway to the majority of the leather looks. Feminine takes on masculine cuts like stiffly structured jackets, silk palazzo pants with cargo touches and over-the-hand sleeves hit the dimly lit runway. More typically girly pieces were mini dresses with poufs of ostrich feathers and micro-pleated shifts that stood out as the collection’s most understandable elements. Coat dresses made an appearance, their mannish silhouettes broken up with deep V necklines, while simple silk blouses were accented with sheer apron-inspired overlays.

Denim is obviously a must-have, especially with raw edges and a high waist. Peju’s pair has a retro edge that adds an interesting contrast to her sleek white jacket. Red patent low heels add some sweet color to the look.

Haute Couture Shows in Paris

We’re digging the glimpses at T Magazine into the haute couture shows that went down in Paris earlier this month. Here are a few of our favorite shots:

Love the surprisingly chic net headwrap on this model, photographed backstage at Jean Paul Gaultier.

Can’t decide what’s cooler: the amazing beadwork on this Elie Saab dress, or the perfectly coiled braid atop the model’s head (okay, the dress).

Speaking of intricate beadwork, this Versace number achieves the rare balance of beachy-meets-red-carpet. How do you do it, Donatella? We’re in awe.

Check out more coverage at the T Magazine blog!
