New York Fashion Week S/S 2016: Backstage with Jason Wu and All Models

Jason Wu shows at 11am on Day 2 of New York Fashion Week. If you’re a model of the moment—a best of the best—that means you’re due in the makeup chair at about 8am. Not horrible or anything, but in the event that Marc Jacobs hosted the party of the decade the night before, well, it might seem rough. Not to worry, though: these young women are professionals first and foremost, and all was in order on Friday morning as a crew of beauties and those charged with taking great care of them readied for Wu’s spring presentation.

And in this instance, “readied” meant, in large part, the application of a gorgeous, deep red lip. Here’s your look at the top models in the industry right now—and Mr. Wu himself—counting down the moments to the big reveal.

Street Style: Tamara at Julien Macdonald

Tamara (Glam and Glitter) is a regular on The Thread, thanks to her trendy, feminine style. She’s just one of those girls who looks amazing in anything. This biker-chic ensemble fits right in at London Fashion Week. The moto jacket is still everywhere, and graphic jumpers are kitschy cute. Her blue palette works well against the grey skies we’ve been having. Tamara is stylish and a total sweetheart: the best of both worlds!

Street Style: Caroline Issa at Jason Wu

I’m convinced there is no one more sublime than Caroline Issa. She has the most impeccable taste and is one of my all-time favorite style icons. I can’t wait to try all the pieces from her collaboration line with Nordstrom, in hopes that some of her chic will rub off on me!

I would wear today’s outfit in a heartbeat. Monochromatic white is still a major theme and Caroline’s baby-blue oversized wool coat is a subtle statement piece. I could go on and on in my adoration of Ms. Issa, but it’s only day 2 and we’ve got a month of style stalking to go!

Street Style: Ella at Jason Wu

Ella Catliff is practically a fixture on The Thread, thanks to her retro-inspired, ladylike style. I love how much Ella embraces color. In a sea of neutrals, this English blogger shines. Her neon coat is textural and bold, and her patterned dress is a cute, youthful pairing. Hot pink accessories enhance the statement color story even more.

Street Style: Camille at Jason Wu

The lovely Camille Charrière is a recurring favorite on The Thread and I am a total fangirl for this French blogger. Camille has eclectic taste, but can pull off any look. She also is fun and laid-back and doesn’t let the chaos of Fashion Week affect her.

I absolutely adore the ’70s revival themes that have been popping up this season and Camille’s look fits the trend nicely. Her belted shawl is the centerpiece to her otherwise casual look. I can’t wait to ditch my winter boots for cute pointed flats, too!

Street Style: Kristina Bazan at Jason Wu

Blogger superstar Kristina Bazan (KAYTURE) is a trend chameleon. She can wear any style and still look totally authentic. Today’s normcore luxe look is oh-so-New York. Her oversize fits and cozy fabrics are perfect for a chilly winter day. Camel coats are trending strongly, and this relaxed style is versatile while being a modern classic. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Kristina has up her sleeve!

Jason Wu is All About Glamour, the Sartorialist’s Cover Girl is the Ultimate Tomboy, the Top Five Things at Suno, and How We’re Singlehandedly Keeping Backstage Boredom at Bay

Fashion Week Journal for Friday February 13

The first thing you learn about the fashion industry is that “hurry up and wait” is no joke. No one is even pretending to be punctual when it comes to showtimes, and let’s not even talk about models. Those girls. Their job is all about patience. Hair. Pause. Makeup. Pause. Walk-through. Pause. Pause. Pause. Repeat.

And so yesterday, during an epic couple of hours backstage before the Jason Wu show, we invented Blank Book. It’s a lot like Mad Libs, only, well, different. We’ll include one or two of these a day from here on out.
