Don’t call Emily Schuman a mommy blogger. Before giving birth to her adorable little one, daughter Sloan, she already had an established online following for her lifestyle and fashion blog, cupcakes and cashmere. Her online musings were so popular that she went on to launch a successful—and lovely—clothing line and pen several books about entertaining, decorating and living with style.
So we couldn’t think of a better lady to talk to about how to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Do you have plans for Mother’s Day this year? What are they?
It’s only my second Mother’s Day as a mom, so to say that this is our tradition sounds a bit early, but it’s what we’ve done two years in a row. We go for a walk together and out for breakfast. We then spend the day as a family, and I treat myself to something on my own in the afternoon—like a mani/pedi or a massage.
Do you remember something really special you gave your mom on Mother’s Day?
As a kid, I remember always thinking that if I could just afford to buy her something, that would be what she really wanted. But the truth is, the gifts I made for her—whether it was a poem or a piece of art—were what meant the most.
What would be the best Mother’s Day gift your daughter could give you?
Something she made with me in mind. I can’t wait for her to be able to draw pictures that I can frame.
