New York Fashion Week: Herve Leger Does Rock and Roll

It was just the other day that we were up in the Herve Leger offices talking to creative director Lubov Azria about how to wear the current season when she mentioned that movement is one of her big passions, and there it was on the runway on Saturday: unfinished tweed fringe—flying and dancing wildly on the runway to an electroclash soundtrack.

And while we didn’t talk about grunge plaids, patchworked suede, safety pins and platform boots with her, it was clear that the entire realm of iconoclastic rock girls has been on her mind. The collection hit on all the best bad-girl elements from past decades while remaining remarkably true to its strong and affecting roots.

Herve Leger’s Lubov Azria Tells Us How to Wear the Spring Collection

Herve Leger will show their fall collection on Saturday, but yesterday we managed to get 15 minutes with the iconic woman behind the bandage dress, Lubov Azria, to tell us about how she’s wearing the current collection.

These are the dresses that are coming into our stores and online now, and these are the dresses that are going to show up come Saturday, because as we pointed out in our runway report last season, an Herve Leger show is full of Herve Leger dresses.

Gifted Giver: Lubov Azria, Chief Creative Officer of Herve Leger and BCBGMAXAZRIA

For the second season in a row, we’re counting down the crucial pre-Christmas shopping days with a series called Gifted Givers, in which friends old and new share their thoughts on stylishly spirited giving and receiving.

Lubov Azria, CCO of BCBG Max Azria and Herve Leger

Understandably, the designer, wife, mother of five and chief creative officer Lubov Azria is busy every time of year. Aiding the vision of multiple fashion houses (BCBGMAXAZRIA and Herve Leger), running the Bon Chic Blog and managing several impressively active social-media accounts while preparing a bustling household for the holiday is an extraordinary charge. But, as with every opportunity, Azria approaches it with elegance. (On that note, have you seen her outfits of the day on Facebook?)

So, can you blame us for asking Azria for a few tips on graceful giving?

Fornasetti 'Flora' large candleWhat’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

I think the gift of experience is the best gift I have ever received. My best friends once gave me ten things that they knew were on my bucket list. I will always cherish that.

What is “the perfect gift” anyway?

To me, the perfect gift is something versatile, something they can wear and use all the time. I like to really sit down and ask myself, “What do they love? What do they need?” When you pick out a gift based on your knowledge of the person, it makes it all the more special.

What’s your go-to host or hostess gift, either for a party or for a weekend or extended stay?

I typically do the hosting, especially around the holidays, but my go-to gift would be a nice candle. For a holiday party, maybe a bottle of champagne or a dessert. You can never have too many desserts.

New York Fashion Week S/S 2016: Herve Leger Celebrates 30 Years

Yesterday’s spring ’16 Herve Leger show marked the brand’s 30th anniversary, and as if to celebrate the legacy of Max and Lubov Azria, just about every other woman on West 33rd Street was wearing one of their signature body-con skirts or dresses.

Even more striking was the celebration on the runway, in which the strong presence of perforated, embellished, creamy white silhouettes expressed the heritage of the bandage dress, while jumpsuits and handkerchief-hem dresses over pants pushed off into new directions.

Street Style: Denni at Marni

Denni Elias blog (Chicmuse) is aptly named, as she consistently inspires me to expand my style horizons. There’s a little superhero vibe to her look today that I am totally digging. There’s so much fun texture and pop prints, but it still feels refined in a youthful way. Those d’Orsay stilettos, however, are the scene-stealer for me. But, then again, I’m a shoe girl and can’t say no to a cool design.

Street Style: Martha Graeff at Herve Leger

Martha Graeff (Around in Style) is insanely beautiful and stylish. She causes a photog frenzy wherever she goes during NYFW. I can always count on this Brazilian babe for a dramatic look.

Today’s outfit is perfect for New York; it’s got leather, fur, thigh-high boots and a black-and-white palette. Martha’s balanced her sexy boots and fringed skirt with a chunky knit jumper, creating a dynamic, modern city look.

Introducing Meet the Model, Moncler in a Love Blizzard, Our Isa Arfen Moments and Herve Leger Celebrates 30 Years of Red Carpet Babes

Fashion Week Journal for Saturday February 14

Yesterday, in a brilliant bit of art imitating life, Moncler showed their Fall ’15 coats in a cinematic, Valentine’s Day-in-a-blizzard non-runway presentation. A giant neon heart all but took over the room (and another provided a good photo backdrop, which we put to good use with Natalie Joos) and mechanical risers emerged from the stage to literally elevate next year’s coziest looks.

Street Report: Liz Outside Herve Leger

From afar, this outfit is fairly simple—but as you delve deeper there’s a lot happening on Liz (Style Summary)! Her muted plaid is a perfect hint of the season to come, while the sleek shorts and stiletto sandals keep things firmly in the now.

Of course, I have to mention the feathered hem of her crop top, which is a totally unexpected (and fun!) flourish. Hard-case bags are a big new theme at Fashion Week, and Liz’s geometric clutch adds some shine to her playful look.

Street Report: Kat Outside Herve Leger

This jet-setting stylist, blogger (Lebrasse) and Aussie-by-way-of-Dubai is having no trouble dressing for this Fashion Week heat wave. Kat’s modern look is a great mix of menswear structure and feminine styling. I love her whimsical clutch and vibrant heels, which add a touch of fun to the ensemble. Her chic blazer vest has a surprise, too; it’s backless! Love, love, love!
