Nordstrom Toronto: Model Ash Foo on Dressing Up in Her Grandparents’ Things and Gluten-Free Waffles

To celebrate the opening of our new store at CF Toronto Eaton Centre—it opens today!—we’ve been talking to some of the city’s model residents while photographing them on the streets—and sometimes rooftops—of their stunning metro.

Model Ash Foo

Model Ash Foo has walked in her share of Fashion Week runways (Naeem Khan, Vivienne Westwood, Lela Rose, Milly and more) and appeared in a number of international Vogue issues. But she’s most at home in Toronto, where her family resides. We caught up with the model behind the scenes of our shoot to celebrate the new Toronto store. She told us about her most-prized fashion possessions and the waffles she’s craving now in her hometown.

Nordstrom Toronto: Model Natasha Ramkay on Toronto’s Best Eats

To celebrate the opening of our new store at CF Toronto Eaton Centre (September 16), we’ve been talking to some of the city’s model residents while photographing them on the streets—and sometimes rooftops—of their stunning metro.

Occasionally, it’s not too difficult to pinpoint someone’s passion. With model Natasha Ramkay, her love of healthy and delicious eats surfaces as fast as you can make instant oatmeal. So it took us just about as long to hit her up for some of her hometown’s best meals and treats.

Nordstrom Toronto: Model Kirsten Owen on Toronto’s Hot Spots & Her Daughter’s Outfits

To celebrate the opening of our new store at Toronto Eaton Centre (September 16), we’ve been talking to some of the city’s model residents while photographing them on the streets—and sometimes rooftops—of their stunning metro.

Behind the scenes of our Toronto store opening shoot with model Kirsten Owen

With her sharp features, porcelain skin and direct stare, Kirsten Owen was a favorite face for many minimalist and avant-garde designers in the ’90s. She helmed Jil Sander’s campaign in 1990, looking like a severe Greta Garbo. She strolled the runway with her baby bump cradled in a creation by Yohji Yamamoto in ’92. Encircled by barbed wire, she walked in a young Alexander McQueen’s show in ’96. And, after several years away from the industry, she closed KENZO’s 2006 show and was the face of Givenchy’s 2008 campaign. Her classic good looks and mutability have made her a model to span generations.

We caught up with her behind the scenes of our Toronto shoot to learn about her favorite haunts in the city and what she’s wearing now.

In less than 24 hours, the doors to Nordstrom Pacific Centre in downtown Vancouver will open to the public. Last night, however, attendees of a tented fall fashion show at the Vancouver Art Gallery—just across the street from the new store—also enjoyed a festive preview of the new location during an in-store gala.

The sold-out event raised $420,000 for local organizations BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre Foundation, Covenant House Vancouver and the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Guests included supermodels Coco Rocha, Karolina Kurkova and Amber Valletta; actresses Camilla Belle and Diana Bang; Inventory Editor-in-Chief Ryan Willms; Vogue Editor-at-Large Hamish Bowles; Vogue West Coast Director Lisa Love; Nordstrom Director of Creative Projects Olivia Kim and fourth-generation Nordstrom family members and co-presidents Blake Nordstrom, Pete Nordstrom and Erik Nordstrom, and President of Full-Line Stores, Jamie Nordstrom.

Tommy Ton Talks Dream Locations and Ottawa Style

We do love a good Tommy Ton collaboration around here. And really, who wouldn’t? The Ottawa native all but invented the genre of street style photography with his original (now defunct) fashion blog, Jak & Jil, so of course he was our first choice to photograph the flavor of our new stylish neighbors. That’s right: the brand new Nordstrom Ottawa is coming soon.

Check out our Ton-lensed style profiles, and get inside this iconic documentarian’s style history here.

Calgary Stampede Style Roundup

With the opening of our first Canadian Nordstrom store just a couple of months away, we’re gearing up and getting excited about our new northern location by learning about Calgary and the things that makes it so cool—like The Calgary Stampede.

This annual, internationally known event is over 100 years old and features 10 days of happenings: from concerts and parades to chuckwagon racing (!) and one of the biggest rodeos in the world.

It’s also the perfect backdrop for some awesome pics from our seriously stylish Calgarian photographer friends, Ania and Tyler.

We adore Ania’s combo of a sheer blouse with denim cutoffs for a look that’s casual and sexy.

Salt Lake City Nordstrom: A Bright Idea

The future’s looking bright at our newest store—Nordstrom City Creek Center in Salt Lake City—and it’s powered by you. For a limited time, in celebration of the Grand Opening March 22, our two-story LED wall will respond to your tweets.

Is your mood colored purple? Carmine? Sea foam? Thanks to our Interactive Development and Visual Teams, our Java-programmed LED wall at City Creek Center can display a staggering spectrum of shades. To watch the wizardry at work, just tweet our hashtag #newnordstrom and whatever color strikes your fancy.

How does the magic happen? First, be sure to tweet just the hashtag and the color (see below for ours). Our LED wall programming searches Twitter for #newnordstrom, which will alert it to your color and then queue it up for display. When your color goes up, our wall will ‘at-reply’ your Twitter handle, so you won’t miss it. Amazing.

Your blog editors may not understand all the code, software and technical hocus-pocus, but we do know how excited we are to get our cameras out and snap a pic while accessorizing our favorite outfit with 2 stories of color. We’re off to try #newnordstrom cerulean!
